Ideas Into Reality has been created to inspire everyone to take action to turn their ideas into reality, no matter what experience they have, where they live or who they think they are right now. On this journey, we will be introducing you to founders that have taken their tiny flicker of an idea and done what it takes to bring it to reality. We will be asking them to share the real, behind the scenes story...what triggered their idea in the beginning, what it has taken to get them where they are now, and how has their idea morphed along the way, who has helped them on their journey, and what were some of the pitfalls they encountered, what is coming up next for them, and what key lesson have they learned that they want to share with you, to encourage you to make the choice to leap and start on your own journey of bringing your idea into reality. Each week, we will also take a few extra minutes to dig into the 'how' of some of those lessons, so that you can feel more confident... in what to actually do... when you start to take action on your idea. Ideas Into Reality is hosted and produced by the team behind Canvas Coworking and Startup Toowoomba, so we will be talking to founders from our local community in regional Queensland, as well as some of the interesting folk that we have met during our travels around the globe. There are millions of stories waiting to be told, and many many millions more that have yet to evolve. We want to fan the flames of those ideas that are yet to see the light of day. If you are keen to know what it is really like to turn an idea into reality, be sure to subscribe to this podcast on your favourite podcast app!
Today's guests are on a mission to save the planet, one microalgae at a time...and they are starting with the superfood, Spirulina. How? Anna Hendra is the founder of Ocean Orchards and along with her partner, Adrian Spierings is part of the Flair Incubator family. This week I have the incredible pleasure of introducing you to Natalie D'Alessandro. Her story is inspiring on many levels, some, like saving the planet I feel strongly aligned with, others, like having rooms full of clothing and accessories are less familiar to me, yet over the last few months of having Natalie in the Flair Incubator program, I have learned that there is an incredibly close association between these topics...and Natalie is a driving force to create a better solution to bring sustainable fashion into the minds, hearts and hands of people all over the world through Her Wardrobe Markets.Links mentioned in this episode:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nataliedalessandro/Her Wardrobe Markets: https://www.herwardrobe.com/Facebook: Her Wardrobe Markets https://www.facebook.com/HerWardrobeMarketsInstagram: Her Wardrobe Markets https://www.instagram.com/HerWardrobeMarkets/Flair Incubator: https://canvascoworking.com.au/flair/Contact Us:Canvas Coworking https://canvascoworking.com.au/or find us on FB https://www.facebook.com/canvascoworking/Startup Toowoomba https://startuptoowoomba.com.au/or find us on FB https://www.facebook.com/startuptoowoomba/Get in touch with our host, Joy Taylor via LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joymtaylor/

I knew that I would like today's guest before I met her. Ashley Jubinville and her partner Matt Weller are the Founders of Phyto, an innovative solution for butter lovers that want an alternative to the dairy variety...theirs is made from plants. Why did I know I would like Ashley? She filled out her application for Flair Incubator as if we were having a chat, and after being invited to the Selection Bootcamp, she responded to our questions with quirky answers that let us get to know her character and personality. This of course was confirmed once we met in person, and having her and Matt involved in Flair has been a blessing, as, in addition to their passion and commitment, they bring butter!Links mentioned in this episode:LinkedIn: Ashley Jubinvillehttps://www.linkedin.com/in/ashleyjubinville/LinkedIn: Matt Weller https://www.linkedin.com/in/mgweller/Phyto: https://www.phyto.kitchen/Phyto Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/phytokitchenPhyto Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/phyto.kitchen/The Kitchen Coach: https://thekitchencoach.com/Darling Fresh Consulting: https://darlingfresh.com.au/The Curse of the Capable: http://www.thecurseofthecapable.com/Flair Incubator: https://canvascoworking.com.au/flair/Contact Us:Canvas Coworking https://canvascoworking.com.au/or find us on FB https://www.facebook.com/canvascoworking/Startup Toowoomba https://startuptoowoomba.com.au/or find us on FB https://www.facebook.com/startuptoowoomba/Get in touch with our host, Joy Taylor via LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joymtaylor/

I first met Linda McCall when she rode into town on her motorbike and rocked up at Canvas Coworking for a visiting entrepreneur event with a fellow from the USA that she and her partner Mark Philips were escorting around Qld startup communities. Linda and Mark were living a nomadic lifestyle, running their business supporting entrepreneurs and travelling around Australia. As very experienced travellers, having been to over 100 countries, it was no surprise when they decided to start their latest startup Nomad Stays, which is helping digital nomads and remote workers find longer term accommodation options in beautiful hidden parts of the world, as well as helping accommodation providers in these areas to understand the benefits of catering to the longer term guest. Creating a social enterprise is often something people have an idea about but find it difficult to bring to reality. Today's guest is not that person, she is a doer, and not just once but a repeater as well. Susy Wenitong was the founder of 2ndShot a social enterprise that provides homeless people with an opportunity to learn skills and re-engage with the community in a way that builds their confidence and self-esteem and ultimately a future that they look forward to. Having achieved her goal of making 2ndShot successful and able to continue without her, Susy is now the co-ordinator at Protea Place, a space for women here in Toowoomba where she has used all her prior experience and learning to create an environment that is beautiful and welcoming and empowering.Instead of a startup lesson today, I have a second guest join me for a conversation with about a wonderful new project that is about to launch, the Toowoomba Creative CBD. Interview with Kurt Alexander and Startup Lesson on when to quit your day jobThe journey of a non-tech solo-founder of a tech business is not an easy one, and requires a real passion for the problem, commitment to seizing opportunities and a personality that makes everyone feel welcome to be involved. Today's guest embodies all of the above, and it has been my great pleasure to be a small part of the story that has evolved. Kurt Alexander is the founder of Quick Safety, a reg-tech startup that is making the electrical industry safer, and more compliant through the use of technology guided by a thorough understanding of the problem and diligence in bringing the relevant parties to the table to develop a solution that works. This week's Startup Lesson on when to quit your day jobLinks mentioned in this episode:Quick Safety https://www.quicksafety.com.au/Kurt Alexander https://www.linkedin.com/in/kurtalexander/Contact Us:Canvas Coworking https://canvascoworking.com.au/or find us on FB https://www.facebook.com/canvascoworking/Startup Toowoomba https://startuptoowoomba.com.au/or find us on FB https://www.facebook.com/startuptoowoomba/Get in touch with our host, Joy Taylor via LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joymtaylor/
Today I have the great pleasure of introducing you all to Steph Piper. Steph is the founder of Piper 3D, the resident maker at the USQ Makerspace and one half of the emerging electronic tech kits for girls company, Elkei Education. For the last few years, I have had the opportunity to watch and be a part of Steph's journey of bring the idea behind Elkei Education to life, along with her co-founder Andrea Madden. From the very first pitch at a Startup Weekend I have been excited about seeing the idea evolve, particularly as it aligns so closely with one of my favourite programs here at Canvas Coworking, which is our free kids coding club, called CoderDojo Toowoomba. I am excited to have my first co-founder guests on today's show, Wendy Allen and Helen Reynolds from Stored Naturally. Wendy has been a member of Canvas Coworking from almost the very beginning, with Helen coming along a few years ago. One of the things I love most about being involved with Canvas Coworking, is seeing connections made at our events blossom into something...and it warms my heart to know that Wendy and Helen met at one of our social events. They were also inspiration in the creation of this podcast, as they kept me on task during the Start Your Own Podcast course that we all completed together recently, and their podcast, Gutsy Matters has also launched to the world...all while running their other businesses as wellIn this week's Startup Lesson we extend the thoughts of why start, to how to end. However, we have managed to survive 5 years in business together and this interview, so we are doing okay… David's story is a great one for anyone who has an idea to take their existing bricks and mortar business in a slightly different direction and online…This week's Startup Lesson is all about talking, and why it is important to talk about the problem to learn as much as you can before you start talking about your idea for a solution.Links mentioned in this episode:Shedblog https://shedblog.com.au/Lean Canvas https://leanstack.com/leancanvasContact Us:Canvas Coworking https://canvascoworking.com.au/or find us on FB https://www.facebook.com/canvascoworking/Startup Toowoomba https://startuptoowoomba.com.au/or find us on FB https://www.facebook.com/startuptoowoomba/Get in touch with our host, Joy Taylor via LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/joymtaylor/
