For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail: info@historyofthebay.com--Turf Talk (@new_turf_talk_page) emerged during the Hyphy Movement as one of the most unique voices to come out of the Bay Area. Moving back and forth between Vallejo and SoCal, once he started rapping his dream was to sign with his cousin E-40. That became a reality when his debut album "The Street Novelist" dropped on Sick Wid It Records. He quickly became one of the most popular voices on the West Coast and collaborated with some of the biggest legends of the Bay Area. But just as his career was taking off, a personal tragedy led him to take a long hiatus from rap which he explains here for the first time. Now, Turf Talk is back into music and ready to pick up where he left off.--History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aaOnline Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlAInstagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_oneTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_oneTwitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_oneFacebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone41500:00 The Bay to SoCal04:13 Vallejo family ties 08:58 The streets / the music14:50 Jamie Foxx 18:02 Developing style22:28 Signing to Sick Wid It28:30 Drug case32:35 “The Street Novelist”36:51 “Hubba Rock” w/ Mac Dre43:35 Hyphy Movement, “West Coast Vaccine”48:13 “My Ghetto Report Card”51:16 Collaborations55:55 Hiatus from rap1:05:07 Upcoming music

In this episode, I get into the impact of taking an extended break from podcasting and how it affects your show's growth, audience engagement, and completion rates. Here are the main takeaways:I discuss a situation where a podcast grew to 500 downloads per episode but lost half its audience after taking a year-long break. Even with improved audio quality and more polished episodes after returning, both downloads and completion rates suffered.Consistency is key. I emphasize how taking long breaks can significantly set you back, comparing it to putting your finger in a leaky bucket – once you take it out, the water (your audience) drains away.Switching to a biweekly episode schedule can help maintain consistency if that's all you can manage with your workload, but it may slow growth. If you notice completion rates dropping, it's a sign something may not connect with your current content. Sometimes we're too close to our own work, so getting outside feedback is crucial.I suggest finding a friend or colleague who matches your target audience to get honest feedback on your episodes.Numbers don't lie! For over three years, the Outdoor Minimalist platform has been a big part of my existence and growth as a creative and journalist. I've put a lot into the show, especially this year when we added a Friday episode about public lands. But I need a break. With the recent passing of my dog, Ash, I need time to process and grieve the loss of my best friend and biggest inspiration. Ash is the reason I was able to write my book, create two podcasts, and chase my dreams. He walked beside me, quite literally, every single day for the last eight years. That said, we aren't ending the show, but for now, we're on pause. Ash's strength and propensity for motion until the very end will continue to inspire me. He loved our public lands and wild spaces more than anyone else I know. So, in the meantime, I'm going outside to grieve and recharge so I can live to fight another day to protect the spaces we so cherished in our life together. If you've enjoyed the show up until this point and want to show us some love, consider leaving us a review on Apple Podcasts. Stay tuned for more to come.
Hiatus!Special thanks to Misty, Dona, Nichell, Carol Starr, Jennifer Love, Miriam, Melanie, and Everclear.com, the best advisor platform made yet....to be continued! (Or at least updated)
We had to take a little Hiatus!!!!! Just too many irons in the fire to schedule things the last couple of weeks. Hopefully you enjoy but we for sure had to knock some of the rust off.
After 5+ years without missing a scheduled episode (outside of when I went weekly to bi-weekly) and well over 200 pieces of content, it's time I took a bit of a break. This is not a decision that was easy to make, and I don't even know what this looks like, but I can confidently say that this is not the end of Force Five.First off, I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has listened over the years. The messages and emails warmed my heart every time, even if it was just to tell me that you disagreed with me or I made a mistake on a show, because it meant you listened and cared enough to reach out. A special thanks to those who have donated to the Patreon, some of you through both iterations. I feel a special sense of responsibility to you for your support.Second, I wanted to explain my decision, but I'll start with this - everything is fine. Health is good (as far as I know), family is good. What it comes down to is that I've just kind of lost the spark to put my everything into the show and I don't want it to suffer because of it. I think this happens with most hobbies. Sourcing guests, watching movies, taking notes, writing intros and ads, editing, posting, and social media all take a lot of time and I don't enjoy some of that stuff (editing and social media, in particular). With my kid getting into sports and a home remodel taking up most of my time after my day job, it leaves little time for the show planning and prep and even less time for my other hobbies, which include trying to sell a screenplay.I've always looked at this show as my creative outlet, but it might be time to switch that outlet up, even if it's just tweaking it. Transparently, I don't know what that looks like - I've been kicking around transitioning to YouTube, different types of videos (reviews, physical media stuff, etc.). I'm still figuring that out. I still plan on doing Top 5 lists too, I have some annual ones that I want to keep going, including my top 5 physical media releases of the year and top 5 films of 2025, I might just be expanding and contracting parts of my portfolio.I've enjoyed making this show for you and I want to continue making things to put out into the world that get people excited about movies. If you're subscribed to Force Five on your podcast feeds, I'd ask that you stay subscribed - it costs you nothing and that way when I do post the next thing, you'll be notified.Jason

Greetings, initiates. #13 here. You are expecting an episode of the Ancient Order of the Jackalope, the secret society/podcast about uncovering hidden stories and sharing them with the world, and I am here to explain why you're not getting one. I have a lot of stuff going on in my life right now. You don't need to know what it all is, you just need to know that it's not all good. I had thought I was coping with everything quite well, and then I had a moment that made it very clear that I was not really coping at all. Looking back, I could see this has been a problem for a while. I have been setting myself up for a massive spectacular meltdown, and I have been lucky that it has been averted. Long story short, I need to step back from almost everything that I'm doing and try to set a path forward. Hopefully one that doesn't lead to inevitable burnout, stress-related ulcers, and sleepless nights. Everything includes this podcast. Now, it isn't not going away. It's just going on hiatus for a short while. In fact, I'll will guarantee you that right now there will be an episode of this podcast in the first week of January 2026. Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye. Until then, I need to rest and relax and reprioritize and that's exactly what I'm going to do. Hopfelly when I see you in January I will be a happier, healthier #13. Until then, maybe you could go listen to some other podcasts. The Constant is always great, it's hard to go wrong there. Or on any show with Michael Hobbes on it, like Maintenance Phase or If Books Could Kill. Maybe Lateral or No Such Thing as a Fish? Our Fake History or Imperfect Men or Pontifacts? You have hundreds of great options. We'll be back. Until then, remember: that which is least known, is best to know.

After taking an unplanned break from the podcast, I'm back :) with more life lived, more lessons learned, and more permission to change my mind as I grow. In this episode, I'm sharing some major life updates... what it looked like going from one to two kids, moving from CO to NC four months postpartum (whose idea was that?!?), and navigating the very real emotional rollercoaster of toddlerhood, all while I do my best to stay grounded, regulated, and human. This isn't a “here's how to do it perfectly” conversation. It's more “here's what's real, here's what's messy, and here's what's been helping.” If you've ever felt like you're rebuilding yourself in real time — let's walk the path together. Just a quick episode to tell you that my health crisis has reached a climax and I am headed to a major surgery that will undoubtedly change my life.I'm sorry I'm having to stop the podcast at this moment . . . but what a moment we got to: the apex of Virgil's time in the poem. Maybe that's a fitting moment for me to take a break, too.I hope to be back with the poem in perhaps six weeks. Time will tell how I heal. In the meantime, I wish you smooth walking on whatever paths you must traverse in this life as we all make our own ways across the known universe.
Dolly Parton BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Dolly Parton has been in the headlines repeatedly over the past several days, but not for the reasons fans were hoping. The most significant story is that the country icon has stepped out of the spotlight and postponed her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency due to ongoing health challenges. On September 29, Dolly went directly to her fans via Instagram to say that, while she had dearly hoped to perform this December at Caesars Palace, doctors' orders meant she needed some “procedures,” and she joked about getting her “100,000 check-up,” making clear her usual sense of humor is intact. She assured everyone that she is not retiring and that, in her words, “God hasn't said anything about stopping yet,” but she does need to slow down, rest, and make sure she is at her best before she returns to the stage. The new dates for “Dolly: Live in Las Vegas” have been rescheduled for September 2026. Meanwhile, her absence has shifted the balance in Vegas, with Tim McGraw stepping in to headline The Colosseum with “Tim McGraw: Live in Vegas” during the National Finals Rodeo in December, covering several slots originally reserved for Dolly. That has added a surprise twist to Vegas entertainment news and plenty of buzz on country music social media, with fans expressing both their support for Dolly and excitement for Tim's run. Parton has also pulled out of several other public commitments: she missed a major appearance at Dollywood, where she was to unveil a first-of-its-kind attraction, NightFlight Expedition, set to debut in 2026. The theme park went ahead with the reveal, though they offered no details about her absence at the time, fueling further speculation and a wave of get-well messages online. Additionally, she withdrew from a scheduled Governors Awards appearance, again citing health concerns, which has only intensified public concern and media analysis of her wellbeing. Despite her recent withdrawal from the public eye, her influence is undimmed. Major media outlets have recapped her business empire, spotlighting Dollywood's continued growth—recently ranked the No. 1 theme park in the U.S by Tripadvisor and valued at around $165 million—and her enduring philanthropic footprint, especially the Imagination Library. Social media has been thick with tributes, encouragement, and fans sharing Dolly's messages of resilience matched by her signature warmth. In terms of major headlines, the top stories are “Dolly Parton Postpones Las Vegas Residency Amid Health Battle” and “Tim McGraw Steps In for Dolly Parton at Caesars Palace.” Public speculation about the specifics of her health is rife, but no verified new details have emerged beyond Dolly's own statements. For now, the Queen of Country music remains very much in her fans' thoughts, even as she takes the rest she's so clearly earned.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

Hello friends and fans! Lowri here – you may know me as the voice of Celia. I hope you have been enjoying The Magnus Protocol! Episode 50 marks the end of Act 2 of season 2 and, as with season one, we now have a pre-planned break in the show's release schedule. 2025 has been an incredible year at Rusty Quill, and the rest of the year has even more packed into it. This means that the breaks between acts are longer than previously, as we balance the workloads of our small team. That said, we have some very exciting things to share with you before Act 3, including a brand-new official 6-episode spin-off of The Magnus Protocol: Sheeple Chase, which you can listen to right here on the Magnus feed. Sheeple Chase, written by Sasha Sienna and directed by April Sumner, was a stretch goal unlocked during the Kickstarter campaign that funded Protocol – thank you to everyone who donated and made this possible! This fictional podcast, set prior to the events of The Magnus Protocol, is hosted by conspiracy enthusiast Georgie Barker and faux-sceptic Celia Ripley. In each episode, one of the hosts will present a conspiracy theory, before discussing the “evidence” for and against. However, will Celia's ulterior motives and Georgie's growing paranoia put the podcast in jeopardy? Not only that, but we are hard at work behind the scenes developing Magnus Live: The Hilltop – a fully-staged, two-act play debuting in London this October. The Hilltop, which is written and directed by Alexander J Newall, will feature fan-favourite characters from The Magnus Archives and The Magnus Protocol. Rehearsals are underway and everything from costumes to set design and backdrops are being worked on by members of the RQ team. While tickets for the show are sold out, we have secured a professional videographer team to film and produce a recording of the play. We'll share more information on the distribution of this at a later date. As we're getting towards the end of the year and ever closer to the holiday season, you may be on the lookout for gifts for your loved ones, or maybe just for yourself! There's plenty of amazing official Magnus merchandise available, including handcrafted wooden dice trays, dice towers and more from Harps Corp, bespoke “Jon & Martin” and “Ex Altiora” perfume scents from Sucreabeille, and even a limited-edition Magnus microphone from Sontronics – perfect for your first foray into podcasting. Find all these and more by visiting our website: rustyquill.com/support Thank you so much for being here and listening to our shows – your enthusiasm for everything we create means the world to us. An extra super special thank you to our paid subscribers on Patreon whose donations go directly back into creating Rusty Quill Original podcasts. The Magnus Protocol will return in 2026. Thanks for listening. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
[TDE Client Case Study] Starting over in business after success in a previous niche can feel frustrating, humbling, and even impossible at times. That's exactly where Danielle Robin found herself after years as a relationship coach. After navigating her own major life transition, Danielle knew she wanted to pivot into helping women in their 30s and 40s recover from long-term breakups—but she was stuck on how to position herself in this new version of her business. She had the experience. She had the drive. But what she didn't have was clear messaging that set her apart. Inside The Distinctive Edge (TDE), Danielle rediscovered her voice, clarified her story, and began marketing in a way that felt authentic and compelling. In this client case study episode of Business Not As Usual, you'll hear: Why messaging is the missing link when pivoting into a new niche. The difference between standing out in 2017 vs. today's coaching industry (and why the “game has changed”). How Danielle went from being paused for 9 months to sending her first emails, posting again on Instagram, and signing clients. Why taking the program at her own pace actually accelerated her breakthroughs. The unexpected wins she celebrated—like finally launching her Substack after sitting on it for nearly a year. Danielle's story is proof that you don't need all the stars to align to start signing clients. Even in a pivot, even if you've been “off” for a while—you can rebuild, reignite your confidence, and create a business that reflects where you are now.
Ep 317: The show is back. I'll be discussing losing faith in myself and how self-doubt can manifest in various forms. We will cover self-care, boundaries, and how to prioritize what you desire in your addiction recovery. Long-time listeners, you will notice my rambunctious nature here. Newcomers, not all episodes flow like this, and this here is an opportunity to speak raw and real with you all about how my addiction recovery, though 8+ years strong, has its peaks and canyons just like everyone's life has. As I say in this episode, it's not sobriety that sucks; sometimes it's just life kicking and kicking, and we gotta regroup or else lose our grip. ******************************************** Are you enjoying the show?
