Embracing a growth mindset allows you to view challenges as opportunities for growth. Instead of seeing children's behaviour as annoying or disruptive, understand it as a form of communication and approach it with curiosity rather than judgment. We welcome back Dr Sue Allingham in this episode following on from a month highly focused around mental health and wellbeing. We often discuss wellbeing from both a theoretical view and quite a negative and deficit perspective of all the things that are not working. What about discussing what we CAN do, the solutions rather than just the problems… Angelica Celinska and Dr Sue Allingham discuss both adults' and children's wellbeing, what is right for each individual, what is your way of listening? How sometimes we recognise individual needs in adults but actually not always in children. The fact that we cannot schedule wellbeing, and in who's opinion is it wellbeing anyway? What does wellbeing mean? They consider the need to recognise how the other person feels secure in themselves, and questioning “what do I know about the children and adults around me and what makes them feel comfortable”?   Angelica and Sue tap into: Stepping back and observing – interacting or interfering (Julie Fisher) The adult agenda impacting on children's wellbeing ‘Chocolates in the staffroom and golden time on a Friday' Sitting ‘nicely' – what IS sitting nicely, in who's opinion? Intrinsic vs extrinsic motivation The Leuven Scale – Dr Ferre Laevers' emotional wellbeing and involvement scales Sticker charts, marble jars, golden time, circle time…does this work for your children? I hope that you have all had a refreshing holiday and that you are ready for a brilliant Term 1. As much as I enjoy the holidays, I start to get really excited to go back and teach. Before we launch into the year ahead, I thought that I would share a recent conversation that I had with the brilliant Amy Green - and no, we are not related. Amy is a former teacher and school leader who is the founder of The Wellness Strategy. She works with individuals and workplaces, to help them understand what well-being is, develop well-being literacy, and to co-design and create well-being strategies and interventions that work.  This is a really important conversation to have at the beginning of the year so that we all can have a more meaningful conversation about well-being.  Her recent book Teacher Wellbeing was a great read and I am so grateful that I got to work with her.  All of Amy's details are available below in the show notes.  I hope that you enjoy this conversation that I had with Amy Green.   The Art of Teaching Podcast resources:  Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/artofteaching Here is the link to the show notes: https://theartofteachingpodcast.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theartofteachingpodcast/

If you are a teacher who is ready to switch from people-pleasing to self-compassion, this is the episode for you. I'm sharing the statements and affirmations that have worked for me. You're welcome to steal them and use them on your tricky days. If you want to share yours, email hello@winewithteacher.com and I'll read them out in a future episode. In this episode I shared how to choose compassion over criticism: Honour Your Energy. Check Your Capacity. At What Cost? Whoopsy Daisy! Embrace Your Chaos. You Can't Be the Whole Orchestra. Make Yourself a Priority. Do Your Best and Leave the rest. "Students can't thrive if their teachers just survive." [Unteachables] PS: #workloadreduction Which one resonated with you? Teacher well-being, or the lack thereof, is absolutely no joke. Teachers are leaving the profession in droves… and teachers are usually people who don't join the profession on a whim to begin with, I'd say we usually have a pretty solid ‘why'. So what is going on here? I have a special guest Jodi also known as @thebusyteachersclub on Instagram, who is in the middle of launching her teacher well-being course, Ditch Burnout and Thrive. You can head to her Instagram for all of the details, or the following link: www.busyteachersclub.co.uk/ditchburnoutThe link to just jump straight in and enrol is: https://www.busyteachersclub.co.uk/offers/HQzxwx8aIn this episode, Jodi and myself have a great chat about:What is driving teachers to burnout? What does teacher wellbeing really mean? What would it take to address it in schools? And whose responsibility is it, really? Is it the schools? Leadership? AWARE Trainings and the EnneagramThis month Stacy and Nicole are talking about the professional development courses they have planned for this summer. Today we talk about Teacher Wellbeing and the Enneagram. We have talked about teacher wellbeing and self-care quite a bit over the course of this AWARE grant. Our thoughts about it have shifted and refined as we have tried different things and heard from educators. Even if “self-care” seems like a dirty word to you at this point, we still need it… so what do we do about that? We also talked about how the Enneagram continues to be a beneficial tool as we look at self-care and SEL skills! Stacy and Nicole are doing a 3 hour virtual course on Teacher Wellbeing on June 1st. Nicole will be doing breakout sessions on Teacher Wellbeing and the Enneagram at the ASCD conference on June 6th in Bentonville. We hope you'll join us!Welcome to season 3 of Arkansas A.W.A.R.E.!Join Betsy Kindall, Nicole Fairchild, and Stacy Moore as they discuss issues related to mental health in education. Their conversations are witty and relate-able, simultaneously shedding light on issues that can sometimes be hard to confront or understand. These episodes are chunked into small bites and packed with information that would be helpful to educators, parents, children.....anyone! We want to help make everyone more A.W.A.R.E.!Project A.W.A.R.E. is a grant program funded by S.A.M.H.S.A. (the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). The Sandy Hook school shooting happened in December of 2012. In 2013 the White House initiative "NOW IS THE TIME" came out with 2 key goals:1. Make schools safer and more nurturing.2. Increase access to mental health services. The "NOW IS THE TIME" initiative laid the foundation for federal grants like A.W.A.R.E.
