Overrated is a London based brainchild of two enthusiasts who have known each other for more than they care to admit. With the help of surrounding peers, they present the overrated podcast and events series. With influences that stretch across the musical spectrum and chucking genre snobbery to the…
This was one of the first people Shayn started following on SoundCloud and he's been hooked ever since. Needless to say, his music is a real mix of lazy, electronic moods and we couldn't wait to ask him to join the podcast series. With releases on Defected, Neovinyl recordings, Soulshift music & Midnight recordings, among a heap of others, this guy has been round the block. Hailing from the Netherlands. Enter. Lorenzo Kurizu
A hero on productions and a hero behind the decks. This is 2 hours of pure groove from a man that has been behind some great tracks on labels including Music is Love, Underground Source Records, Needa Records & Seven Music. Think jazz, think funk, think flavour, think Jackmaster K
Some would better recognise Caspa for his long standing residency with London base party hub, Percolate. Others may be familiar with the early radio work he was part of in the early 90s playing at stations including, Pressure Fm, RinseFm, De-javu & Unknown Fm. With over two decades of experience behind the turntables, Caspa is without a doubt one of the most diverse taste makers on the circuit. With influences that cross genres of Garage, Jungle, House, Techno and everything in between, his sets are never boring! Enter. DJ Caspa
Leftback records head honcho, Dudley, gives our ears the run around with this deep & groovy, yet minimal set. Dudely has a true ability to put a contemporary spin on deep, acidic and tech house. An impressive catalogue of music, you'll see Strangeways signed to labels including, Moda Black, Back To You, Klasse, Holic Trax, Albion, Large Music & of course his own imprint along with Michael McLardy, Leftback. Initially consolidating his reputation as a resident of the notorious Back To The Future parties at Nottingham’s Stealth, he is also resident for 52:50 based in the Midlands, but is no stranger to the likes of Sankeys and the big smoke. Having played alongside the likes of Jordan Peak, Terry Francis, Phil Weeks, Eddie Richards and Brett Johnson, Dudley is certainly part of the A team.
An unknown quantity, a shadow in the night, a whistle in the wind. Enter. Silent Listener
The twelfth episode brings in an incredible talent. A true taste maker with an eclectic record collection, this is an extra special, exclusive all (but one) vinyl set put together by the Lost My Dog head honcho himself. Lost My Dog Records has seen signings including the likes of SEK, Roland Nights & Dale Howard. Pete also presents the Lost My Dog radio show each month which showcases a heap of talent including releases from the label. With incredible releases himself on labels including his own imprint and of course Phil Week's Robsoul Records, Pete has an array of experience which we are proud to showcase. You can catch Pete Dafeet playing the next Overrated instalment in the basement of Plan B, on 22nd November >>> https://www.facebook.com/events/279968665460083/
Chew The Fat!, Midnight Love Club, Underground Source Records, White Widow Records, All Over It Records.....Need we say more? Playing a blend of deep & bouncy influenced house, Spike has supported the likes of Huxley and MK and it's no surprise why. There's nothing more to say. Turn it up.
A firm favourite of ours back at HQ and a big hit amongst the likeminded party folk. Daniel's had releases on labels such as Assembly Records, Made Fresh Daily and of course Jamie Trench's own imprint, Roots For Bloom. Having shared the lineup with Daniel in the past, we can tell you first hand that music comes naturally to him and that his performance out on the tiles is something not to be missed. With a whole heap of mixes under his belt, including sets for Jamie's Roots For Bloomcast, Rinse FM...and now of course, Overrated!
The Pleasure Centre, Shanta Love Club, Somethinksounds, The Love Below & Road to Nowhere. For the 9th instalment we present to you an old friend of ours - A true team player and someone who has been part of many a party. If it's pure shake your booty vibes your after, then look no further than the ultimate Vibe Merchant. The pleasure's all ours...
For the latest in the series, we welcome the head honcho of Tahanan & the newest addition to Chicago's very own, Large Music. No stranger to keeping it fresh, we couldn't be happier to welcome; Lee Clarke.
Diving into the mind of another Footwork resident, we let ourselves go with episode 7. Absolutely thumping from the very start, we can see that Salmon has certainly got his forward thinking house hat on... If you have ever had the pleasure of hearing one of his sets out, then you'll know what we're talking about. If you haven't, more fool you. Let the music do the talking...
Originally from Edinburgh with a residency at Lulu's leading on to regular slots at Cabaret Voltaire, Why Not, Beat and the Electric Circus. Through this period Alemanni honed his skills, dropping bouncy house tracks that lit and continue to light up the dance floor. Now currently residing in Northampton, Alemanni is taking his time to explore new sounds to aid new musical directions.
A wild card on the DJ circuit in the south west, Mitch Aaron Smith aka Bitchy Mitch is traditionally a Disco enthusiast who would frequently incorporate 70s rare groove to a bewildered funky house crowd. Serving up something a little different, we present the 5th edition... Volume & surfs up!
Some would argue the second in command of the overrated outfit... He would argue, he's the first - it's an ongoing debate. Growing up in Enfield, North London it's no surprise that there's a Garage feel to his music coupled with that Disco vibe, pulling inspiration from the likes of Zinc and EZ to old 70s producers. A frustrating person to work with, but an absolute joy at the same time always ready to bounce a few records at the drop of a hat.
Another suspect of the Footwork franchise. With his residency at the growing club night, Matt has had the great fortune to play at the likes of, Ministry of Sound and share line ups alongside top names such as DJ Zinc. With an early party partnership alongside Overrated's, Shayn, Matt has continued to grow his sound and light up the tiles, which is undoubtedly evident from this exclusive set put together for us.
A regular at MK’s prolific Footwork and Trapped events, the second series of the overrated podcast comes from someone who’s no stranger to laying it down and certainly an individual who’s not afraid to try something special behind the decks. With a perfected sound over the last few years, Hignell has certainly become a crowd favourite.
To kick start the birth of the overrated podcast, we call upon one half of the overrated outfit with this carefully crafted set. With his first release out on MLP Music already, there will inevitably be more to come in the not so distant future from this young gun, so watch this space.
