Giant Mess host Neal Lynch guides you on a whirlwind tour through November's top stories from his personal life and across the country. He explores the significance of Diwali in New Jersey, dives into the latest friendship theories (snail theory?), and discusses deviled egg jello shots. From the Gladiator sequel release to Thanksgiving adventures, he covers it all. There are some hilarious parenting moments, movie marathons, and a photo shoot at the Christmas tree farm. This episode is packed with pop culture, family anecdotes, and seasonal surprises that'll make you wiser, lighter, and maybe even crave a slice of butterscotch banana cream pie. Funny Stories from Giant Mess Podcast - https://bit.ly/GiantMessFunnyStories ABOUT NEAL LYNCH: I'm an Irish-Italian-American who graduated from 1) a Catholic high school (even though I'm not Catholic), and 2) a college known for producing doctors and lacrosse players, then became neither. In this episode, Mark Crego and Terri Petersen explore the universal themes of light and fire as celebrated across diverse cultural, religious, and spiritual traditions. From the twinkling Christmas lights of Christianity to the lamps of Diwali in Hinduism, the menorah of Hanukkah in Judaism, and the kinara of Kwanzaa, light has long symbolized hope, renewal, and the triumph of good over adversity. We delve into how these traditions connect humanity to something greater—be it divine presence, communal unity, or the rhythm of the cosmos. Their conversation spans light and darkness throughout religious and cultural traditions, finding balance between them. Through personal reflections and a deep dive into these global traditions, they uncover shared truths: light as a source of inspiration, fire as a force of transformation, and both as symbols of connection and renewal. Yet, they also address concerns, such as the risks of dualism that pits light against darkness and the potential for hierarchical domination when institutions claim ownership of light. Closing with the warmth of Christmas, they tie these themes together, inviting listeners to embrace light—not to dominate darkness but to foster balance, understanding, and love. This holiday season, let the light you share illuminate not just your home but the lives of those around you!

In this captivating episode of "Reading with Your Kids," host Jed Doherty delves into two fascinating topics - the latest insights on autism and the inspiring Harmony Meets the World book series. First, Jed sits down with Taiba Bajar, the driving force behind Autism Brain Empowerment and the author of "Unlock Autism." Taiba shares her personal journey, from her unexpected career change after being diagnosed with autism and dyspraxia, to her determination to find holistic solutions for her own son's autism journey. Taiba explains the alarming rise in autism diagnoses, attributing it to both increased awareness and a true increase in prevalence. She passionately discusses her "Seven-Step Autism Action Plan," which covers everything from optimizing oxytocin to detoxifying the body and strengthening the cerebellum. Listeners will be inspired by Taiba's dedication and the remarkable progress her son has made through her innovative, personalized approach. The conversation then shifts to the delightful Harmony Meets the World book series, created by twin sisters Erin and Jamie Schonauer. Harmony, the series' young protagonist, uses magical binoculars to travel the globe and explore diverse cultural festivals, from Peru's Inti Raymi to India's Diwali. Erin and Jamie share their love for research and their mission to open children's hearts and minds to new cultures. Listeners will be captivated by the sisters' enthusiasm and the educational yet entertaining nature of their books. Whether you're a parent, educator, or simply someone who cares about the well-being of children, this episode of "Reading with Your Kids" offers a unique blend of insights, inspiration, and cultural exploration. In recognition of Diwali, we are re-airing this episode, which features a conversation between Jennifer Brown and Mita Mallick, Head of Inclusion, Equity and Impact at Carta. Jennifer and Mita discuss the importance of authentic and accurate representation of diverse cultures in the media. The conversation stemmed from a LinkedIn post by Mita about her reaction to the Diwali episode of And Just Like That, a revival of the HBO television series Sex and the City. Mita breaks down the episode, which was described in a Vogue article as a “messy tangle of misnomers and misappropriation.” Mita also discusses the exhaustion many people from marginalized communities feel, and what allies can do to help.

If you're wondering whether we'll ever stop celebrating Halloween and return to honoring our beloved mommas, we have just one more week of spooky fun, as this episode airs on October 31st! While it may seem like we've gone overboard on Halloween this year, it's all in the spirit of Whitney's favorite holiday, filled with delicious food, exciting parties, shocking costumes, and countless family Halloween stories. In this final Halloween celebration episode, we dive into more than just chili and cornbread. We also recount the Diwali celebration that Whitney, Lance, and Momma Ashley attended last weekend—a delightful break from Whitney's month-long Halloween festivities, where she still got to dress up, enjoy incredible Indian cuisine, and learn about this beautiful festival of lights with our dear friends Priya and Momma Amma from this season's Episode 3. Meanwhile, back in Los Angeles, Courtney is gearing up for her massive Halloween party, with RSVPs now exceeding 80 guests. As she reviews the evening's catered menu, Courtney considers only contributing one homemade item...cornbread. But Whitney reminds her of last year's party when dozens of her freshly baked corn muffins went untouched by the “Ozempic Chic” crowd. One thing we know will be a hit is the Skin & Bones Margarita! The sisters also revisit some of their favorite Halloween stories from past episodes, pondering whether the combination of peanut butter on white bread and taco soup is a flavor profile they've been missing. Join us as we indulge in our Halloween obsession for one last week before returning to interviews, new recipes, and, of course, praising all the mommas! Happy Halloween!!! The festivals of Dhanatrayodashi and Diwali, which mark the onset of winter, are believed to be about wealth, but they are actually significant for one's health and wellbeing. In this video, Sadhguru explains that during the winter months, the growing distance between the sun and the earth increases inertia in the human system, especially in the northern hemisphere. He dives deep into how we can make the most of these festivals to beat inertia, and stay vibrant and energetic.
