At the age of 10, Zanya wrote down she was going to be an International Hockey player but it was only at the age of 30 she was called up for Irish Team.  We learn how this dream was realised. Zanya admits it was down to taking charge herself, being less reliant on others and having more faith in herself. Her biggest learning is to take small steps, achieve one milestone at a time. A key takeaway for us all!  When faced at career crossroads, Zanya chose a path close to where her true talents lie and subsequently had a very successful career and entrepreneurial journey.  Programs like Going for Growth were hugely important in feeling supported and surrounded by like minded entrepreneurs on the same journey.  It was Madeleine Albright that said ‘ There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women'  Making the brave decision to take a step back (and stating one favourite quote of Ladies of Measure todate) is the lesson she learnt ‘sit back and let the universe bring you what you need, set intentions more and not goals'. Crediting ‘Circle of Being' as being a transformational experience.  We cover so much in this conversation from motherhood, menstrual cycle, formula 1 to meditation.  Hockey Ireland Zanya Dahl  Book Ref: Wild Power  #meditation  #love #mindfulness #sport #womeninsport #womenhockey #hockey #podcast #podcasting #spotify #podcasts #podcastersofinstagram

Kate Acheson of the Coaching Studio is our guest this week. I feel it's a very appropriate & important conversation considering the times we are in. Kate shares what life was like growing up in Clonmel and what influenced her decision to enter the political scene, albeit in a supporting role.  Finding her tribe was a turning point in her life path - feeling comfortable and able to be herself. #lifegoals This easy to listen to conversation with Kate gently talks us through the meaning of ‘Self Care'  giving very grounded techniques of Self Care, Goal Setting, Vision Boarding & journaling, and if you are a perfectionist like me, tips on tackling a blank page in a new journal.  We learn why Kate ended up in coaching and the self empowerment in attending one of her workshops.  The pandemic has taken its toll on so many of us and you'll certainly pick 1 or 2 tips from this woman. With six months left to see the year out, set yourself up for success. Since this conversation, I've been turning my phone on flight mode at 10pm each night - it's been a game changer! Live What You Love is a selfless act by Marie to showcase how and where you can support Irish Businesses.  Maire leads the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Programme and who better to understand the world of entrepreneurship than Marie, stating ‘it is a lonely place'.  We reflect what Covid has taught us and the impact on our wellbeing.  Marie is on her own journey with grief and openly talks to us about the rollercoaster of emotions she faces each day.  It is very easy to glance on another person's life however it often does not reflect what's really going on, Marie reinforces the Ladies of Measure mantra of not comparing to others and not to be too hard on yourself.  livewhatyoulove.ie Live What You Love (@livewhatyoulove.ie) • Instagram photos and videos Ladies of Measure Podcast (@ladies_of_measure) • Instagram photos and videos

AFL sports person Ailish Considine joins me for hands down one of the most enjoyable conversations of this series. Her grounded attitude and openness to talk about her constant battle with negative self-talk and lack of confidence whilst knowing she is naturally a skillful individual.  In her teenage years she battled with self confidence linked to her weight and once she recognised that talent and skill can only bring you so far she began her fitness journey. Ailish credits improvements in confidence & mindset with getting physically fit.  IT Tralee was a turning point for Ailish on a couple of levels - Fitness & Mindset. Training provided an outlet to switch off the negative self-talk.    She tells us that over the years team sport provided her a safe space or company whether it be through deep and meaningfuls or the feeling or just being part of a tribe. She openly expresses that involvement in sport has seen her through darker days.  Sport took on a whole new meaning when she took part in Crosscoders which ended in a signed professional contract with the Adelaide Crows AFL Team. From learning a completely new sport on the other side of the World to winning a Grand Slam title to fulfilling an ambition to have her name on the wall. Need we say more.  Living and playing AFL in Australia is a dream come true for Ailish and her story is inspiring for all sports people who one day want to represent Ireland on an International level.  Over the past few months whilst in Ireland, Ailish has worked on fitness for her return to the season. Lisa Moloney and Fiona Hayes of Think Hackers join me for one of the most interesting conversations always….. communication.  The duo recently founded Think Hackers whose mission is to empower individuals to use words and emotions in articulating your best response.  In light of the year 2020 has been where communication has never been more important, we examine communication styles whilst understanding the personal responsibility we all contribute in the workplace, on social and during a pandemic.  This very likeable pair comes with years of experience across media, corporate transformation and various business environments - believing that when we learn to communicate to our full potential it’s because we have learnt to harness our emotional intelligence.   We talk about self worth, introverts versus extroverts, placing yourself in your managers shoes and taking personal responsibility in our roles.  Remembering we are all human and not to underestimate being kind in any environment we find ourselves in.  How we communicate has dramatically changed, the ability to read a room because we no longer find ourselves in a room but on Zoom. If you need some help which we all do contact Lisa and Fiona and you will not be disappointed.  Social https://www.instagram.com/thinkhackers/ https://www.instagram.com/fhstyle/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisamoloney/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/fionahayesireland/ References:  https://thinkhackers.com/

Bec’s talks to us about how starting out in your career doesn’t mean that it has to be linear. Bec’s attended an all girls, very sports oriented, secondary school and there she discovered she was more creative than sporty. Bec’s quotes Steve Job ‘ you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. In Bec’s case this certainly rings true. She shares her ‘manifesto’ list and believes that positive thinking shapes outcome. The creation of your own destiny is within your own control. Having married Damo, moved to Australia and raising two girls we talk about adjustment to Australian life and the sacrifices made. With 2020 being the year that it is;  saying ‘we are only a plane ride away’ no longer provides the comfort it once did.  We talk very openly about the challenges parenting brings as how very different our tiny humans are from one another and the pressures to get it right. The honesty of admitting that as parents, it's not about being liked but crucially it’s about ensuring as parents we bring up kind, respectful human beings. Taking the parenting role extremely seriously.  Bec’s and Damo built their dream home in Torquay and every aspect of the design is curated by the duo. This home is testament to the creativity and talent they hold in abundance.  Social media https://www.instagram.com/leyer_td/ #designedbyleÿer References:  https://www.leyer.com.au/

Regina talks to us about her path into politics, which started with campaigning for a new local playground. Having a young family when she was elected required support from the wider family to allow her to focus on public service. The sacrifices that Regina has made and the relationships her four children have with her own parents reminds us that it takes a village to rear a family.  We chat about the channels and platforms available today and how different media impact in different ways. Finding ways to communicate with audiences at various ages to stay connected and relevant. Regina very candidly reveals how these tools can also be a massive stick to beat  people with in a public forum, and how this can impact family, kids and one’s own confidence.  Regina believes ‘you can’t be, what you can’t see’, when we talk about the role we can play to encourage more women into politics. It has only been in recent years that there has been more women braving public life, which hopefully will inspire more, but warns if we can’t get a handle on the negative comments she fears women won’t pursue a career in politics. We talk about the current vibe, pandemic fatigue and how as a nation we are tired and the impacts on a psychosocial level.  We conclude with an insight into her new role as Senator and how very different it is from her role as a Minister. Her message is strong in terms of acting fast when you discover a lump whether you are unsure or not, make the appointment to see your GP.  As a mum of three young girls, she speaks about the overwhelming sense of needing to be there for her girls and the impact on her husband and her own mum and dad. Her eldest was 6 at the time. Paula speaks to everyone’s cancer being different so Dr.Google is not the resource to rely on in your early diagnosis.  https://www.breastcancerireland.com/  In her own words she expresses how breast cancer really attacks your femininity, the toll chemotherapy takes on your body but recalls the funny moments that occurred throughout the treatment.  She talks about how privileged she is, how lucky she feels and no longer sweats the small stuff.  Her words resonate and for me, making memories is what now unpins her parenting.  Paula is an ambassador for Breast Cancer Ireland and advocates strongly for educating women of all ages to be breast aware by regularly checking.
