This podcast features higher ed faculty and course designers using creative approaches to enhance students’ learning experiences and turn engagement “ON”
This very special episode of the podcast was recorded during a session of the Lerner College's Research & Teaching Showcase at the University of Delaware, coordinated by our Deputy Dean Dr. Sheryl Kline. Among other staff and faculty, Drs. Julia Bayuk, Andrea Everard, Ali Poorani, Max Dolinsky, and Amanda Bullough share practices that generate engagement.
This episode is a rebroadcast of my second interview on one of my favorite podcasts, Tea for Teaching (https://teaforteaching.com/). I highly recommend Tea for Teaching, as I've learned so much from both the hosts John Kane and Rebecca Mushtare and their guests and implemented some of the ideas in my own classroom. This episode features our discussion of my experiential learning capstone courses, their design and outcomes.

I'm Kathryn Berkow and I'd like to introduce the second season of “ON” a podcast about cultivating student engagement in higher ed. This podcast celebrates that “ON” feeling when students are learning in your classroom and the material is engaging, inclusive, and effective. This season starts on September 13th and includes interviews with some of my role models for course excellence, a live panel event on small teaching practices that can increase engagement, and rebroadcasts of my interviews on one of my favorite higher ed podcasts, Tea for Teaching. I hope you enjoy the variety of discussions, all aimed at engaging our students, including topics like cultivating community, challenging our understanding of the status quo, and focusing on the meaning of our work. If you're interested in student engagement in higher ed, please subscribe to the podcast to let me know you want to hear more! If there's interest, I'll keep developing this platform for sharing engagement ideas from the brilliant faculty members around me. Thanks for listening!
A panel of University of Delaware students joins the podcast to discuss what's going well and how we can improve our courses as we move toward another semester of uncertainty and into the future; Shivani, Cara, and Ryan share their dos and don'ts for course design and student engagement as we look forward to 2021
Dr. Ellen Monk, Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems at the University of Delaware, joins us to discuss the impact of dividing a large class session into smaller group meetings for asking and answering questions, working on practice exercises, and fostering a stronger sense of community in a virtual setting

Paige Gee, Instructor of Accounting at the University of Delaware, joins us to discuss her strategies for engaging students during live sessions while remote teaching and the ways remote teaching has changed her plans for classroom engagement going forward
Erin Sicuranza, IT Project Leader and Course Designer at the University of Delaware, joins us to discuss high impact practices for online course design and the elements of remote teaching that will impact our teaching in the future
