'Twas the night before Playoff, when all through the nation, The fans were all gathered in wild expectation. The brackets were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that a trophy soon would be there. The Sooners were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of Venables' blitzes filled heads. At eight on a Friday, the lights will shine bright, As Alabama comes knocking to settle a fight. A rematch of Week 12! The Tide seeks to fly, But Ty Simpson sees blitzers wherever he'll spy. The winner gets Indiana in the Rose Bowl's sweet glow, But the Tide's rushing game is still painfully slow. With Mateer at the helm and his hand feeling right, Oklahoma plans for a home-field delight. Then out on the Saturday, what should appear? The Aggies and Canes as the noon hour draws near. In College Station, where the 12th Man will roar, Malachi Toney looks to add to his score. He catches the screens, he's a YAC-machine king, But the Aggies' run defense is a vulnerable thing. Marcel Reed must be careful, he must keep it clean, For the Miami pass rush is exceptionally mean. The victor heads off to the Cotton Bowl's gate, Where the Ohio State Buckeyes in silence will wait. By half-past the three, in the land of the Rebs, The Tulane Green Wave tries to untangle the webs. Ole Miss has no Kiffin, he's gone to the Bayou, But Pete Golding's defense says, "We will defy you." Chambliss throws deep—it's a beautiful sight, Against a Wave secondary that's prone to a fright. Jamauri McClure brings a spark to the ground, But the Rebels' explosive plays simply abound. The Sugar Bowl beckons for the winner's next show, To face Georgia's Bulldogs, the toughest of foe. The nightcap arrives under Oregon skies, Where the Dukes of JMU hope for a prize. Alonza Barnett has a hot passing hand, But the Ducks are the giants that rule o'er the land. Dante Moore is a star, a first-round-pick dream, Leading the nation's most balanced of team. The Dukes defend edges with discipline and pride, But there's nowhere for underdogs truly to hide. The Red Raiders wait in the Orange Bowl sun, For the winner of this final first-round-play run. The coaches are leaving, the transfers are set, The highest of stakes that a program can get. I heard Max and Dalton exclaim ‘ere the flight: "Happy Playoff to all, and to all a good fight!"

The Philadelphia Eagles have had an up and down season. Fans have seen some very good football. Fans have seen some bad football. But the fact is that they're atop of the NFC East and likely heading to the playoffs. How has this team shown growth over this season? This week, O.J. Spivey from The Philadelphia Tribune joined the pod for an in-depth discussion about what we've seen from this Eagles team and where they may be going in the foreseeable future. A great discussion! But first, the guys dove into some of the good hockey that's being played by the Flyers this season as the team is currently at the No. 4 spot in the Metropolitan Division. (Approx. 6:00)From there, they got into a discussion about how this Union offseason is looking, which isn't great. With the Union giving up two key pieces and talents to other MLS teams, what is the strategy here? (Approx. 12:10)Then they talked about what has been happening in the world of college football with the Lane Kiffin situation, Notre Dame refusing a bowl appearance, and intriguing aspects of the College Football Playoff. (Approx. 21:30)The guys they dove into some NFL talk as certain teams have been eliminated from making it to the playoffs. We're saying goodbye this season to some teams that are surprising. (Approx. 34:00)What they threw down on the Table this week was a great and in-depth conversation with O.J. Spivey from The Philadelphia Tribute about what we've seen from his Eagles team this season, how they've grown, and who needs to step up towards the latter part of this regular season. They discussed the criticism of Jalen Hurts, and who may be an under-the-radar player on this team for us to keep our eyes on over these next few games. The ACC announces a nine-game conference schedule that doesn't even apply to all of its teams, creating uneven standings, future tiebreaker chaos, and more questions than answers. Gary breaks down why the league's decision makes no logical sense, how Notre Dame scheduling complicates everything, and why this move could make conference races even messier. The discussion then shifts to Georgia Tech roster fallout as quarterback Aaron Philo enters the transfer portal, staff members follow Buster Faulkner to Florida, and the realities of portal tampering continue to expose how little enforcement actually exists. The episode wraps with Lane Kiffin once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons — from late-night texts to beat writers to bizarre public behavior that raises the question: does Kiffin actually want to be unlikable?

Ole Miss football general manager Billy Glasscock followed Lane Kiffin to LSU. The Rebels have interest in a reunion with Austin Thomas, among others. However, for the time being, they've had to make it work with the people actually in the building, including a shift in focus for Matt McLaughlin. McLaughlin serves as Ole Miss senior associate athletics director for strategy and cap management. He and Walker Jones, who heads up the Grove Collective, have taken up temporary offices at the Manning Center to lead the roster-building efforts in lieu of an interim general manager. Ole Miss signed 17 2026 recruits on Wednesday, the first of the Early Signing Period. Today's word of the day is ‘self righteous' as in Lane Kiffin as in Ole Miss as in LSU as in college football. What a Sunday in the SEC. We saw six schools make decisions. From Lane being run out of Mississippi to Louisiana, to Florida, to Auburn, to Kentucky, to Arkansas. Did Kiffin think he was going to be able to continue coaching Ole Miss this season? LSU still has to pay Brain Kelly. That divorce ends with Kelly collecting the full $53 million that he was due. (24:00) The ACC did this to themselves. There could be a chance that no ACC team makes the CFP. Is Miami going to be left out? (35:00) Review: Frankenstein. (37:30) NPPOD. (45:00) The Steelers have a problem. Aaron Rodgers is back to being that problem. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
On this episode of “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock discusses Lane Kiffin's decision to leave Ole Miss for the head coaching position at LSU and why Kiffin is similar to Shedeur Sanders in the way he flaunts his privilege. Whitlock also breaks down how Kiffin's fans treat him the same way they treat Deion Sanders, refusing to acknowledge that their idols can do wrong. Whitlock then breaks down his 10 NFL Truths, covering why Shedeur Sanders is such a terrible leader; how Bryce Young proves why you shouldn't pamper quarterbacks; why the reality of the last four years should not distort the greatness of Aaron Rodgers; and more. Steve Kim and T.J. Moe join the show to talk about why Shedeur Sanders fails to lead his team; Bryce Young's impressive performance in the Panthers' 31-28 win over the Rams; and Deion Sanders committing to turning the University of Colorado football team around. To hear more, visit www.splitzoneduo.comSUBSCRIBER EPISODE: Richard spent Sunday on his phone, gathering information on the day's many college football coach hirings and firings. This episode takes you through Richard's day of reporting. Alex joins him to discuss a bunch of moves: * Lane Kiffin heads to LSU, and Ole Miss replaces him swiftly with the internal succession option we talked about a few weeks ago: Pete Golding * The argument between Kiffin and Ole Miss at the end, Kiffin's efforts to own the narrative, and how much of this is his doing vs. the calendar's * Florida hires Jon Sumrall, who's technically a consolation prize but brings a lot more to the table than many Florida fans realize * Auburn, after weeks of pursuing Sumrall, winds up not with DJ Durkin but with Alex Golesh. But did Durkin play a role in how it shook out? * Arkansas gets Ryan Silverfield, angering Hogs fans but not Memphis fans* Michigan State fires Jonathan Smith and moves quickly to replace him with Pat Fitzgerald, in a sequence that looks like a set piece * Recapping some hires at Oklahoma State, Stanford, Colorado State, and Oregon State, while other jobs wait to be filled * Penn State's search is quieter than a whisper, but it's getting down to two options: Hire a coordinator, or take a big swing on a mystery man. If there's a mystery man, is he coaching a conference championship game? It's a great time to subscribe to Split Zone Duo Our coach carousel episodes, including this one, go behind the $10 monthly paywall for subscribers. If you're looking for a mix of reporting and longer-form discussions about the coach movements that shape the sport, we'd love to have you.
