It was an opening day defeat for Ireland in this Guinness Women's Six Nations as France left Belfast with a 12 point win. Ireland were left to rue missed opportunities to add to their tally with all three conversion attempts missed, in particular the missed attempt after the third try which would have made it all square with 12 minutes to play. Fiona Hayes, Jenny Murphy and Eimear Considine give their post-match reaction from studio here while we also hear from Edel McMahon and Scott Bemand at Ravenhill. Hosted on Acast. The bus had broken down. About 30 fifth graders and a few parent chaperones were stranded on the side of Interstate-81. The DVD player was broken, and after an hours-long field trip with no way back home, the kids started to cry. But fifth-grade teacher Jenny Murphy immediately sprung into action. She encouraged the teary-eyed fifth graders to keep their spirits up by playing different games and pulling out a book to read aloud. Murphy stepped into “mom mode,” making sure each student found a way home, and stayed on the side of the road for over six hours until...Article LinkSupport the Show.
Summary Dr Jenny Murphy is a senior lecturer at the University of Surrey. Here she discusses interoception and its importance in mental and physical health. Interoception refers to the processing of signals that come from inside the body, such as heart rate and breathing. People can differ in their ability to perceive these signals, as well as how much attention they pay to them and how they evaluate them. Interoception is associated with homeostasis and has been linked to various mental health conditions and higher-order cognitive abilities. Measurement of interoception is challenging but can be done through various tasks and self-report measures. Clinical applications include interoception training for anxiety and physical health conditions. Jenny discusses the role of perception and external cues in regulating the body, as well as the potential factors influencing interoception. She explains that her research focuses on measuring interoception and its development, and she is currently studying interoception across the menstrual cycle. Jenny also discusses the clinical implications of her work and the possible integration of interoception into therapy. She emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the need for more research on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Jenny mentions her upcoming textbook on interoception and concludes by offering advice on improving well-being through the understanding and regulation of interoceptive signals. She is editing a textbook on interoception at the moment that should be published by Springer, Nature at the end of the year. Keywords interoception, signals, perception, attention, evaluation, mental health, physical health, measurement, clinical applications, perception, external cues, regulation, body, interoception, development, menstrual cycle, clinical implications, therapy, interdisciplinary collaboration, thoughts, feelings, behavior, textbook, well-being Takeaways Interoception refers to the processing of signals that come from inside the body, such as heart rate and breathing. Measurement of interoception is challenging but can be done through various tasks and self-report measures. Clinical applications of interoception include training for anxiety and physical health conditions. Perception and external cues play a role in regulating the body and compensating for imperfect interoceptive signals. Jenny's research focuses on measuring interoception and its development, with current studies on interoception across the menstrual cycle. There are limited clinical implications of interoception research at present, but it may contribute to therapies like mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Interoception is an interdisciplinary field that can benefit from collaboration and integration with other areas of research. The relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior is complex and requires further investigation in the context of interoception. Jenny is working on a textbook on interoception that aims to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive resource for students and practitioners. Improving well-being through interoception involves recognizing the balance between paying attention to bodily signals and focusing on external cues. Publications https://www.jennymurphylab.com/publications Bio Jenny completed her PhD at King's College London in December 2019. Here she investigated the measurement of interoception, it's developmental trajectory and the relationship between interoception, health and higher order cognition. In April 2020 she took up a lectureship position at Royal Holloway University of London and in March 2024 she took up a senior lectureship position at the University of Surrey. Jenny's work on interoception has been recognised by several awards for doctoral contributions (from the British Psychological Society, Experimental Psychology Society and King's College London) and early career prizes (the American Psychological Society Rising Star Award and the Young Investigator Award from the European Society for Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience). Jenny is particularly interested in sex differences in interoceptive abilities, including how these emerge across development and whether they relate to sex differences in mental and physical health. She currently holds a New Investigator Grant from the Medical Research Council for investigating changes in interoception across the menstrual cycle.

This season on the show is all about Chicken Soup Conversations - D&Ms with my “anchors”, those who have seen me through some big chapters in my life and whom I've built a rich tapestry of shared experience with. My intent is to welcome you into our conversation each week as we share memories, funny stories and life lessons together… and no doubt give you a much more “rounded” perspective on who I am! This week's Chicken Soup Conversation is with my sister Jenny Murphy. She's 3.5 years younger than me, however our dynamic is more like she's the sensible older sister. She overcame dyslexia as a young child and went on to study across three countries and become a (pretty awesome IMO) teacher. She's married to her brilliant husband Blaine and is a mum to toddler Fiadh… and at the time of recording this she was 25 weeks' pregnant with their second baby. This is my very first time interviewing a family member, so I was in equal parts nervous and excited about this episode! In our chat, we talk about: The childhood we experienced together Our description of each other as kids (hers is bang-on for me!) Her experience of dyslexia, how she overcame it to become a teacher herself, and the lessons she took from it Our favourite memories from our three big trips together - to Malaysia, Russia and a Texan cattle ranch Why food is such an important (ok, vital) part of both our lives The reason both of us value productivity so highly How my approach to birth influenced hers, and how she surprised me with a brand new niece How (in a way) we are as alike as we are different The greatest things we've taught each other What life in Iso Ireland is like I'm so honoured I get to share my amazing sister with you this week, and I hope you enjoy our chat. I'm at the drawing board now planning the next season of the show and I would LOVE to get your input. I've created this super easy (and quick!) survey and would be super appreciative if you could give me your two cents worth AND be in the running to win a spot on my brand new program that's launching this month.
