Jared Stillman from Stillman & Company hops on the show for his weekly visit to talk all things Nashville sports, and he and Joe yell at each other about the NBA. We get more into the NBA and Joe gets mad at the text line. We found a funny CFB recruiting story involving the Vols, Kiffin, and Pruitt. We close out the hour with the Rex Rant.
The Ole Miss Rebels added a big-time defensive lineman by flipping Carmelow Reed from the Wisconsin Badgers. Plus, Lane Kiffin and his coaching staff are hot on the trail of multiple big-play wide receiver recruits. For the Rebels to finalize this recruiting class, having a College Football Playoff run will be vital. Beating teams like LSU and Georgia are part of the mission, and do not forget about Oklahoma in Norman; that is how Kiffin's crew keeps recruits interested through National Signing Day.On X @LO_ThePortalTikTok @lockedontheportalSupport us by supporting our sponsors!Monarch MoneyTake control of your finances with Monarch Money. HR1 - Ronald Acuña Jr.'s critical tweet of Brian Snitker won't cause rift in clubhouse In hour one Mike Johnson and Beau Morgan recap and react to the Atlanta Braves sweeping the Minnesota Twins over the weekend. The guys also react to Ronald Acuna Jr. taking to social media to criticize the way Braves Manager Brian Snitker handled Jarred Kelenic getting thrown out at second base after failing to hustle out of the batter's box on a long drive in the Atlanta Braves' 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night. The guys also talk about what Terry Fontenot and the Atlanta Falcons could do during this week's NFL Draft that would actually surprise Falcons fans. Mike and Beau continue hour one by recapping and reacting to the Atlanta Hawks losing their win or go home play-in tournament game against the Miami Heat 123-114 in overtime on Friday night, and give their thoughts on what went wrong for the Hawks. The guys close out hour one by letting you hear Ole Miss Head Football Coach Lane Kiffin take a little bit of a shot at former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck on the Pivot Podcast, reacting to what Kiffin had to say, and discussing whether or not Kiffin's comments were out of pocket.
"I didn't hit a rock bottom. I just got tired of digging…Tired of digging myself out of messes.” Lane Kiffin, Head Coach Ole Miss Football It's a football Friday episode with the fellas as Ryan, Channing and Fred chat with one of the most polarizing figures in college sports, Coach Lane Kiffin, who's sharp wit fans have come to expect, but this conversation reveals a side of him that few get to see, full of humility, gratitude and tremendous respect for the men who helped shape his career from Nick Saban to Pete Caroll to most important his father, the late Monte Kiffin. From once being the NFL's youngest head coach at just 31, to public scrutiny in his hirings and firings to now becoming the Head man at Ole Miss football, Kiffin reflects on the peaks and pitfalls of a career that's seen everything from sideline success to very significant setbacks. Now older, wiser, and grounded in both his personal life and his coaching philosophy, Kiffin opens up about the man he's become, both for himself, his players and children. He talks candidly about getting sober, becoming a more present father, and rebuilding his life off the field, explaining how change didn't come from a breakdown, but from a decision to be better. Losing his father, his life-long hero, is a something Coach couldn't measure the impact one person could have on so many people and so many aspects of life until he had time to let his legacy sit in and guide him through the next phase of his life. The guys ask Kiffin about the ever-changing landscape of college football, NIL, the transfer portal, and what it takes to keep a team together when everything around it is constantly shifting. Kiffin isn't shy about the challenges, but he's also clear-eyed about what matters most, connection and relationships with these young men. He speaks on his Quarterback, a top NFL Draft prospect, Jaxson Dart and why any of the 32 teams isn't just getting a talented stud on the field but a massive star in everyday. Reflecting on his time working with mentors, Pete Carroll and Nick Saban, Lane offers a rare look into what shaped his football mind and how getting fired from USC, the job he once idolized, became a major pivot, forcing him to grow not just as a coach, but as a human. The guys go beyond X's and O's. From laughing about yoga poses and NIL drama to unpacking grief, fatherhood, and the need for emotional sobriety, Kiffin shows that vulnerability is not weakness it's evolution... “You don't have to figure it out forever. You just have to do it today,” he says. Getting prepped for the 2025 season after Spring ball, Coach Kiffin is already scheming, tweeting and quietly building something powerful in Oxford. He may not be calling Cover 2 like his dad, but he's got a few plays dialed up you won't see coming on this episode of the Pivot. Don't forget to like and comment as you follow us on YouTube! Lane Kiffin continued to recruit two prep quarterbacks – Landon Duckworth & Rydor Lyons – who could sign with the Ole Miss Rebels. I met with Duckworth after his Elite 11 performance to discuss his official visit schedule and where Ole Miss stands; I explain why I like Ole Miss's chances and a funny story Duckworth told me about Kiffin. On April 2, Lyons began an Ole Miss unofficial visit before making two more trips to Ohio State and Michigan. Locked On Ole Miss host Steven Willis and I discuss how Lyons fits into the Ole Miss recruiting equation, including his NIL situation. It's a really unique set of circumstances. Finally, we discuss a few SEC teams that may not win the SEC this season, but they could be the spoilers to keep other SEC programs from reaching Atlanta for the SEC title game. And if so, are the Buckeyes the favorite to win it all? Why were there so many blowouts in the College Football Playoff (22:00): Next, Torres talks about the fact that all four playoff games were blowouts. He believes there are two obvious reasons that this happened. One obvious, and one not. Lane Kiffin's social media meltdown (36:00): Finally, Torres talks about Lane Kiffin's Twitter meltdown, and says that Kiffin's whining is everything that's wrong with the new College Football Playoff format. The College Football Playoff committee all but assured Tuesday night Ole Miss is going to be left out of the 12-team field following championship weekend.“It's a lot easier when you just have to get up for two games a year,” fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said. The No. 13-ranked Rebels have no one to blame but themselves. Ole Miss was four plays away from 12-0. At least South Carolina was ranked behind the Rebels and isn't making it in either. Head-to-head still matters at least a little. Clemson is the Gamecocks' best win. They lost to both Ole Miss and Alabama. Of course they're out.Ole Miss was never going to win a 9-3 argument with Alabama and a worse strength of schedule. At least the Rebels licked their wounds with a Wednesday spent signing the best high school recruiting class in Kiffin's five Ole Miss seasons.Good thing, too. The wide receiver room is now further depleted following the departure of Juice Wells.Ole Miss signed, among others, five-star Caleb Cunningham and four-star Winston Watkins. Cunningham is the nation's No. 3 overall wide receiver, according to On3, as well as the No. 1 player in Mississippi.Ole Miss will be active at the position in the portal, too.Ben Garrett covers it all in an all-new edition of Talk of Champions, powered by RiverLand Roofing. Ole Miss finally dusted off its Bentley on Black Friday. The predictable result? Ulysses and Co. rolled to their fourth win in five seasons over rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. The No. 14-ranked Rebels finish the regular season 9-3 (5-3 SEC) and now turn to hopeful results elsewhere to boost their slim College Football Playoff chances. The Ole Miss Spirit's Ben Garrett has full postgame reaction from the 26-14 win, including a helmet sticker for third-year quarterback Jaxson Dart. Dart confirmed in his postgame comments he's played his final game inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.Bentley, IV, received an unexpectedly-busy home sendoff. He was the team leader in carries (20) and rushing yards (136). Bentley, IV, burst free for an 89-yard touchdown — the longest run in the SEC this season. He's now responsible for the Rebels' two longest runs of the year. Bentley, IV, had a 50-yarder at LSU. Which, again, makes his usage in 2024 all the more perplexing. The Spirit pressed Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin earlier this week about Bentley, IV, specifically. Now we only have more questions after Kiffin FINALLY let his Bentley out of the garage. In the SEC this season, it just means more losses, more parity, fewer elite teams and a struggle to qualify teams for the College Football Playoff. Ole Miss got swallowed up in The Swamp. Alabama suffered malice at The Palace. Kalen DeBoer and Lane Kiffin each possessed enough talent to field a playoff team, so why are they left needing more chaos to serve them up bids to their underachieving, three-loss teams? On today's episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams debate who endured a bigger faceplant this season, DeBoer or Kiffin? They also assess this glob of five SEC teams that are 8-3 and try to identify whether a playoff contender lurks within that bunch. Plus, Week 14 picks against the spread, as rivalry week takes hold!

Visit them online at RiverLandRoofing.com.Ole Miss is 8-3 (4-3 SEC) on the season following a crushing loss at Florida on Saturday. Results elsewhere in college football have kept the Rebels' plummeting College Football Playoff hopes at least on life support. Anything short of a berth for the Rebels in 2024-25 was always considered a failure. The primary culprit, assuming Ole Miss is ultimately left out, has been offensive underperformance. Worst of all? Perplexing personnel decisions by fifth-year head coach Lane Kiffin and staff.None is more egregious than the lack of usage for running back Ulysses Bentley, IV. Bentley, IV, entered the year as the highest-graded returning RB in the SEC. Yet, in a playoff-deciding game, Ole Miss' WR5 — Micah Davis, a offseason transfer from Utah State — received more carries than any other Rebel, regardless of position. He averaged 2.5 yards per carry.Bentley, IV, had zero carries. Ole Miss has lost two of three games in which Bentley, IV, hasn't gotten a touch. His only extended run was LSU. Bentley, IV, broke off the longest run of Ole Miss' season (50 yards).WR/DL accounted for 48.6 percent of the carries at Florida. QB Jaxson Dart had another 40 percent. RBs got 11.4 percent. And remember: Ole Miss was playing the No. 98-ranked run defense, too.MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. The guys react to an article stating how Kirby and Kiffin are two birds of a different feather when it comes to building a team
Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss have a chance to offset a loss to Kentucky from earlier this season when the Rebels face Georgia on Saturday. Oddsmakers put this game on a razor's edge, and the Bulldogs suddenly look vulnerable. And if Ole Miss pulls it off, then what? The Rebels would re-enter the playoff picture and crowd the bubble, and Kiffin would remain a top choice for ravenous Florida fans who are ready to throw overboard floundering coach Billy Napier. On today's episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams examine this critical moment for Kiffin and Ole Miss. They discuss whether Florida could seriously pursue Kiffin if Ole Miss makes the playoff, and they weigh the candidacy of Indiana's Curt Cignetti for Florida. Also in this episode, a conversation on Alabama at LSU: Who needs this game more, Kalen DeBoer, or Brian Kelly? Plus, a surprising hot-seat candidate has emerged in recent weeks. Finally, Week 11 picks against the spread!
No. 19 Ole Miss is headed to Arkansas this week — an historically difficult place to play for the Rebels. But they got back on track with a two-score win over Oklahoma and are favored over the rival Razorbacks. So, why the lowered expectations from Lane Kiffin this week? Kiffin said years ago he came to Ole Miss to be great, not good. Well, 6-2 (2-2 SEC) is, objectively, only good, and the Rebels have issues to go along with their wealth of positives. Forget the excuse-making and bring back the confidence bordering on arrogance. Ole Miss has bigger fish to fry, including its 11 a.m. CT showdown in Fayetteville on Saturday and broadcast by ESPN.Time for Kiffin and the Rebels to own their stuff, get after it and and go be great in their last-gasp College Football Playoff push. Our Sponsors:* Check out Five Nine Whiskey and use my code Champions20 for a great deal: fiveninewhiskey.com* Check out Mint Mobile: https://mintmobile.com/TOC* Check out PrizePicks: https://prizepicks.onelink.me/LME0/TALKOFCHAMPIONS* Check out Uncommon Goods and use my code TOC for a great deal: www.uncommongoods.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Hour 1 - Most NFL games come down to one possession, so Falcons fans should feel good about close wins In hour one Tiffany, Mike, and Beau discuss why the Falcons should still be considered a good team despite playing in a lot of close games, if the way the Falcons are winning games and playing defense is sustainable, and let you hear Lane Kiffin express his frustration over LSU getting to play in another night game, and Ole Miss not ever getting to play in any night games. The Morning Shift crew reacts to what Kiffin had to say as well.

Kiffin Rockwell believed that America owed France a debt for its support during the American Revolutionary War. He was 21 years old when World War I began, and he immediately sailed to France to volunteer to fight. He initially joined the French Foreign Legion, and then joined the Escadrille Americaine (later renamed the Lafayette Escadrille). He was credited with being the first American in the Escadrille Americaine to shoot down an enemy plane. He flew dozens of patrols and saw frequent combat before being killed in action on September 23, 1916. To discuss Rockwell's life and legacy, the World War I Podcast hosted Mark Trapp, author of A Destiny of Undying Greatness: Kiffin Rockwell and the Boys Who Remembered Lafayette. Ole Miss fans — or ‘The Shareholders,' as they will be referred moving forward in this all-new edition of Talk of Champions — should have one question and one question only for fifth-year head coach Lane Kiffin after LSU. The Rebels have already suffered their second loss of an already-in-peril 2024-25 season. They're down to No. 18 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll as a result. Ole Miss is off this week but next hosts Oklahoma in two Saturdays. What is Kiffin doing to fix this? It's not personal, only business, and both losses lay directly at Kiffin's feet. Pro mindset? So be it. Then I, Ben Garrett (@SpiritBen on X), am holding you, Lane Kiffin, the Ole Miss CEO, to account.Talk of Champions is always brought to you by RiverLand Roofing (RiverLandRoofing.com) and the Ole Miss Spirit (OMSpirit.com). Left tackle Jayden Williams is on the wrong side of doubtful with a meniscus injury. A freshly-released injury report this week indicated reinforcements could be on the way, but might not only come from the infirmary. Ulysses Bentley, IV, entered an expectations-filled 2024-25 season as the SEC's highest-graded returning running back. The tea leaves seem to indicate he could get more opportunity against the Gamecocks than the precious few snaps he's played through five games. Ole Miss could certainly use him. Actually, the Rebels could just use a win, period. Saturday is as must-win as a game can get, cliche as it is. At worst, it's inarguably one of the most consequential hinge/swing games for Ole Miss in five seasons under head coach Lane Kiffin. Our Sponsors:* Check out Mint Mobile: https://mintmobile.com/TOC* Check out PrizePicks: https://prizepicks.onelink.me/LME0/TALKOFCHAMPIONSAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
