This is my humble attempt to introduce this sound on a Wednesday in my city (Madras/Chennai) at this fabulous venue, 365 @ Hyatt Regency. I was quite surprised by the response as the entire set is played between 110 - 115 BPM.. Story behind my set: Pollution & Religious Harmony My set starts with haunting sounds of the deep sea as if to say that the sea world is complaining about the way we humans have polluted their homes. You can hear cries of help & anger from the whales… As the set moves on to the second half, I talk about my upbringing… My father, Jalaluddin Ferozali Shroff was a Muslim (Ismaili), and My Mother, Bharati a Hindu (Konkani, Brahmin). We (Shama (My sis) & me) were brought up to be good human beings first, live in harmony, respect one another and spread love. We would celebrate Diwali, Christmas and Ramzan with the same enthusiasm and excitement as the other. Welcomed everyone to our home without discrimination. Never asked anyone, what religion are you? Sadly, times have changed and so have people.. This is my humble attempt to show people that we can all live together and respect each other as humans and not differentiate by religion. And so my set contains verses of Hindu & Islamic cultures. This set will touch your heart and might make you slightly emotional but I hope it brings a smile to your face. Music has no boundaries. Ive always wanted to play a set with different genres/vibes and try to bring them together. Expect some surprising break downs, emotional moments, fist pumping, face changing bits & of course, many smiles along the way.
When I started listening to Deep House, Techno and everything in between, I was a keen follower of many DJs and the sets they uploaded regularly. I would eagerly wait for their Podcasts.. Stefano Noferini, Eric Paul, Tuhin Mehta, Boiler Room, Techno Live Sets are a few who inspired me. Ever since I started DJing, I always wanted my own Podcast, where I could play music that I loved and sometimes could not play at clubs..
