Originally Released Dec. 5, 2023When an athlete trains and practices in his or her sport, they are achieving multiple goals at the same time. They get stronger by lifting weights. They get more agile and increase endurance by running and doing sprints. They develop muscle memory by practicing their sport and certain moves over and over and over again. All of this is in pursuit of being ready for the competition – ready for game day. As Christians, we have our own exercises – we call them spiritual practices. We grow stronger in our faith through reading Scripture. We grow more agile and increase endurance through fasting and silence and solitude. We develop muscle memory through gratitude. Today's episode is all about spiritual practices. Host Jason Wieland is joined today by Reward Sibanda. Reward and Jason go in-depth on what spiritual practices are, what they do to and for you, and why it's important to make spiritual practices a part of your life. Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland. Ever wondered why some of the best coaches out there—talented, smart, and experienced women—still find marketing their coaching services to be a real struggle? If you're nodding along, this episode is for you. I've seen it time and again: incredible coaches who are brilliant at helping clients, but when it's time to talk about what they do, something gets lost in translation. Why is it that being great at coaching doesn't automatically make you great at marketing yourself? That's exactly what I'm unpacking in today's episode. I'm pulling back the curtain on the two big (but often hidden) mistakes I see skilled coaches making in their marketing. These aren't mistakes you can just Google—these are subtle but powerful ways you might be holding yourself back from connecting with your dream clients. Here's a glimpse at what I cover in this episode: What's really going on when amazing coaches struggle to “sell” themselves—and it's not what you think. Why talking about the root cause of your clients' struggles can actually turn them away, even though it feels like it should do the opposite. How to stop confusing your clients with solutions they're not even searching for yet—and what to focus on instead. Why comparing features and benefits of your offer misses the mark, and what your clients are actually weighing up before choosing to work with you. If you've ever felt like your marketing just isn't landing—or if you're tired of spinning your wheels and second-guessing your messaging—this one's a must-listen. I promise: you'll come away with practical shifts to help your coaching attract the right clients, without feeling unnatural or salesy. Ready to finally understand what's been holding you back? “It’s really hard to be happier than your unhappiest child.” When one child is battling mental health challenges, the whole family feels the weight. In this heartfelt episode, Justin and Kylie answer a powerful question from a mum of four: How do I help my younger kids cope as their older brother struggles with depression? This episode is a must-listen for families navigating the emotional ripple effects of mental health struggles. With deep compassion and practical insight, the Coulsons explore how parents can support siblings through confusion, grief, and change—without losing themselves in the process. KEY POINTS: Acknowledge the Grief: Siblings often feel like they’ve “lost” their brother—even though he’s still physically there. Challenge Unhelpful Stories: Gently correct thoughts like “It’s my fault” or “He doesn’t love me anymore.” Explain Simply & Honestly: Offer age-appropriate explanations without going into detail or glossing over pain. Give Permission to Feel Joy: Let siblings know they don’t have to walk on eggshells or suppress happiness. Empower Them to Help: Involve siblings in small, non-burdensome acts of kindness to build connection and hope. Reinforce Connection: Help your struggling child feel included without pressure or guilt. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: “No matter how angry you are, no matter how sad you are, our love for you is bigger than what you're feeling right now.” RESOURCES MENTIONED: HappyFamilies.com.au – for parenting support and podcast submissions. ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS: Talk About It: Start a family conversation that names the reality and reassures: “This isn’t about you. This is something your brother is going through. And we’re in it together.” Model Calm Love: Your children are watching how you respond. Demonstrating patience and compassion teaches them resilience and loyalty. Create Joyful Moments: Take siblings out of the house for fun, connection, and relief from emotional tension. Invite Micro-Acts of Connection: Encourage simple, no-pressure gestures like watching a movie together or sharing a meme. Build Your Village: As a parent, find someone to support you—you don’t have to carry this alone. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Now in a new edition updated through the unprecedented 2016 presidential election, this provocative book makes a compelling case for a hidden “deep state” that influences and often opposes official U.S. policies. Prominent political analyst Peter Dale Scott begins by tracing America's increasing militarization, restrictions on constitutional rights, and income disparity since World War II. With the start of the Cold War, he argues, the U.S. government changed immensely in both function and scope, from protecting and nurturing a relatively isolated country to assuming ever-greater responsibility for controlling world politics in the name of freedom and democracy. This has resulted in both secretive new institutions and a slow but radical change in the American state itself. He argues that central to this historic reversal were seismic national events, ranging from the assassination of President Kennedy to 9/11.Scott marshals compelling evidence that the deep state is now partly institutionalized in non-accountable intelligence agencies like the CIA and NSA, but it also extends its reach to private corporations like Booz Allen Hamilton and SAIC, to which 70 percent of intelligence budgets are outsourced. Behind these public and private institutions is the influence of Wall Street bankers and lawyers, allied with international oil companies beyond the reach of domestic law. Undoubtedly the political consensus about America's global role has evolved, but if we want to restore the country's traditional constitutional framework, it is important to see the role of particular cabals—such as the Project for the New American Century—and how they have repeatedly used the secret powers and network of Continuity of Government (COG) planning to implement change. Yet the author sees the deep state polarized between an establishment and a counter-establishment in a chaotic situation that may actually prove more hopeful for U.S. democracy.https://amzn.to/4k35qGoBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

The Reds led 5-2 going into the 8th, powered by Elly De La Cruz's two-run homer and Matt McLain's two doubles. Cardinals pitchers held the Reds to 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position, while Phil Maton earned the win. Chad interviews me as we do a deep dive into my latest book, The Seven Commitments of a Great Team, the journey that shaped it, and why these lessons matter for everyone looking to build something great together. Chad leads me through an honest exploration of what a true “championship mindset” really means, why it's not about chasing a trophy, but becoming the kind of teammate and leader who lifts up others and shows up with purpose, grit, and positivity, no matter the circumstances. I share parts of my personal journey, including the struggles with negativity that almost cost me my marriage and ultimately pushed me onto this path of teaching positive leadership. We go behind the scenes on the writing of Seven Commitments, touching on the coaches and mentors who inspired me, like the unforgettable Coach Richie Moran (whose words “teammates are forever” are at the heart of this story). Together we break down why valuing each other is the foundation of any great team, how individual goals and a shared mission fuel real success, and why staying positive, together, matters most when adversity strikes. You'll hear why these commitments have already struck a chord with so many coaches and business leaders, how simple frameworks like LIGHT and VALUE can unlock stronger teams, and why I believe this might be my most meaningful work yet. Why am I here? Because I'm not here just to occupy space. I'm supposed to be doing something with this gift I've been given, called life. What do I do with it?” “We entangle our identity and our occupation… that's not you. You've got to untangle this stuff.” “The cycle of life, you're either growing or you're dying. There is no in-between.” “Those little baby steps along the way are a good thing. They don't necessarily feel great in the moment. They feel okay. It's just when we take the moment to stop, turn around, and look to see how far we've come, then we realize we have grown so much.” “Your identity is worked out over time, in community.” “Want what you already have.” “Anytime you're pointing at someone, remember — there's a thumb headed up toward heaven, three other fingers pointing back at you. So whatever you say to somebody should apply to you at least three times as much.” “Seeking certainty is a lack of faith. God is not a God of certainty. He's a God of mystery. And when you can embrace the mystery, then you're like, ‘Oh, I don't need certainty. Wherever he wants me to go, I go.” “False identity is that you're a bad dad, you're a bad husband, you're a bad community leader... the true identity is what God tells you. It's what He reveals to you.” USEFUL RESOURCES: https://whitestonecoach.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/peterjawad/ https://www.instagram.com/thepeterawad/ https://www.facebook.com/thepeterawad https://x.com/peterawad CONNECT WITH JOHN Website - https://iamjohnhulen.com    Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/johnhulen    Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/johnhulen    X - https://x.com/johnhulen    LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnhulen    YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLX_NchE8lisC4NL2GciIWA    EPISODE CREDITS Intro and Outro music provided by Jeff Scheetz - https://jeffscheetz.com/
