The Holy Spirit is God's personal presence with us, empowering believers to continue Christ's mission in the world. Just as C.S. Lewis's Aslan breathed life into stone statues, the Spirit transforms us from spiritual statues into living members of God's church. The Spirit empowers us in three key ways: to speak boldly about Jesus in any context, to address sin with grace and gentleness, and to be set apart for God's work in our communities. When we trust in Jesus and step out in obedience, the Spirit leads us and helps us complete His work, bringing life and hope wherever we go.

Jesus of Nazareth stands as the most fascinating person in human history, not just as a historical figure but as the foundation of Christian faith. What makes Him truly remarkable is His dual nature as both fully human and fully divine, His perfect sinless life, His sacrificial death for humanity's sins, His resurrection from the dead, and His transformation of the world through love. Unlike any other leader or teacher, Jesus lived without moral failure and willingly gave His life to pay for our sins. His resurrection demonstrates His divine power and offers hope for new life to all who believe. Through love alone, this man who lived only 30 years has influenced over 2 billion followers and changed the course of human history.

The Tenement Museum preserves and interprets the personal stories of residents of two buildings on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Ninety-seven Orchard Street opened in 1863 and housed a succession of European immigrants until the double blow of the Great Depression and the impact of the 1924 Johnson Reed Act forced the landlord to evict the tenants. Down the block, 103 Orchard, built in 1888, kept its doors open throughout the twentieth century, hosting Jewish and Italian immigrants in its early years, and Holocaust refugees, Puerto Rican migrants and Chinese immigrants in its later years. This program traces how immigration law impacted the residents of these buildings, and how they carved out new lives once they arrived. Census records, newspaper articles and oral histories—with a focus on YIVO primary sources—will be used to bring the families' situations to life and situate them in their contexts. Every Christian needs a clear purpose statement, just like successful organizations do. Our spiritual North Star is the Great Commission: to be followers of Christ who make followers of Christ who make followers of Christ. This three-part process begins with our own discipleship through prayer, Scripture study, and obedience. We then share our faith with others, investing time in their spiritual growth. Finally, we encourage those we influence to reach others in their own spheres of influence. Without this clear purpose, we can easily get distracted by politics, theological controversies, or church growth metrics that pull us away from our true calling.
The Bible stands as God's unique revelation to humanity, a light piercing through the darkness of our world. Throughout history, countless believers have risked their lives to protect and share Scripture because they understood its vital importance. As God's inspired word, the Bible serves as our supreme authority on matters of faith and godly living. While some passages require careful interpretation, most biblical commands are remarkably clear - we often struggle not with understanding them, but with obeying them. The word of God is living and active, capable of speaking directly to our hearts and circumstances even today.

Jer and Devon are back at the table, kicking things off with Devon's recent trip to Pittsburgh and what Detroit can learn from its dense, walkable core, lively riverfront, and reuse of historic buildings. Then they swing back home as Jer heads up to the rooftop at The Godfrey to check in on the views, vibes, and espresso martini trees lighting up the night crowd. Devon pushes back on the idea that Dearborn is losing people, arguing the city is quietly adding residents, building housing, and skewing younger than most of Michigan — and he previews the upcoming Dearborn Night of Innovation and Bet on Dearborn business expo. Finally, the pair break down plans for a new 600-room convention hotel connected to Huntington Place, why downtown still needs more rooms, and how the project fits into the post-office, hotel-vs-residential debate in Detroit's core. Seasons of comfort and success can quietly become the moments when our hearts are most vulnerable. In this message from 2 Samuel 11, we follow David's journey from a rooftop to ruin and see how an unguarded heart led to lingering temptation, growing desire, and ultimately destructive sin. This sermon reminds us that following our hearts apart from God's truth leads to spiritual and relational devastation. Scripture warns that the heart is deceitful, and only by guarding it diligently can we avoid the progression of sin.
Here's a little ditty about tents, campers, rooftops, Hanks cat, carp and so much more nonsense. Enjoy!
