Adele Renault's studio is an old converted Korean church in Los Angeles. It's a large, fascinating old building just down the road from some of the biggest gallery names in the world like Zwirner, but here, there is a quiet hum of the 10 freeway and a massive painting area that could almost be an old cinema in terms of scale. Here, the Belgian-born artist is far from the rural countryside she grew up in and now in the thick of the concrete landmass that is the sprawl of LA. And here, in these conditions, she is making paintings so precise and photorealistic, so airtight, that she is almost leaning into something abstract. They are stunning and a major moment for the artist as she is set to open her solo show, Things I Can't Unsee, at Good Mother Gallery. It's the perfect title to a show, and in particular, to the practice she has of documenting her travels via bicycle, running or in a car across LA. Made over the span of 12 months, through a tumultuous time in LA's history, the works are an ode to the city and the constant conversation between nature and cement. In this conversation on the Radio Juxtapoz podcast, presenting by The Unibrow, Renault talks to Evan Pricco about her growing from graffiti and street work into this new direction, from pigeons to now urban landscapes, how being afforded time is a gift every artist needs and how close to abstraction these works can get up close. Subscribe to the Radio Juxtapoz podcast on Spotify and on Apple Podcasts. The Unibrow's Radio Juxtapoz podcast is hosted by Juxtapoz editor, Evan Pricco. Episode 162 was recorded in Los Angeles in late April 2025. Studio photo by Pysa (@Pysainhiding)

In this episode, we delve into the manipulative tactic known as DARVO—Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender. Often employed by individuals to deflect blame and invert the roles in a conflict, DARVO can leave victims feeling confused and doubting their own experiences. We explore real-life examples, discuss its psychological impact, and provide insights on how to recognise and respond to this form of manipulation. Understanding DARVO is crucial in identifying and addressing abusive behaviours in various relationships. Are you codependent? If so, you may be suffering from codependency trauma. Once you see codependency traits, signs and symptoms showing up in your relationships, particularly codependent narcissist relationships, you can't unsee it. Codependency recovery relies on the ability to look within to make peace with our shame, low self-worth, and abandonment issues. If you are in a codependent relationship, you may have noticed that you seek approval, feel like a doormat, enable, fix, and fawn. The four f's of childhood trauma are fight, flight, freeze and fawn. Codependency is considered the fourth F, the fawning aspect of childhood trauma. To overcome codependency in relationships, first, you must identify your codependent traits. Then you must learn to embrace inner child recovery healing work. From there, if you have been exploited or manipulated or have suffered gaslighting abuse from a narcissist, you will also need to heal cognitive dissonance. Another key healing aspect of codependency recovery is learning to develop a mindful practice and to take seriously the need to reprogram the subconscious mind. The five pillars of codependency recovery include, inner child healing, codependency healing and recovery work, narcissistic abuse recovery, mindfulness training and retraining the brain at the neurological and subconscious levels. If you were betrayed in childhood by the adults you trusted, your self-esteem and boundaries can be so wounded, that you become “betrayal blind.” You can SEE you're getting SO much LESS than you need and deserve in a relationship, but because you can't face ending things, you UNSEE it. This is self-deception, and we are motivated to disbelieve what we see because the need for love is SO strong, and facing the truth, means the crumbs of love you're getting will be lost – and that feels impossible. So what can you do? in this video, I respond to a woman who is RIGHT on the verge of facing the truth about her boyfriend – but she's tempted to believe she's just being paranoid. Is she tripping? Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes of ordinary life?
On today's show we took calls from people who saw compromising picutes of their parents and we got a brand new Dumbass of the Day!
Note: These were originally aired as Episodes 358 and 359 of Bigfoot Society in 2023.Mark, a hunter and fisherman from eastern Texas, recounts a series of unsettling encounters with a mysterious creature near Lake Fork. He describes witnessing deer acting strangely, spotting a tall, black, fluidly moving figure he initially mistook for a hog, finding large tracks, and hearing strange whistles and noises. Mark's stories are enriched by his sketches and attempts at photographing the creature.Mark discovered a deer skeleton in a tree fork and witnessed potential Bigfoot interactions with local wildlife, raising the question of what truly inhabits the woods. Meanwhile, Dan from Reynolds County, Missouri, details a different kind of eerie experience. In the dense forests near Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, his family has heard blood-curdling screams, experienced rock throws, and consistently encountered tree knocks. Dan and his daughter recount multiple unnerving incidents, including trailing eerie sounds while hunting and experiencing silences broken by heavy footsteps. Both Mark and Dan's detailed recollections offer a fascinating glimpse into unexplained phenomena, raising questions about the mysterious creatures that may inhabit these remote regions.
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly,Rick and David are both back, so the happy regulars are all reunited. "Who touched whose Cubitus?" is the first question right off the bat, and hilarity ensues. Next up is a look at a WatchPro article regarding Rolex's exit from the Formula 1 stage. They pause for a moment to ponder a lovely and well-photographed visit to Louis Vuitton's Les Fabriques des Arts Workshop, discussing the positioning of the brand in the larger watch world. Then, they guys turn their attention to Mike Razak's recent column about how "small affordable brands are chipping away at the fortress of high-end brands." Next up is a discussion of new releases, including the Doxa SUB 200T Diamonds series. Everyone seems to be talking about the Jaguar rebrand, and ABTW is no exception. It is the focus of the first round of Hit, Miss, Maybe this week — don't miss it! They also go 'round about the new Audemars Piguet X KAWS Royal Oak Tourbillon Concept Tourbillon Companion Watch and the No-Date Steel Omega Seamaster. Meeting you, John, and Amanda has really changed our lives for the better. We are doing great things on our farm- I even planted tomatoes in our Dutch bucket system that we have in our greenhouse! I am so stoked to see how things grow and what we can harvest this fall. Your My 3 Things is something that I use daily in order to help me keep things running smoothly on the farm as I work from home. I finished the first year of my program in herbalism and nutrition and am about to start off my second year. It has been so amazing and I was inspired to do better for my family and community through listening to your podcast. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to learning more from you. Home Depot: A 2x4x8 is $3.65, same as last week. Aldi: There was very little milk; I hadn't been paying attention, but this time noticed that instead of three full racks of half and full gallons of actual milk plus a couple of varieties with nutritional content removed (2% and 1%), there were perhaps a couple of half-racks with gallons of whole milk and only a little of the fake stuff; few if any half-gallons. There was also only one rack of eggs. Staple prices were: bread (20 oz. white): $1.35; eggs: $2.42 (+); whole milk: $2.89; heavy cream: $5.39; OJ: $3.45; butter: $3.79; bacon: $3.99; potatoes: $4.49; sugar: $2.99; flour: $2.35; and 80% lean ground beef: $3.79. In the meat area, the coolers were full but not stuffed. Gas: A gallon of untainted regular gasoline remains at $3.599. Frugality Tip Our vision changes throughout our lives. Some of us need glasses, some of us need multiple glasses, or progressive lenses. Sometimes these cost a lot of money at eyeglass stores. Zenni optical is where I buy my glasses. Single prescription glasses start around $8. I have a pair of polarized prescription sunglasses that I paid $20 for and progressive lens glasses start at $38. So grab your prescription(s) and your Pupillary Distance (the distance in millimeters (mm) between the center of one pupil to the center of the other). And check out Zenni.com. they even have a try on feature. Happy saving y'all ~Margo Operation Independence Coffee Sales Are Through The Roof! Thanks Yall. Main topic of the Show: You Can't Unsee It A friend of mine posted some thoughts on the coming election. Her perspective was that if you live in a state where 70% or more of the votes will go D or R no matter who is running, there is no reason to vote “against” the dominant party mathematically if you like neither candidate. She's right. And therein lies the rub really: the word lead. And in those processed lie the true power and control - less so the people “overseeing them”. The funny part is there are different reactions to seeing it: Denial Angler Negotiation Mourning And then there is our friend acceptance. But the fight changes after you see it because you know a few things. Realistic impact (your role) Embarrassment is a better tool than force Mostly, it doesnt matter unless you can physically make a change because you get one step forward here – two steps backward there And that back and forth is the distraction. Make it a great week! GUYS! Don't forget about the cookbook, Cook With What You Have by Nicole Sauce and Mama Sauce. In 1999, a 70-year-old Andrew Sarris spoke for the majority of critics about the Joel Schumacher-directed 8MM, when he said it "...is clearly an evil film." Well, Mr. Sarris might have been a purveyor of auteur theory, but he's also a purveyor of being wrong. 25-years-later, in a deep conversation that dissects this misunderstood Nic Cage gem like never before, Jordan and Nic reassess 8mm and find themselves at great odds with the 1999 critical establishment. But then they watch the punishment film, The Other Sister, and find that some of the time, maybe those critics were right.Music Heard this Episode:"Unsee" -- Mychael Danna"Hollywood" -- Mychael Danna"Missing Persons" -- Mychael Danna"366 Hoyt Ave." -- Mychael Danna"Come to Daddy" -- Aphex Twin Intro music - "If" by Broke For FreeConnect with us!PatreonTwitterFacebookEmailLinktr.eeLetterboxd - Nic & JordanThe Nicsperiment

Vice President of Operations at Pillars Fund Kalia Abiade. Pillars Fund is dedicated to empowerment and support of Muslim voices. We know that Muslims have plenty of voices, but no one to hear them and no mainstream platform where they'll be taken seriously without having to first perform someone else's self-righteous qualifier. Kalia was in Palestine tracing her family history when October 7th happened. Her chilling experience to get home is still being written in her heart and mind, and we pray she can make sense of what happened there. As we all are since. Connect all resistance movements with Black America, press accountability, and how to talk to our kids about oppression are packed in here. In addition, as someone genetically endowed to lead social justice movements, Kalia shares the humanity of Palestine as well as the atrocities of occupation she witnessed before 10/7 to provide context of what that attack meant for all oppressed people. Her quiet wisdom is critical in considering our roles against all injustice, and to maintain humility while doing it. Links:Pillars Fund Website: https://pillarsfund.org/Support the show1.
