TRUE HOUSE STORIES® W/ SAM DIVINE # 104 Sam Divine is a DJ that knows exactly what to play and when to play it. The hours she spent rifling through vinyl in the warehouse of Chemical Records, where Sam once worked as a house buyer, gives her an insurmountable understanding of the genre. Having played nearly every club in Ibiza – including residencies at Ushuaia, Amnesia and Sankeys – and landed at top-end festivals, there are few who can offer a house music education like Sam Divine. Last year, she racked up over a hundred gigs and is well on track to exceed that in 2017, having already hit up the likes of Europe, North America and Asia. And her reputation for energising a dancefloor has been acknowledged by her inclusion in Pete Tong's Selector Series for Radio 1. A late starter, Sam took up DJing at 21 – learning to mix in her mum's garden shed. Her breakthrough came soon after with a DJ competition and landed her first residency at a club in Weston-super-Mare, where she was also the main booker, while also working in record stores. In 2005, after swapping Bristol for Ibiza, Sam became a vital component of San Antonio's west end (where this year she makes a triumphant return as a resident for Defected at Eden) and has spent every season on the White Isle ever since. During this time, Divine also began working with Defected, who in 2009 signed her to their artist roster. A weekly warm-up at Mambo ensued, opening for legendary names like Kenny Dope and Frankie Knuckles, as well as hosting the weekly Defected Radio show that currently holds the #2 spot on iTunes in the UK Music Podcasts chart. The real turning point, however, came when she played We Are FSTVL in 2013. “I dropped a mix the night before and everyone went mad for it; the tent went from nothing to one-in-one-out within half an hour,” she explains. “After that, the bookings just went nuts.” With her tireless work ethic, this summer, Sam will play Tomorrowland, Eastern Electrics, Defected Croatia, SW4, and Creamfields. This year also marks the 10-year anniversary of La Vita, the annual DJ charity night that she helped to launch and has so far raised £35,000 for Breast Cancer Research. Sam also launched her own label D-Vine Sounds back in 2015, which this year she will showcase with a stage at We Are FSTVL, dates in Ibiza and a boat party at Defected Croatia. Recently, Sam has also begun to flirt with production; her first major release, a remix of garage anthem ‘Flowers' with production partner Curtis Gabriel, hit #1 on both Traxsource and Beatport. Last year's ‘Confessions' was her first release on Defected, while her ‘Sam Divine In The House' compilation featured further productions and went #1 on iTunes' Dance chart. This summer she dropped ‘In Da Nation' EP with Cassimm on DFTD. Sam Divine's work ethic has seen her more than earn her stripes on the scene. A dedicated army of fans now spreads across the globe as her uplifting house sets captivate audiences everywhere she takes to the booth. With an unwavering love of music and tireless dedication to her craft, Sam is living proof you can achieve pretty much anything you set your mind to – and no one can hold her back.

Incoming, today we premiere new music from one of the cities finest DJs, Sarah Lennox, as she contributes her latest track entitled 'Twisted', to Italian label Prospect Records, as part of their 10 track Various Artist compilation. Sarah Lennox has been involved in Dublin's music scene behind the decks for over ten years now, reminiscing back to her residencies on Pirate Radio and her ‘Sauce' residency in one of Dublin's most iconic venues, The Kitchen. She has gone to become a festival regular in Ireland, performing the likes of Life Festival, Mass Festival, also becoming a resident artist at Fuinneamh Festival. Combine this with being a resident for the well known Secret Society, she has built quite a reputation for herself. Going further afield Sarah has also been invited abroad to play at the likes of Ministry of Sound & EGG in London, Sankeys in Ibiza and even Elrow Town Festival! Sarah's production began in 2017 with a string of releases on labels like Day & Night, 69 Street Records and Playground. Since then she has gone back under the radar to further develop her sound and refine herself into a prominent artist with a hunger to produce her own brand of heavy, grooving basslines with powerful synths. Back in May of this year Sarah started to put brand new music out again, released her huge track ‘Kaleidoscope' with Full Tec Recordings, making it clear that the Dublin producer was very much back in the studio ready to start releasing music once more. Today, Sarah contributes her excellent big room track 'Twister', to the Italian label Prospect Records, as part of their 10 track 'Phased & Confused' Various Artist compilation. Sarah Lennox is a name that has been constantly popping up around Dublin for a number of years. With a massive CV of experience that outweighs most selectors in the country, and her flawless sets that consist of high energy sounds, she has more than proved herself a worthy artist in Dublin’s scene that has stood the test of time. Sarah Lennox has been involved in Dublin’s music scene behind the decks for over ten years now, reminiscing back to her residencies on Pirate Radio and her ‘Sauce’ residency in one of Dublin’s most iconic venues, The Kitchen. Since then she has gone back under the radar to further develop her sound and refine herself into a prominent artist with a hunger to produce her own brand of heavy, grooving basslines with powerful synths. Her latest track ‘Kaleidoscope’ which is out today, is a full bodied emotional track with a fabulous groove and dark warehouse energy which makes it perfect for a wide range of sets. This is a track we expect to hear in many different sets and mixes across the summer. It has the perfect mixture of hypnotic grooving drums, modulated synth and a reverb which emulates a warehouse space sending the listener into state or reminiscence about days spent at festivals. I got to have a chat with Sarah about the release and her music along with her thoughts about being one of Dublin’s, if not Ireland's most respected females artists in the scene. Music from my musical heroes Stephan Bodzin, Mark Romboy, Tiga, James Holden, Joe Goddard, Steve Bug, Josh Wink, Shed and many many many more. Big Big Love continues to defy my expectations with so many new people listening and supporting the mixes. Thank you everyone around the world for listening. I don't produce as much as I used to. Although considered a breakthrough artist in recent times, Rudosa has been a standout talent for a commendable period in underground circles. Since first announcing his arrival on the scene well over a decade ago, he has carved out a definitive sonic palette that has understandably brought its fair share of kudos from both industry specialists and club-goers alike. This wholehearted peer support has led to international tours not only around the UK and Europe, but further afield to India, a domain well-known for its love of robust underground techno music. During today’s podcast, we sit down with Mark aka Rudosa to gain some perspective on his journey, his approach to producing Techno and a deep dive into his musical world beyond Rudosa which includes his own school ‘Make Me A DJ’. Towards the end of the podcast, Mark also enlightens us to his current perspective on lockdown and the opportunity for the local intimate scene and venues once lockdown begins to open. Show Notes: www.YourMusicIndustry.com/post/rudosa Highlights From This Episode: [0:00] We catch-up with Rudosa and understand how he’s been finding lockdown. [1:05] Rudosa enlightens us to his yearly structure by allowing specific time for writing music. He also breadcrumbs us as to how he approaches writing tracks, which we dive deeper into later on in the show. [5:45] Where does Rudosa draw musical influences from? Mark introduces us as to how genres like Trance from when he was 15 still influence his sound and music today. [9:25] Back at its peak, Rudosa was a resident at the legendary Sankeys in Manchester and the story of how he landed this slot was quite organic and natural. Mark offers his experience and thoughts on why it worked and what upcoming DJs & Artists can learn from it on how to get more DJ gigs and residencies. [19:47] Rudosa breaks down his 'Be In The Moment' Remix for the Liverpool based KUSP (UK) lads and introduces to not only his workflow in the studio but also his thoughts on the ‘Rudosa’ sound that he’s still fine-tuning today. [25:11] Mark lets us into his current perspective on techno and the current trends and how he’s balancing making what he likes and entertains him but also creating fresh sounding tracks. [28:22] Lately, Mark's been buying more music from Bandcamp so we compare Beatport and Bandcamp for a moment and how Bandcamp now feels like falling down the rabbit hole of discovering new music. [31:58] A big dream of a lot of artists is to go full-time in music and that means making enough to pay the bills, Rudosa not only pays the bills by means of Rudosa music, gigs and merchandise but also his own DJ School called ‘Make Me A DJ’. In this section he enlightens us to this world and how it’s supported him in many ways including financially. [35:34] Other than Make Me A DJ, how does Rudosa make money as an artist - and what are the biggest income streams? Mark introduces us to his own artist income blueprint. [40:10] “The UK Club scene will open before international travel”, Rudosa cleverly offers us some insight into his current position on his plans for post-lockdown. [42:01] Looking to the future, what change would Rudosa like to see in the dance music industry in the next 3-5 years? Rob Tissera has been on the scene since the early beginnings of house music in 1988. His musical journey started whilst attending illegal acid house parties around the M25, where he was a regular at the Back to the future & Sunrise parties. This inspired him to take up the art of DJing. After moving up north, Rob learned his trade by playing on the pirate radio stations in Blackburn. This lead to him playing at some of the legendary illegal raves throughout the early nineties. He remains one of the only DJ's in history to be put in jail for these exploits. He served 3 months in 1991 for incitement to riot. This was the springboard for his entire career as promoters clambered over themselves to book him.Rob was a resident DJ at two of the north's very best events ARK and Bowlers. He has also been a monthly resident for Club UK, The leisure Lounge, Sunnyside Up, Golden, Gatecrasher, Sundissential, Fantazia, Resurrection, Garlands, Since then, he not only travelled the world as an international house and hard house DJ but was also a founding father of the club phenomenon Kissdafunk. The Terrace Podcast Presents a Special Guest from The Desolat Family : Episode 175: Yaya In the era of digital revolution, the geography of individual stories draws the lines which blend cultures, lifestyles and different rhythms. Yaya's geography unravels on three essential cardinal points: Benin, where the roots of his African blood come from, Torino and Ibiza, places of training and achievements. Within Yaya's electronic work, the echoes of his aphrodisiac background, of a clearly tribal African nature, mix with the sunny Balearic rhythms of new house, deepened through several summers in Ibiza. Yaya grew up in Torino, in the resonant Babylon which was his home, where the rhythms of his father's drums, singer and leading voice of the renowned group M'bamina, ensemble lining up Italian musicians coming from Zaire, Cameroon and Benin, prophesied a multi-ethnic Italy. With rhythm in his blood, Yaya approaches the sound turmoil which is setting the kinetic nights of Torino's underground on fire and falls in love with electronic music. Like a child lost in the minimal wave overcoming the techno house scores, Yaya spent his summers in the mid 2000s within Ibiza's electronic ferment. On the white Island his vivacity lead him to play at several afterhours and his musical assertiveness, reflecting his heterogeneous origins, allowed him to be noticed by the enterpreneurs of the white island's big electronic circus. An electronic mix combining a full commitment towards all techno house dialogue's horizons seasoned with tribal influences soaked with an intrusive sound of Italian demand: this is the identikit of the afro-sabaudian lion's sound. Yaya became part of the Zoo Project in the summer of 2009; the following winter, on Friday nights next to the river Po, Yaya's roar sets the nights on fire during his slot at Savana Potente. In the afternoons, Yaya spends hours mixing synths of his hybrid sound, storing up a vast library of tracks. The arias of Yaya's scores reach the ears of Loco Dice, who falls in love with the Afro Latin rumba of Fresca de l'Agua and decides to record the Vecute ep. Yaya thus becomes part of the Desolat family. In December 2009 Do you know Telespalla? is his track in the Desolat X Sampler, double vinyl signed by all the artists of the German academy: Loco Dice, Martin Buttrich, tINI, Guti, Livio & Roby. In 2010, thanks to Desolat and Zoo project, Yaya lands in the big meccas of European electronic music: Miami Music Conference, Sonar Barcelona, Fabric London, the Iarmaroc Fest in Romania, the Bermuda festival in Berlin, Goa in Barcelona , Sankeys in Manchester, Mint in Leeds, Silo in Liverpool, Mad in Lousanne, Cocoricò, Magazzini Generali in Italy... In the 2010 summer season in Ibiza, Yaya plays weekly with his residency at the Zoo Project, at the We Love Savana Potente at Space on August 15, and at Ushuaia at the tINI & the gang during Desolat's Wednesday. During Autumn 2010 Yaya spends his weekends alternating between the Independent Republic of Savana Potente, his gigs around Europe and playing often with Loco Dice around Italy. For Christmas 2010 Loco Dice puts the second Desolat X Sampler under the tree in the Desolat offices of Hoffeld Strasse in Dusseldorf: Talk to your heart is Yaya's track, which fulfills the work of the Desolat ensemble, set up by Dice, Martin Buttrich, Guti, Livio & Roby and which features the collaboration of big names with guests such as: Dj Sneak, Frank Roger, George G. ( third member of Prominesku together with Livio & Roby) and Audiofly (who sign their track together with Guti). In 2011, the housedisiac roar of the afro sabaudian lion is ready to make all electronic Europe bounce. www.theterracepodcast.com
