Today's guest is a rising star who's risen so fast he's not really rising anymore — he's just a star. From a bedroom in Luton playing $50 nylon-string covers and open mics playing for 4 people... Three years later: a billion streams, "Stargazing" on President Obama's summer playlist, two singles that took over pop radio before he'd ever made a debut album, and a debut album sourced from the notes he wrote in therapy that saved him. He's proof that sometimes all you really need is a guitar, a work ethic, and a Taco Bell-poisoned night in Malibu to write a song people argue about in twenty languages. And the writer is... Myles Smith! If you've ever wanted something so badly you didn't think to ask what it would cost when it arrived — this is the conversation. And The Writer Is... Myles Smith! In this episode of And The Writer Is, we go deep on:• Why he scrubbed every song he made before 2023 — and what "I didn't exist before 2023" actually means• His advice for up and coming artists...• The end-of-Covid breakdown at 18 that almost ended things — and the therapy notes that became My Mess, My Heart, My Life.• Meeting Peter Fenn on the last day of a six-week US trip — and writing "My Home" in the first hour• The Taco Bell food-poisoning night in Malibu that produced "Stargazing"• The hidden cost of success on his relationships• "Hey mom, I want to retire you" — and what she said backAnd much more...Hit subscribe and turn on notifications. This week on The Gay Mix, the show opens in classic form — Adam's mixer is haunted by a poltergeist that only Daniel can hear, forcing him to do both halves of the intro like a one-man vaudeville act while narrating the technical difficulties in real time. It's the kind of barely-controlled chaos that reminds you this is live radio, baby, and nobody's editing it. Daniel then takes us to Disney World for not one but two exclusive previews — the new Soarin' Over America film (sesquicentennial! semi-sesqueent! whatever!) and the Muppets re-theme of Rock and Roller Coaster, which he loved so much he almost threw up. It turns out our bodies betray us in our forties, and Daniel has joined the ranks of gays who can no longer ride roller coasters without feeling it for hours afterward. A profound loss for the community. The Survivor 50 finale gets a proper postmortem, complete with Daniel's righteous fury about Jonathan being "just the man taking credit for the women's work" and the truly cringeworthy moment where Stephanie turned her jury question into a campaign rally. But the real showstopper is Jeff Probst accidentally spoiling the fire-making competition live by calling Rizzo to the jury before the footage aired, then scrambling to rebrand his blunder as a brand new twist called "See the Future." Daniel's physical reaction to watching someone fuck up on live television is worth the price of admission alone. Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert said goodbye after eleven years, the Pope refused to come out of his dressing room over a Chicago hot dog dispute, and Daniel cried. Of course he cried. That's what he does. The News Game delivers a rare and glorious 5-for-5 sweep — Daniel nails everything from the Justice Department's absurd $1.776 billion Trump ally fund to Elon Musk getting laughed out of court for missing a deadline. The Birthdays segment nearly breaks Daniel's brain as he spirals into an existential celebrity sorting crisis: is that voice the pale ginger with the loop pedal, or is it the gay one who sings about staying with me? Adam calmly confirms the gay angle, then drops Ed Sheeran's age — 34 — like it's nothing. Daniel, who has admittedly been drinking, is genuinely floored. Add in a dinner with Jean featuring a window-raccoon, Cher turning 80 (she's 49, argue with the wall), Mr. T at 74 still doing the same jokes, and the celebrity death phone pot climbing to $111, and you've got an episode that careens from tender friendship confession to chaotic celebrity confusion with the elegance of a trash panda on a restaurant balcony.Email: Contact@MixMinusPodcast.comVoice/SMS: 707-613-3284
British pop star Maisie Peters first came to Australia supporting her friend (and boss), Ed Sheeran. Since then, she’s released one of the most beloved breakup albums in modern pop, toured with Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour, gone viral for reasons both good and brutal, and built a fiercely devoted fanbase drawn to her razor-sharp songwriting about love, heartbreak and, yes, “mid men”. Now, Maisie is back with a new album, Fluorescence — a record that feels softer, happier and more grounded than the chaos of The Good Witch. In this conversation with No Filter Executive Producer Bree Player, Maisie opens up about the “mid men” who inspired her biggest songs, the online backlash that followed her viral Eras Tour moment, what it was like recovering from serious vocal issues behind the scenes, and how falling in love changed the way she writes music. They also talk about songwriting as emotional archaeology, growing up online, why happiness is actually harder to write about than heartbreak, and the surprisingly healthy reality of being in a relationship while still performing songs about exes night after night. Plus: Ed Sheeran as a boss, secret boyfriends with emoji faces, and why Maisie Peters considers all of Australia her hometown.

In the midst of the late 2015 charts that featured the likes of Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Adele, and Drake, you'll find Elle King, the raspy-voiced singer-songwriter whose sound was a cross between country and rock. Her Top 10 hit “Ex's & Oh's” was a critically acclaimed track that describes Elle's past relationships with needy men and how they tend to come back to haunt her. The music video flipped gender roles and satirized the objectification of women by featuring a whole host of scantily-clad men, and Elle seemed to be a strong feminist voice that would be in our lives for a long time. She even had a crossover appeal that allowed her to share the stage with anyone from Modest Mouse to Ed Sheeran. Has enough time even passed for us to be able to officially call Elle King a one hit wonder, or should we all be yelling “you can do it!” while she works on new material? Today, we're joined by podcaster and YouTuber Robert Bacon to dive into her career and see if we should be “makin' copies” of her albums for each other. We are officially entering the "Multi-AI Era." Much like the multi-cloud times, organizations are no longer just using a single AI tool like Microsoft Copilot, they are building custom, agentic workflows using diverse third-party models and MCP servers . In this episode, Ashish sits down with Shawn Hays from Varonis to discuss why the security market has over-pivoted on AISPM (AI Security Posture Management) . Shawn spoke about how having visibility and an inventory of your AI models is a great start, but it fails to secure the enterprise if you lack the guardrails to actually stop an agent from going off the rails and exfiltrating data . Shawn breaks down the components of a robust AI security platform (like Varonis Atlas) and explains why data security is inseparable from AI security. He spoke about why AI agents will blindly "read whatever is on the teleprompter," meaning your AI is only as secure as the data access and identity controls surrounding it . Exciting news for fans of the summer I Turned Pretty filmy has officially begun this week for the film installment. First scenes are being shot in Wilmington, North Carolina, and production. 01:35Speaker 1 Is expected to run for about two months. 01:38Speaker 2 The cast are reportedly getting paid for the equivalent of three episodes, which makes sense when you break down timings. Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad, of course are returning, but additional supporting cast members are yet to be now and so there will no doubt be some surprises to come. Jenny Hahn, who wrote the iconic book trilogy, has hindered that the film will center on another big milestone in Belly's journey, and we're thinking people motherhood. 02:01Speaker 1 Surely she's too young for that. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. 02:04Speaker 2 Now. I know we talked about Helena Bottom Carter exiting White Loatus season four earlier this week, and I promised you I keep you posted on who was stepping in while the answer has arrived and it's a good one. 02:14Speaker 1 Oscar win out. 02:15Speaker 2 Laura Dern has joined the season forecast, stepping in after Helena's exit. Crucially, she's not taking over Helena's role. That character has been scrapped entirely. Instead, Mike White has written a brand new character specifically for her. Now this is not a random casting either. They go way back. They created the HBO cult favorite Enlightened together, for which Durn won a Golden Globe, and whitebrote and directed the two thousand and seven film Year of the Dog with Laura Dern. They were even photographed together having somemovies in La last July, which fans were speculating at a time was a White Lotus meeting. 02:49Speaker 1 It took nine months, but fans, as always, were right, and here we are sticking around. 02:54Speaker 2 Billie Eilish gives us a lesson in astrology, and the Friends cast is still making an obscene amount of money from his jewels. 03:03Speaker 1 Welcome back to your morning tea. 03:05Speaker 2 This next story is either going to delight you or make you want a life faced down on the floor, possibly both. 03:09Speaker 1 Lisa Kudro has revealed in a new interview. 03:11Speaker 2 With the Times of London that the Friend's cast is still earning a jaw dropping amount from the show. I'm talking twenty million dollars in residuals two decades after it ended. Now Friends generates about a billion dollars annually for Warner Brothers through broadcast rights and syndication, and each cast member received two percent of that twenty million dollars a year for a show that wrapped in two thousand and four. 03:35Speaker 1 I'm thrilled for them, and also I need. 03:38Speaker 2 To go and cry in a closet while I lament my measly sayings in super write a quick but important one. 03:43Speaker 1 Next Ed Sheerann has shaved your head. The ginger hair has gone. 03:45Speaker 2 He's bald, and he's explained why in an Instagram post ed wrote, yes, I've shaved my hair. I wanted to shave it to signify a fresh start, a lot of new beginnings in my life at the moment. I love it thinking of keeping it this way. He also revealed he's been privately battling shit she can go for the past month, writing wouldn't recommend it, but on the Men's now it is about to recummens. He's looped to a heading to the Dominican Republic next week, and I'll leave you this. Billy Ailey sat down with l for quick Q and A and included this cheeky astrology Listen, what. 04:15Speaker 3 Is a common misconception about Sagittarius's bitch. Those are not misconceptions, those are true. Here's the thing about astrology. That shit is real. That shit is true. And this is coming from a person who if somebody brought up astrology, I would be like, oh my God, please shut the fuck up. And then I met a Gemini man and I dated as ass and then I believed in astrology. And since then, no matter what, without a doubt, I can recognize a Gemini from a mile away girl. Gemini's amazing life of the party. My favorite people in the world. Male Geminis go to help, so Sagittarius is. Here's the real conception, not misconception, conception about Sagittarius's loud, stubborn, obnoxious, bossy, funny, insane, sexy, good in bed. Yeah, kind of flaky, also a little flaky. 05:13Speaker 1 I'm working on it and I could not love that check anyway. That is it for today's morning tea. 05:17Speaker 2 Thank you for spending a couple of minutes of your Wednesday hanging out with me, Ash London. 05:21Speaker 1 I'm your host and producer. 05:23Speaker 2 Menisia Is Warren is the executive producer, and of course the girls that be back right here in your feet with three pm. Caroline shares how deep research and dry wit shape her storytelling, revealing surprising details about Taylor's music activism, her fight to reclaim her album rights from Scooter Braun, and her extraordinary bond with her mother. Tune in to hear Caroline read from the afterword of Era by Era, capturing the final emotionally charged night of the Eras Tour in Vancouver and what comes next for Taylor Swift. What You'll Learn in This Episode: What an unauthorized biography actually means legally, and how a skilled music journalist like Caroline Sullivan conducts deep research without ever meeting the subject, using published sources, industry contacts, and her own expert voice to tell a compelling story about a Taylor Swift biography. How Taylor Swift's music activism led her to spend nearly five years fighting to buy back her first six albums from Scooter Braun, ultimately reclaiming her album rights and setting a powerful precedent for artists across the music industry. How Caroline approached the tone of Era by Era differently from other Taylor Swift books by weaving in dry British humor and personal music journalism perspective, turning dense research into a reading experience worthy of a Sunday Times bestseller.Subscribe to Reenita's Storytelling Den on Substack for free at https://substack.com/@reenitahora and to her YouTube channel to watch the video version of this episode! https://www.youtube.com/@reenymalCheck out her website to stay up-to-date on events, book releases and more! https://reenita.com/TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Reenita opens with a bold question about unauthorized biography writing and what permissions are actually required.02:00 Caroline Sullivan discusses her six books, including pop star profiles of Madonna, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Dua Lipa, and Taylor Swift04:10 Deep dive into music journalism research methods and why published sources form the backbone of a music biography06:36 The origin story of Taylor Era by Era, how the publisher approached her after her Dua Lipa book, and how it sold 50,000 copies12:20 Discussion of Taylor Swift's music activism, her long battle to reclaim her album rights, and her influence on the broader music industry19:00 Caroline reads from the afterword of Taylor Era by Era, covering the final night of the Eras Tour in Vancouver and Taylor's appearance at the Grammy AwardsKEY TAKEAWAYS: Writing a Taylor Swift biography without the subject's cooperation is entirely legal and achievable through thorough research, industry sources, and a strong authorial voice.
