Send us a textMy guides have been lighting up my left ear, they've been littering my life with strings of 888s, 222s, 11111s and yes. I get the hint. This month we need to celebrate our souls and spirits which have endured a ROUGH year. We need to thank those that helped us stay sane, sneak in some moments of thriving, and maybe most important, helped us retain our humanity in this chaos. To everyone listening that was my lifeline, thank you.Found family can include anyone we choose to love, right? That for me includes the people in my life, the animals, the plants and rocks I encounter as I hike, and of course, the angels. I leaned on one to get me through a tough time, Ariel, and that was in the midst of that string of signs I mentioned off the top. What they want in return? The angels wanted a full month of spotlight, and they have more than earned it. I will be shining a light on an angel a week through Christmas. I'll also share about angels that helped humanity but were cast out of heaven. Sorry if you have Bruno Mars playing in your head now. :)This week I am sharing the history, legends, lore and my deep gratitude for the angel that helped my dog, Cooper, recover from a scare. This episode pulls together the long wars and the quiet missions that followed. It starts in Anbar and along the Syrian border, with Lioness teams at checkpoints, battalions fighting through al Qaim and Ramadi, and tribes turning against Al Qaeda. From there it tracks how Iraq shifted from brutal street fighting to fragile calm, only to see ISIS rise out of the same ground a few years later. The story widens to Afghanistan's hidden record in the Afghanistan Papers, then follows Marines into humanitarian work in Liberia, Haiti, the Indian Ocean, the Philippines, and Nepal, where ships become lifelines instead of launchpads. Libya, Benghazi, and the ISIS war show how quickly combat can return. The chapter closes on the future of the Corps, from Force Design debates to the simple ideas that have outlasted every reorganization. Gem Of the Day (G.O.D.) about how if we are not careful, we can be doing the works of the enemy
Jim and Matt kick off the show with British bantamweight Davey Grant, who joins live from the UFC Performance Institute as a brand-new Las Vegas resident. Fresh off rehabbing a torn bicep and injured nose, Davey talks about settling into life stateside, training his kids at Syndicate MMA, and why moving to America has changed the way he studies the sport — including watching fights live with a pen and paper to stay sharp on evolving MMA trends. The guys then unpack all the biggest storylines from UFC Qatar, where Matt takes a well-earned victory lap after going 2–0 in his picks — correctly calling Arman Tsarukyan's arm-triangle finish and Volkan Oezdemir's stoppage win.Later, women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko joins the show to discuss balancing her pursuit of all-time greatness with her creative “side quests,” from acting roles to drawing on her degree in film direction. With several options in front of her, Valentina reveals she's keeping a close eye on a potential trilogy with Amanda Nunes — especially now that the Lioness has expressed interest in meeting her again, this time at 125 pounds. Finally, in the wake of Ian Machado Garry's statement decision win, which capped off two straight weeks of top-flight welterweight action, Jim and Matt close the show by debating which 170-pound contender has earned the next shot at Islam Makhachev's welterweight title.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Jill Scott is England's second most capped player of all time. A Lioness legend, Euros winner and Queen of the Jungle, she is without a doubt one of the hardest working footballers that England has ever produced. What I love about Jill is her determination to succeed, even when the odds are stacked against her. Growing up in Sunderland, she was bullied by her classmates - and their parents - for playing football. But she kept showing up, every single day, training harder than anyone else and never once gave up on her dreams.Jill talks so openly about her vulnerabilities and the pressures she's felt during her career. To hear someone who's achieved so much, admit they've questioned themselves too… that's seriously powerful. We cover:Being bullied as a child and how football taught her resilienceHow Jill builds confidence when she's out of her comfort zoneThe mindset that made her one of England's most-capped playersTackling imposter syndrome, anxiety, and how training keeps her mentally strongWhat sport can teach you about teamwork and being a good personLove, family and her hopes of becoming a parent one dayJill is one of those people who reminds you that you don't have to be the loudest voice in the room to make an impact. You just need to show up, consistently, with heart. This conversation will make you laugh, think and hopefully encourage you to stay determined and keep chasing your dreams. These are the findings of a new study ‘Barriers to Equal Parenting' by the charity Working Families. Nuala McGovern is joined by Elliott Rae founder of Parenting Out Loud and Penny East, chief executive of the Fawcett Society.Tilda Swinton is one of the UK's most singular and celebrated performers. John was also featured in a BBC documentary back in 1989 called John's Not Mad. There is more recognition of the syndrome now, singers Lewis Capaldi and Billie Eilish have both openly talked about living with Tourette's and it's estimated over 300,000 children and adults in the UK have it. The key features are tics which cause people to make sudden, involuntary sounds and movements. On the release of her memoir, she joins Nuala to talk about her life and work.Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Simon Richardson
A major UK group litigation has been launched against Johnson & Johnson, involving approximately 3,000 claimants who allege they developed cancers due to asbestos-contaminated talc products. The company is accused of negligence and deceit. Johnson & Johnson deny the allegations. The BBC Health reporter, Chloe Hayward, joins Anita Rani to talk about what is known so far.Surrogacy and its impact is the subject of a new report by the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Alsalem. In 2023, the global surrogacy market was valued at nearly $15 billion and is projected to reach almost $100 billion in the next eight years. Here in the UK commercial surrogacy is illegal - surrogacy has to be altruistic, meaning only expenses are paid for and the motivation behind it is typically helping someone else. It is legal, however, to have a child in another country where the rules may differ. To discuss the ethics of the practice, Anita is joined by Reem Alsalem and Sarah Jones, CEO of Surrogacy UK.Karen Carney is one of the most capped female footballers for England. 主播:Flora(中国)+ Maelle(法国) 音乐:Comfortable今天我们要聊的内容可以说是跨越中西——最近在中外社交媒体上流行的两个热梗,居然都和“羊”相关!01. Chinese Trend of “I Am the Best Sheep” “我是最棒的小羊”这段时间,中国比较火的一个梗叫“我是最棒的小羊!”。只是听到这句话,就已经感觉可爱值爆表了(sounds adorable)!它的英文翻译是:“I am the best sheep in the world!”这句话出自国产动画片《喜羊羊与灰太狼》。主播Flora表示:“That was totally my childhood (童年回忆).” 主播Maelle也分享道:“I totally remember watching it as a kid in China with the famous phrase “我一定会回来的!” at the end of every episode.”Why is this phrase trending now?其实,这句话最初是许多刚刚进入大学或职场的年轻人(workforce),在面对新环境时用来给自己加油打气的话(cheer themselves up)。That is such a wholesome and sweet way to encourage yourself!Wholesome:在这里的意思是“积极向上、很正能量”。It is a great word to explain this trend. 当你说出“I am the best sheep in the world”时,传递的就是这种“wholesome”的感觉。02. Western Trend about Sheep 西方社交媒体中的“羊”最近在TikTok上也有一个很火的“trend”,也和“羊”有关。That's a trending sound and hashtag (话题标签): “The lioness does not concern herself with...”这句话出自美剧《权力的游戏》(Game of Thrones),原句是:“A lion doesn't concern himself with the opinions of sheep.” 这里“羊”就出现了,意思是“狮子不会在意羊群的看法”。Concern oneself with... 意思是“为……费心”。那么“doesn't concern himself with...”就是“不会为那些事费心”了。It really does take a strong mindset (真的需要强大的精神内核)!The idea is that if you're strong and confident - like a lion or lioness - you don't need to care about judgmental (评头论足的) or negative (负面的) people around you.在这里“sheep”指的是“people who lack individuality (缺乏个性) and just follow the crowd (随大流)”。Actually, in western internet culture, there's a word “Sheeple”.Sheeple = Sheep + People. It means people who just follow others blindly (盲目跟随别人) without thinking for themselves (没有自己的思考).所以当有人用了这个“quote”,意思就是:“I stand strong in who I am (我坚持做自己). I don't listen to the noise.” 03. What Are People Posting? TikTok上的网友都发了什么?现在这个梗在TikTok上很流行,大家会用“The lioness does not concern herself with...”这句话,再配上有“主角感”的音乐,来表达自己的态度。让我们来看看网友们的分享:1) 关于感情:“The lioness does not concern herself with walking away (离开) from a bad relationship.”“母狮并不会在乎放弃了一段糟糕的关系。”2) 关于网络评论:“The lioness does not concern herself with ignoring negative comments (忽视负面评论) online.”“母狮并不会在乎网上的负面评论。”3) 关于职场:“The lioness does not concern herself with standing up (勇敢地表达意见) at work.”“母狮并不会在乎在工作场合勇敢表达自己的想法。”This feels so empowering and confident (充满了力量与自信)!04. We Try It! # The lioness does not concern...主播Flora:“The lioness does not concern herself with staying home alone all weekend!”“母狮不会在乎独自在家过周末!”主播Flora表示:“每当我告诉别人我周末只是自己在家放松时(stay at home and relax by myself for the weekend), they say “I'm sorry (真为你感到遗憾)” as if it's a bad thing! I don't get it - cause they just don't realize how comfortable (舒服的) that could be.”主播Maelle:“The lioness does not concern herself with reading the instructions.”“母狮不会在乎阅读使用说明书。”主播Maelle表示:“I never read the instructions (从不读使用说明书) when I am building things. And I really should because I am not great at it.”主播Flora也分享道:“Every time I think I can figure things out (弄明白) without instructions, I end up regretting (后悔) it later.” 快来晒出你自己的“主角感”金句——用上“The lioness does not concern herself with...”或者分享自己的“最棒小羊”励志故事吧!

We have a Lioness in the studio! Today - we're joined by Eni Aluko. Eni is a broadcaster, football executive and former professional football player who has represented England on the world stage and at the Olympics. She's also a qualified lawyer - there's nothing this woman can't do. Since retiring from professional football - she has become one of the country's most recognisable football pundits. As a former international player, with a lifelong passion for football - Eni is more qualified than anyone for this role - however, the culture of racism and sexism around football has made it an toxic environment for her. We spoke to Eni about the reality of misogyny, racism in football, how she has dealt with the online abuse she is subjected to and how we can move forward to make football a better (or at least more tolerable environment for women) Follow @enialuko on InstagramThank you to Refuge - the UK's largest specialist domestic abuse organisation - for making this conversation happen. Andrew Lockington Interview - This week on Sync Music Matters I'm joined by Canadian composer Andrew Lockington whose music you may have heard recently on shows like Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness and Landman. All shows which were created and directed by Taylor Sheridan We delve into the score for Landman, Andrew's creative process and how a lot of the music was written before any footage has been shot. We also discuss the art of embracing imperfection and how the emotion behind the music is maybe more important than the music itself. Andrew also reveals why he thinks that only 50% of composing is actually about the music. Andrew Lockington is best-known for his epic scores to the Warner Bros. blockbusters San Andreas, Rampage and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, which together have surpassed over $1 billion in box office revenues. Recent and current credits include Netflix's epic sci-fi feature Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez and several projects with Taylor Sheridan including Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness and Landman. Andrew is always looking to push the boundaries of film scoring which has led him to recording in exotic locations like jungles of Papua New Guinea, ancient temples in Northern Japan, a volcano in Polynesia and an abandoned subway station beneath central London. Is nostalgia ever truly authentic—or just a clever rebrand? That's the question JB, Sandy, Trish, and returning guest Steven Presley explore in this fast-paced, pop culture-packed episode of The JB and Sandy Show. From the controversial Hank Hill Burger at Whataburger to the eerie timing of celebrity deaths, this episode dives deep into the quirks of modern media, Texas pride, and Hollywood's storytelling machine. Steven Presley, creator of Thunder Pop TV, brings his signature insight and humor to the table, breaking down the backlash over Whataburger's King of the Hill tie-in, the rise of Taylor Sheridan's TV empire, and the upcoming Dallas Cowboys documentary. Whether it's Pee Wee Herman's bike at the Alamo or the mystery of roadside jerky vendors, this episode is a wild ride through nostalgia, entertainment, and Texas eccentricity. Key Moments:
Maggie Thatcher in 1987 pulled off a trick that had eluded all other British Prime Ministers of the twentieth century: she won three general elections in a row. Even more, she won a second Commons landslide down from the 144 seats in 1983, but still massive at 102 seats. It was a remarkable feat, to set alongside her being the first woman Prime Minister of Britain, though she always preferred to present herself as the first scientist. With that huge majority, she seemed well placed to pursue her policy agenda to make Britain great again. But that's where she ran into problems. This week, we're going to talk about what the obstacles to her were in foreign affairs, before turning to the domestic ones next week. She had three main paths to choose between: she could go all in on the Atlantic Alliance with the US, banking on the special relationship; she could go with the Commonwealth, using that association of former imperial possessions to rebuild British global power; or she could throw the country's lot in with Europe, sacrificing some British sovereignty to the EEC, in return, as Harold Macmillan had written quarter of a century earlier, for sharing in the sovereignty the other nations had given up.The problem was, as experience would show, that the special relationship with the US had become deeply one-sided, with the US treating Britan as very much a junior partner (which, to be fair, it was). While her backers praised her for standing up against those in parliament who resented granting the US permission to fly bombing raids against Libya from British bases, calling her a lioness in a den of Daniels, those opponents regarded her as a poodle doing the bidding of the American president. As for the Commonwealth, this loose association of nations with no real structure for taking or acting on decisions, was never going to get Britain anywhere. And when it came to Europe, Thatcher grew increasingly sceptical about the EEC as time went on, resenting any granting of authority to it outside the purely economic area. That, sadly, left Thatcher with no real option for taking things forward. Majority or not, she was increasingly boxed in. Lioness or poodle, she found her way blocked in every direction.Illustration: 'You lead and I'll follow': Thatcher dancing with Reagan, a special relationship in which the US calls all the shots. Baroness Margaret Hodge tells Nuala McGovern why she thinks routine mammograms should be extended to women over 70. The former Labour MP was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 80. She requested a mammogram after realising she hadn't been invited to have one in nearly a decade. Routine screening is currently only available in the UK for women aged 50-70. As England's Lionesses prepare for their Euro 2025 semi-final with Italy tonight, their efforts have been overshadowed by the racial abuse suffered by defender Jess Carter. The team's decided not to take the knee against racism in tonight's game, with coach Sarina Wiegman saying her players feel the gesture isn't 'good enough.' Now the head of Sport England, Chris Boardman, has written to Ofcom to express "deep concern" over the abuse directed at England's women's football team on social media. He joins Nuala, along with former Lioness and now pundit Lianne Sanderson. Campaigners in Northern Ireland want the way Victim Personal Statements are dealt with in courts there to change. At the moment people do not have the automatic right to read their own statements as part of the judicial process. Nuala talks to Commissioner Designate for Victims of Crime Northern Ireland, Geraldine Hanna, and campaigner Julieanne Boyle, who didn't get the opportunity to address the court during her case and wants to see a change for other victims. Georgina Moore's second novel River of Stars is set in a floating community on the Thames. A romance and family saga spanning three generations of women, it was inspired by her own move from self-confessed ‘ageing party girl' to houseboat mum. Georgina joins Nuala in the Woman's Hour studio to talk about island life and writing on the water.Presenter: Nuala McGovern Producer: Sarah Jane Griffiths
Today we are joined by one of my favourite athletes, a true tennis champ, Danielle Collins. I love Danielle because she is such a fierce competitor and so real and I think you are going to be so inspired by her honesty in this episode. Fresh from Wimbledon, Danielle takes us back to her improbable journey to the top of tennis from not even being able to keep score in her first tournament as a kid and playing against 50 year old men as a ten year old to becoming a top ten player in the world, a grand slam runner up at the Australian Open, and going on a career changing 15 match winning streak last year. That streak saw her win a huge tennis title, Miami Open and another Charleston back to back - a feat last achieved by Serena Williams. But some of Danielle's greatest challenges have come off the court as she talks about having to deal with sexism, inappaorpate behaviour from men, and playing tennis with endometriosis. I love Danielle's words on the life changing power of letting go of trying to be liked, so I hope this episode encourages you to walk into any room with a faith in your voice and confidence in yourself. If you love this chat as much as I do please reach out, as I love to chat. You can find me across socials @joshsmithhosts and if you want more inspiring conversations with incredible sporting stars from Wimbledon Champion Elena Rybakina to Lioness legends Jill Scott and Lucy Bronze check out our podcast back catalogue. Their tennis and racket sport collection is full of performance ready styles which allow for maximum flexibility and power on the court.
