Pastor Martin preaches on the importance of asking questions.
Questions - Luke 13Verses 1-5:1. Was the wickedness of Pilate the punishment for the sins of those Galileans?2. Were the sins of the eighteen the cause of the tower in Siloam to fall on, and kill, them?3. Do you think that people today are punished in proportion to their sins?4. What was Jesus' response to the assumed attitude of the crowd? What was important to him?5. What does it mean to repent?6. What do you think Jesus meant by "likewise perish"?7. How can we apply Jesus' warning to our own life ("unless you repent you will all likewise perish")?Verses 6-9:1. In this parable (Luke 13), who/what does the fig tree represent?2. Who does the owner of the vineyard represent? The vinedresser?3. In the parable, why would the owner want to cut down the fig tree?4. And why would the vinedresser want to delay the cutting?5. What condition is attached to the delay?6. Considering the history of Israel, what was the result of that delay? (Hint: What historical event occurred in A.D. 70?)7. What is the Holy Spirit saying to us?

This Sunday we’ll be reading the conclusion of Jesus’ Sermon on the Plain, reading Luke 6:39-49. Jesus shoots off a series of parables (NLT translates them as illustrations) – but in reality, they are humorous riddles. Some of the imagery used is intentionally funny, and if you are uncomfortable imagining Scripture with a sense of humor, I don’t know what to do for you.By starting with a question – can the blind lead the blind? – we are invited into an exercise in self-examination. Who am I following, who am I examining, what is my life producing and on what am I founding my life-choices? These become crucial questions we must ask ourselves to determine where we are on this journey of following Christ. In what way might we be blind to God’s purposes? In thinking of guides, who can we think of who knows God’s intent more than any other person? How can we use Jesus as a guide and still listen to other teachers? Is it difficult or easy for you to deal with your own issues before ever trying to correct others? How can we change our habits in this area, if focusing on others is our go-to response? These are some of the things we’ll be considering in our study. Hope you can join us – in person or online at 10 AM on Sunday morning!Click here for a pdf of the teaching slideshow.
The two most important questions that everyone must answer are "who is Jesus?" and "what are you going to do about it?" When we answer those question correctly, everything changes. In fact, because a small group of people got those 2 questions right the world was changed. The movement of disciples that Jesus started showed incredible resiliency in the face of war, persecution, plague, and martyrdom because they got those questions right. They were not only resilient, they regenerated and reproduced whenever it got hard.

Greetings. In this week's episode, I answer questions that you sent in over the past month. All these answers are my own understandings and how I perceive each topic respectively. They are not meant to proclaim a foundational or absolute truth. I also answered these questions without a full and length study or preparation, so allow for this broad approach to be sufficient for this purpose! In this talk we get a masterclass from Jesus in tackling questions designed to catch us out. He wasn’t afraid to engage with his critics, but always left them considering the greatest question of all.
