Keep Your Marketing Simple - Four steps for better videos to improve your marketing The goal of this video is to give you simple tips for how to shoot videos at home in a way that looks professional and is engaging. 1. Video Lighting - Face a natural light source What that means is just face a window, so you get lots of light coming in and lights up your face so that we can see you. If you don't do this, and if you put the window in the background which we see quite often, you end up becoming very dark looking like a silhouette. If you are dark we can't actually see your face and people really connect with your face. So face a natural light source, simply face a window. 2. Video Background - Think about what is behind you So you wanna remove a lot of the distractions and keep everything as simple as possible so that it looks nice. Now, as a rule of thumb, a boring background means a boring video, or a tacky background means a tacky video. So what you wanna do is you wanna make it look as good as you can. Now if you need advice for making the background of your video better, leave a comment below and we can give you some advice there. I can even bring in some other people who give me advice about how to do this setup, for example Will Gordon, who's an amazing photographer, I'm sure he'll be happy to leave a few comments below as well. 3. Video audio - Improve your audio with a microphone Now given what's happening with the coronavirus, that might not be easy to order a new microphone or something like that. I can leave a link below for the audio microphone that I use, which is really good, I've used it for years, lasts a long time, it's about $100, and it's really really good quality, but there's a tonne of really good quality microphones that you can use. I strongly recommend that you use a microphone, not just use the internal microphone of a phone or of a computer. This will make a big difference to your video. Recommended Microphone - RØDE SMARTLAVPRode SmartLav+ Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone for Smartphones 4. Video delivery - Structure your talk Now this is actually the most important one. Even if you get all of the others wrong, if you do this right, you can deliver really good information. In terms of structuring your talk, what you need to do is Step one: Hook Start with a really good hook, which is you ask a good question, Step two: Desire Talk about the desire, which is what people want to achieve. Step three: Problem Discuss the problem, which is what is stopping them from achieving what they want to achieve. Step four: Solution Discuss the solution, which is what's going to solve their problem. Step five: Application Talk about how you apply the solution so that they get an understanding of how the product or service actually solves their problem, Step six: Call to Action The last one is how they can buy it from you. So if you do all of these things that I'm discussing right now and apply it to your videos, I guarantee, you'll end up with a better video.

When you talk about yourself, people will dismiss you. The strategy to overcome this with your content is to find someone else who will say it for you. This person will become a Brand Champion for you and will help your content move through the noise strategically. Even if you have the authority to say something about yourself, it’s better to find someone who champions your message. By finding someone who champions your message, your content will have a strategic edge. The first task is to identify your strategic angle, this is usually your USP or Unique Selling Proposition. The next step is to find people who champion that message for you to strategically push your content. A testimonial is a good example of a brand champion, but this is a step further. This is encapsulating a story around your brand champion and promoting them for mutual benefit. You have to be brutally honest with yourself when it comes to creating strategic content. This is because if you don’t have someone’s attention straight away, then your content will be flicked away. Your content strategy needs to be strong enough to grab someone’s attention, and for a lot of brands, they can’t use gimmicks. In strategic content, the real cut through comes from an emotional angle. Your audience does care, but they have so much going on in their life that their minds are already full. Viral marketing does not happen just because of the way you look. All of that stuff is not as important as getting your message across. So if you have to accept all of your flaws, nervousness, fear, whatever it happens to be and just step into it and do it anyway. If you want to create viral videos, you must practice that every day and even if it doesn't get easier, you get stronger. You're able to deliver the message that you want to deliver and when you get your message right, you will reach bigger audiences. I hate public presentations. I hate standing in front of a group, especially business people, I get nervous. My heart beats out of control… But what I do is just Breathe it out, stand up and deliver. I apply this to my videos. I think about my message and accept everything and deliver. By following this process, I know I will achieve viral success. I work with a financial planner who is a rock star. She basically, absolutely terrified, has started to do this. She has committed to doing videos to create viral marketing. I don't see the terrified as weakness, either. I don't see it like that. Because some people think I'm too scared to do it, and then they put themselves down. They freeze and there is no reason to. When I was first trying to land clients and I’d say we can do this video strategy, across multiple platforms, we're going to work out this process to go viral. My first thought was that people would jump all over this because it was viral marketing. And I thought viral marketing was awesome. But then, the little tiny thing of getting in front of the camera was the biggest problem and was stopping me from achieving viral marketing. The camera was the thing that got in my way. So then I was after that my whole strategy was to just challenge people. I’d say to people, if you want me to work for you and create viral marketing for your business, you've got until the end of the week... Get your phone out. Take a video and upload it to social media. The answer is simple. Google advertising is a great strategy. You can make the economics work. But you're only talking to 10% of the audience. What about the other 90%? Content marketing is about going after a much bigger pool. What happens the day you stop your Google advertising? You fall off the front page. So when you start doing a content strategy, a couple of things happen. First of all, you end up with a catalogue of videos and create digital assets. Money follows assets, which in this case is all your videos, text and all the audio. Because your content marketing is uploading to all the different social media channels, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, etc. You start building all of those digital assets, as well. So you start getting followers and building good relationships with people. So they become part of your assets as well. But even better than that, you start to influence the buying cycle. Because you are building relationships with people, you decrease the length of time that people are in the buying cycle. According to Chris Voss, people are six times more likely to do business with you, if they like you. So by putting a lot of content out there and building followers, and engaging your audience, you influence the buying cycle just from doing that. Content marketing is powerful. My job is to make content marketing easy. In content marketing, there are three major steps that I've identified. 1. Filming/editing, 2. Repurposing, 3. Distribution. I allow my clients to handle as much of that as they want or as little as they want. When working with different clients, it's important to understand that everyone's different. Everyone has different skills. Every business works a little different and a lot of factors that come in... budgets, etc. This impacts how I do content marketing with someone. So depending on what you want to do, depending on how hands-on you want to be or how hands off you want to be, I facilitate around you. So some businesses want full bells and whistles, high-end production, film crews, etc. Great. We can organize all of that for you.
