In the words of the late great theologian, Stanley Lieber: "With great power comes great responsibility." Unfortunately, for thousands of years, kings, pharaohs, chiefs, businessmen, presidents, and priests have destroyed paradise to make a palace for themselves. Some even did so in the name of their God. Our world groans and longs for heroes, but they seem hard to find.In Luke 4, a new king arrives and has to make the decision: will he use his great power for himself, or for the others? And it's a moment that will determine the fate of the universe. I was recently invited to speak at Trinity Heights Methodist Church in Flagstaff, AZ, and this is the story I had for us.
