The best leaders are the ones that can hold space for both—care personally and challenge directly. Work never happens in a vacuum. Field calls, customer pressure, travel, and deadlines compound the very real mental load carried by water professionals. In this conversation, Dr. Andy Melton, a professional counselor and executive coach at  www.andymelton.com—shares clear, practical ways leaders and teams can recognize mental health warning signs, set the right boundaries, and respond with care without stepping outside their role.  Care Personally, Challenge Directly—Inside Clear Boundaries Managers aren't neutral parties, and that matters. Andy explains the built-in conflict of interest when a supervisor probes too deeply into an employee's personal struggles. You still need to check in—but do it in role: use open-ended, performance-anchored questions (“What's been challenging for you lately?”), document observations, and offer resources instead of diagnoses. He also highlights Kim Scott's “Radical Candor” frame—care personally and challenge directly—as a durable leadership posture for tough conversations.   Spotting Decline Early—Behavioral, Cognitive, Physical  Before missed KPIs and callbacks spike, there are tells: sudden drops in productivity, withdrawal, irritability, rising absence/tardiness, markedly negative self-talk, and physical complaints (fatigue, headaches, stomach issues). Andy shares a simple “dashboard” self-check—sleep and eating patterns—plus trackable 1–10 scales for stress, energy, engagement, and mood stability to catch trends early.  When It's Serious—Safe Paths and Resources  Anonymous surveys can surface urgent risks—including suicidality. Andy outlines responsible next steps: widen communication, invite follow-ups, and immediately involve a mental health professional or crisis resources. Know the number 988 and your local mobile crisis team information; publish those options prominently so help is never far away.  Grounding Under Load—3 Techniques You Can Use Anywhere  For anxiety (mind racing ahead) and depression (mind stuck in the past), uniting mind and body in the present increases bandwidth. Andy teaches three job-friendly tools: the four-second “box” breath, a five-senses “sensory scan,” and a head-to-toe “progressive muscle relaxation.” Each can be done discreetly at a desk, in a service truck, or before a customer meeting.  Strong operations require strong people. Build a culture that normalizes check-ins, provides resources, and keeps performance expectations clear. That's how teams protect each other and maintain reliability in the field.  Listen to the full conversation above. In this week's episode we're answering one of YOUR questions with a combination of expert tips and personal experience.  The Question: “I'm 23 years old and have never had an orgasm. I have a wonderful boyfriend, whom I very much enjoy having sex with, but cannot finish, and have not been able to with the other people I've slept with. I also masturbate relatively frequently, and have tried a few different toys, and manual stimulation as well. I recently talked to my friend about this, who suggested watching porn to see if this helped, but I really just couldn't get into it. I have a pretty active brain, and sometimes will struggle to be fully in the moment. Even when I'm turned on, and enjoying it, I don't know if I'm able to be fully present. Am I broken? I know you usually say that everyone is different, but I often find sex and masturbation feels “nice” with smaller pockets of pleasure. My boyfriend is great, and priorities making me feel good with going down on me, encouraging me to use toys when we're together etc, but I still can't. Is it possible that I just am not capable of orgasming? I'd really appreciate your opinions and advice." What We Cover in This Episode: Not having an orgasm doesn't mean you're broken. We break down the orgasm trap and explain how pressure can make it harder to cum. If you've ever done “everything right” all day — hitting your protein, steps, water, and calories — only to lose control at night with binge eating or mindless snacking… this episode is going to show you exactly how to stop that cycle for good.In this episode, we break down why nighttime binge eating isn't a discipline or willpower problem at all — it's a pattern problem. Most people don't even realize the ways their relationship with food, stress, and old diet rules are setting them up to fail. These patterns can completely stall fat loss, wreck consistency, and keep you stuck in the exhausting loop of “start over Monday.”What we covered in today's episode:- Why binge eating is never a willpower issue — and what's really behind it- The root causes of nighttime binges- How anticipating the problem (instead of ignoring it) is the first step to change- Why “just trying harder” doesn't work, and what to do instead- Grounding techniques to regulate emotions so food isn't your only outletTIMESTAMPS:(00:00) - Intro(00:48) - Why Binge Eating NEEDS to be addressed (no matter how bad)(05:18) - 3 Strategies for Stopping Binge Eating at Night(05:50) - #1: Are you making a plan???(08:58) - #2: Learn why you're binge eating(18:11) - #3: Grounding yourself(27:22) - Weight Loss and Binge EatingMY RESOURCES & SPECIAL OFFERS:‣ Join Dieting From The Inside Out & get immediate access: https://inquire.hamiltontrained.com/collective‣ To apply for private, 1:1 coaching with Jared DM "Coaching" to 765-308-5751‣ Grab the Food Noise Solution Guide Here: https://inquire.hamiltontrained.com/food-noiseFIND ME ON:‣ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/realjaredhamilton‣ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@JaredHamilton‣ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@realjaredhamilton‣ Email: jared@hamiltontrained.com----© 2025 Jared Hamilton-----

Have you ever noticed how the quiet moments hit hardest after divorce? When the kids go to their dad's house or when night falls and you're left alone with your thoughts, your mind can start spinning with memories, logistics, and the weight of your new reality. The Slow Body Swivel practice introduced in this episode offers a gentle alternative to the distractions we typically reach for like social media doom scrolling, checking out, or having that extra glass of wine. This powerful grounding technique helps create capacity in your nervous system to handle challenges without feeling overwhelmed. Creating nervous system capacity isn't about eliminating negative emotions or always being in perfect alignment. It's about developing the ability to handle life's challenges during divorce and beyond without feeling incapable. Through regular practice, you can build this capacity, allowing yourself to stay present with your emotions rather than getting lost in rumination or looking for that easy escape. To download your FREE GUIDE: "7-Day Self Trust Reset" click here. Some of the greatest stories of believers down through time have involved those who really studied God's Word. These people have gone before us to show us the way. From Charles Spurgeon to a missionary mother in China, daily study of the Word and prayer prepared them to mentor entire generations.Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”We also read in Romans 10 that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. We have to do it so that others know how. Remember, there is no substitute for spending time in God's Word.In order to properly train an apprentice, you need to obviously be prepared and adept. Anything less leads to weak faith, or no faith at all. This is what the Great Commission, sharing the Gospel, has always been about. Duplicating disciples. Grounding your own faith in the Bible, then imparting that to others. That is the essence of true iron sharpening iron.Let's pray.Lord, keep us about your work by daily reminding us to spend time with you in Your Word. The Black Death that arrived in the spring of 1348 eventually killed nearly half of England's population. In its long aftermath, wages in London rose in response to labor shortages, many survivors moved into larger quarters in the depopulated city, and people in general spent more money on food, clothing, and household furnishings than they had before. Household Goods and Good Households in Late Medieval London: Consumption and Domesticity After the Plague (U Pennsylvania Press, 2021) by Dr. Katherine French looks at how this increased consumption reconfigured long-held gender roles and changed the domestic lives of London's merchants and artisans for years to come.Grounding her analysis in both the study of surviving household artifacts and extensive archival research, Dr. French examines the accommodations that Londoners made to their bigger houses and the increasing number of possessions these contained. The changes in material circumstance reshaped domestic hierarchies and produced new routines and expectations. Recognizing that the greater number of possessions required a different kind of management and care, Dr. French puts housework and gender at the center of her study. Historically, the task of managing bodies and things and the dirt and chaos they create has been unproblematically defined as women's work. Housework, however, is neither timeless nor ahistorical, and Dr. French traces a major shift in women's household responsibilities to the arrival and gendering of new possessions and the creation of new household spaces in the decades after the plague. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Mind–Body–Soul Alignment & The Real Work of Gratitude with Shannon Curtis

Healthy Mind, Healthy Life

On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik digs into a direct, practical conversation with Shannon Curtis—founder of Angel Goddess Healing and author of “No More Monsters Under the Bed: Shining Your Light on the Dark.” Shannon unpacks how trauma shows up in the body, why sobriety and boundaries keep spiritual work grounded, and how a daily gratitude practice can shift your nervous system without bypassing pain. Expect clear, actionable steps: listen to the body, integrate the soul, and let gratitude train your mind. This is a straight-talk guide to moving from hurt to healing—without fluff.   About the guest  : Shannon Curtis is a coach and founder of Angel Goddess Healing. Her work blends body awareness, trauma-informed processing, and grounded spiritual practices. She's the author of “No More Monsters Under the Bed: Shining Your Light on the Dark” and supports clients with preparation and integration for spiritual experiences alongside everyday habits that actually stick.   Key takeaways:   The body keeps score: recurring pain, cycles, and fatigue can be early signals to pause, listen, and respond with care—not shame. Healing is integrated work: mind tools (reflection), body tools (sleep, movement, sobriety), and soul tools (meaning, service) must align. Gratitude is training, not a mood: three specific gratitudes daily rewire attention toward what's working without denying hard emotions. Forgiveness is self-liberation: it's about releasing stored anger and reclaiming power—not excusing harm. Grounding prevents bypass: meditation, nutrition, alcohol-free living, and nightly review keep “love and light” tethered to real life. Boundaries are love in action: compassion and clear limits can co-exist; say no to protect healing. Integration matters: after any peak spiritual insight, convert it into small daily practices or it fades. Meaning reframes pain: asking “What is this teaching me?” helps transform experiences into service for others. Curiosity over judgment: with yourself and others, curiosity opens options where judgment shuts them down. Start small today: one minute of breath, one line of gratitude, one honest boundary. Consistency beats intensity.   Connect with the guest  : Website: https://angelgoddesshealing.com/Book: “No More Monsters Under the Bed: Shining Your Light on the Dark” (details on her site)   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? Welcome to another episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu. In this episode, Tom and his co-host Drew jump straight into the thick of current societal and political tensions ripping through America—from digital manipulation and global disinformation, to the divisive battles over identity, gender, and violence. Drawing from recent news cycles and online controversies, Tom and Drew dig into how global powers exploit social media to stoke division, and challenge their audience to ground themselves against the rising tide of emotion-driven narratives dominating discourse today. Together, they dissect the psychology and biology behind polarization, fulfillment, and violent tendencies, weaving insights from neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, and history. They also address why anger is such a motivating force—and such a dangerous one when unchecked—while mapping the intersections of male identity, cultural radicalization, gender roles, and the persistent confusion of contemporary masculinity. Part 1 promises a candid, unflinching look at how our minds, biology, and society collide, and why understanding our “biological experience” is essential to navigating the chaos of the modern world. John Conroy on grounding the political thriller Zero Day

The Cinematography Podcast Episode 325: John Conroy, ASC, ISC For the Netflix six-part political thriller, Zero Day, cinematographer John Conroy, ASC, ISC worked with director Lesli Linka Glatter to create a visual style that felt grounded in reality. Their goal was to make the story, which follows a cyberterrorist attack, feel like it could happen tomorrow. This approach allowed them to focus on the human element and the psychological impact of the events rather than sensationalized drama or violence. John shot all six episodes of the series, a creative choice he found deeply rewarding, although he doesn't feel the need to always be the lead DP. “Ultimately, if you're lucky enough to be shooting, you should feel lucky enough that you're shooting,” he says. “Doing all six was really great because I felt that I could curate the whole look of the show by episode by episode. But if I was only going to do two episodes, I would have enjoyed it just as much.” The cohesive approach was important since they prepped the episodes over 10 weeks as three separate films. John and Glatter shotlisted scenes on weekends, deciding what images would create the most impact for beginnings, transitions and exits for each scene. He made notes in his script to track the desired look, light, and emotion for each scene. John says working with Robert De Niro was a pleasure. “It was one of the privileges of my career to shoot him. And he was very gracious and took notes and was very helpful with the camera crew and overall it was just like a really really good experience.” John found a subtle way to enhance De Niro's performance through lighting and camera tests. “People's faces look different when you light them from one side or the other,” he notes. “I found with Bob that when he was lit from his right hand side, that he looked more severe than when he was lit from the left hand side.” John used this technique in interrogation scenes to emphasize the character's increasing pressure and tension. For more emotional scenes, he lit De Niro from the left to convey a more nuanced and serious tone. Framing each shot was important to the story as well. John always shot De Niro's character, George Mullen, around high doorways and down long hallways, making him seem trapped and under increasing pressure. A key element of the show's look is John's use of single-source lighting, keeping things simple and uncomplicated as much as possible. But he encountered a challenge with the Zero Day Commission offices, whose walls consisted of several layers of glass. John collaborated closely with the set builders to plan his shots and manage the numerous reflections in the office sets. To prevent unwanted double reflections, they created custom black panels to black out panes of glass behind the camera. The lights were cued to dim as actors walked through a shot, controlling reflections. John's passion for cinematography began at an early age, inspired by his father, Jack Conroy, who was also a cinematographer. At just 12, John began loading 16mm film for his father on documentaries and commercials. He then worked as a focus puller until he decided to move into cinematography after working on The DaVinci Code. He and his father were able to work together on the TV series Broadchurch, with Jack shooting second unit. John's current work can be seen on Wednesday Season 2, the upcoming Dune: Prophecy Season 2, and the upcoming Fallout Season 2. Find John Conroy: Instagram: @jccine See Zero Day on Netflix.
