In John 20, Mary Magdalene mistakes the resurrected Jesus for a gardener. While she was literally wrong, she was profoundly right symbolically: Jesus is the "New Adam," the cultivator of a new creation.One of the deepest crises of our age is meaninglessness. We have more comfort and entertainment than any civilization in history, yet anxiety and despair are deepening because humans cannot survive without a "why". As believers in the risen Christ, we understand that "why" as our vocation—from the Latin vocare, meaning "to call". Vocation is not just a career; it is the way your life participates in the work of God in the world. We were not created merely to be consumers of the world, but to be cultivators of it. Resurrection healing doesn't mean having fewer burdens; it means being restored to a meaningful responsibility rooted in love.Support the show

The feeding of the 5,000 is the only miracle recorded in all four Gospels, making it uniquely significant in revealing Jesus' identity and character. When crowds interrupted Jesus' planned retreat, He welcomed them with compassion, teaching about God's kingdom and healing the sick. Faced with thousands of hungry people in a remote location, the disciples suggested sending them away, but Jesus commanded them to provide food instead. With only five loaves and two fish, Jesus gave thanks, broke the bread, and miraculously fed everyone until they were satisfied, with twelve baskets of leftovers remaining. This miracle reveals Jesus as the compassionate King who welcomes everyone and provides abundantly for those who come to Him.

We often think identity is something we earn—that if we achieve enough, we finally become someone. But the Gospel tells a different story. In Genesis, God named humanity as His image-bearers before they ever performed a single task. Identity isn't a project needing constructing; it's a gift to be received.However, the Fall buried that identity under layers of shame and performance. We've been hiding ever since, trying to build identities out of masks, achievements, and addictions. In John 21, we see Peter—the "Rock"—retreating to his old boat, returning to his old identity as a fisherman because he was convinced his failure in denying Christ had redefined him. But Jesus meets him at a charcoal fire, walks him through his three denials, and methodically replaces his shame with a restored purpose. The Gospel is the "Great Identity Exchange": Jesus took our false, performing selves to the cross and gave us His standing before the Father. Your true life is now "hidden with Christ"—tucked away in the safest place in the universe, where no failure or critic can touch it.Support the show

Many Christians struggle to receive God's miracles because they fear appearing selfish or believe their needs are too small for divine attention. Jesus' first miracle at the wedding in Cana reveals God's heart for meeting even non-critical needs with abundant provision. This miracle demonstrates that receiving God's blessings requires human cooperation through faith and obedience. When we provide the containers for God's work and act in faith, He responds with quality and quantity that exceeds our expectations. God wants to display His glory through practical, everyday miracles in our lives today.

This week, we find Jesus in a room full of terrified skeptics. To prove He isn't a ghost, a hallucination, or a metaphor, He does something profoundly ordinary: He eats a piece of broiled fish. By insisting on His "flesh and bones," Jesus confronts us with an objective reality that refuses to bend to our personal preferences.We live in a "Live Your Truth" culture that promises freedom but often delivers exhaustion. When we try to author our own reality and invent our own identity, we end up with no anchor—untethered and responsible for holding our own universe together. Joel reminded us that boundaries aren't cages but rather they are the architecture that allows for beauty. Like the banks of a river or the meter of a song, God's objective truth creates the Shalom (wholeness and order) we crave. The Resurrection is the most solid ground in the universe—a fact that allows us to stop performing and striving for identity and start receiving who we truly are in the eyes of the Creator.Support the show

Jesus' teaching about mountain-moving faith in Mark 11:22-26 isn't a magic formula for getting whatever we want. True faith means aligning our will with God's will, not treating Him like a cosmic genie. The context reveals that Jesus was addressing empty religion - looking good on the outside but lacking spiritual fruit. Our mountains aren't our personal problems but anything blocking God's kingdom from advancing in our lives. Forgiveness is essential because bitterness clogs our spiritual connection with God. When we step out in faith with clean hearts, aligning our prayers with God's will rather than demanding our own way, we position ourselves to experience His miraculous power.

The Resurrection is the "macro" event that flipped the world upside down—birthing concepts of human dignity, ending slave trades, and fueling civil rights movements. But behind every global shift is a "micro-encounter": an individual human heart meeting the risen Jesus. Whether it was "Little Bird" in the Rwandan genocide praying for his executioners or the disciple Thomas touching the wounds of Christ, an encounter with Jesus is something you simply cannot unsee. In John 20, we find the disciples trapped in a "Friday reality"—locked in a room by fear and trauma. Jesus enters their locked space and does three things that reorient their existence: He shows them His scars, He gives them His breath, and He identifies Himself as their Master. These aren't just historical details; they are the blueprint for our own transformation. When we encounter Jesus, our past is redeemed by His scars, our spirit is reborn by His breath, and our mission is defined by His Lordship.Support the show

God is still performing miracles today, but witnessing His power comes with great responsibility. Jesus warned cities that saw His miracles but remained unchanged, emphasizing that God expects genuine repentance and life transformation when He demonstrates His power. Miracles serve as both wonders that capture attention and signs that point to God's kingdom advancing over Satan's realm. We can create an environment for miracles through three key elements: sharing God's Word and our testimonies, maintaining consistent prayer and dependence on the Holy Spirit, and exercising faith not just for ourselves but for others around us. The ultimate purpose of miracles is to demonstrate Jesus' authority and bring people into His presence for salvation, healing, and forgiveness.

Former foreign minister Shlomo Ben-Ami invested substantial time and effort into shaping a two-state solution during his political career – and ultimately came to the conclusion that it was not viable. On the Haaretz Podcast, Ben-Ami cast a critical eye on the current push by French President Emmanuel Macron and a long list of countries including the U.K., Australia and Canada to recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly. He sees the move more as "a sign of despair" over the leaders' powerlessness to end the Gaza war rather than "a practical solution" that lacks a roadmap for turning the concept into reality. Calling the two-state formula on the table "utterly irrelevant," Ben-Ami expressed "surprise that statesmen such as Macron and the others were pulling it out of the attic of lost causes." In his conversation with host Allison Kaplan Sommer, Ben-Ami spoke on the podcast of the deterioration of the Gaza conflict from a "legitimate war of self-defense" one of "merciless, cruel vengeance." He also explained why "total victory" over Hamas remains impossible. Whatever the outcome in Gaza, he noted, the war will be framed as a success and "will remain in the collective memory of the Palestinian nation that they forced Israel into a war that lasted more than two years, that Hamas pulled the two-state solution out of oblivion, emptied Israeli prisons of Palestinian prisoners, blocked the Israel-Saudi normalization and Israel's dream of regional peace."
