Vessna is super excited to share the first single off this forthcoming record, "BUTTER", (+ the accompanying visualizer) set to release This Friday, September 29th! With mesmerizing vocal harmonies, shimmering 90's to early 2000's synths, and an 80's club backbeat, 'BUTTER' drops you right into the feeling of swooning when you see your crush under the disco ball at the roller rink. Overtaken with feeling, you can't help but brave your skates and make your way over to them, hoping you become 'smooth like butter.' "This song is inspired by a desire to feel playful, fun, sexy, and confident while navigating being a caregiver during the pandemic. I wrote 'BUTTER' inspired by Adult Skate Night (unofficially known as Black Skate Night at rinks throughout the U.S.) as a dreamscape of the freedom found on the rink" Vessna says. Together with her collaborator Lee Clarke, Scheff builds an electrifying current glistening with the anticipation and rush of pushing off the rink wall, and gliding into your confidence.
Dan has been a fan of Moustapha Noumbissi ever since he first heard him on WXPN's Philly Local show. Moustapha talks with Dan about growing up in Belgium, the culture shock of switching to an American school in Upper Darby when he was 7, playing college basketball, always being fascinated by guitar and songwriting, and how a One Direction concert that he was forced to take his sister to changed his life forever. He praises his producer Lee Clarke, his band, and the Philly music community for helping him on this amazing path he's on. Moustapha's latest single, "Heaven", is available wherever you get digital music. He'll be part of Philly Music Fest, which is all week this week around town. Go to Philly Music Fest's website for all the info about this week long fest. Photo credit: John Vettese

Kingsley Ibeneche - "Asked For Light" from the 2022 album Udo on Dirty Deity. Nigerian-American artist Kingsley Ibeneche truly opens his heart on his debut album Udo, which was released last Friday. In a press statement, the full-length is described as an "emotional experience of an empathic person who stays bound to their kin sometimes to the detriment of themselves, but who refuses to give up the quest for elation, personal peace and self-actualization in the process." Today's Song of the Day, in particular, is "very special" to him and his longtime collaborator, Lee Clarke. It's a beautiful, meditative piece, with a plaintively plucked acoustic guitar and serene washes of soul. As he stated on Instagram, "We spent a good amount of time carving and molding the shape of this song. I'm a lucky dude to be able to work with Lee. He has always believed in me and supported me in the fullest way possible. I learn from him up close and from afar." Milton Keynes-based DJ/artist/events promoter Lee Clarke steps up to the Avenue Red Podcast with a tough, driving, deep mix of House music. Lee promotes and is resident at his own night called Tahanan, which first came on our radar around the time of Avenue Red's inception, with this beast of a line-up https://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?481883 that featured Dudley Strangeways and Michael McLardy who did our 3rd podcast episode (https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-003-dudley-strangeways-b2b-michael-mclardy) around that time alongside Tech House heavyweights Terry Francis and Eddie Richards. Lee's Tahanan imprint is also echo'ed on air at Hoxton FM from time-to-time and became a label in February this year with Sek's Drunk Yoga EP. Enjoy the mix everyone, it gets deeper and deeper as it progresses, just how we like it! :D PS. Lee has kindly provided a tracklist that we will put up after the mix get's to 300 plays. https://soundcloud.com/tahananbeats https://www.beatport.com/artist/lee-clarke/427626 https://www.beatport.com/label/tahanan/57374
