Hosted by Brandi Jackola and Nick Collinson, with occasional guest hosts, THE VEDEK ASSEMBLY - A STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE PODCAST is dedicated to the 1993-1999 series featuring Captain Benjamin Sisko and the crew of space station Deep Space Nine.
No, that title is not a typo; it's Brandi's dyslexia at work! After a long and unplanned hiatus, we're finally releasing all those backlogged episodes that we (okay, it's just Brandi's fault) hadn't edited yet. We finally bring you part two of our "Where Are They Now?" imaginings for the characters of DS9! Cast your mind back to late 2021 when this episode was recorded, before season four of Discovery had premiered, and Strange New Worlds seemed so far away. We cover the whereabouts of Bashir, Garak, Dax, Worf, and Quark, wander down Tangent Lane into Snack Corner and Tea Talk, and you'll have to listen to understand why we mention Vulcan cosplay ears. (It's probably exactly what you think.)
With the release of Star Trek: Picard season 2 here, in this episode (part 1 of a 2-parter) Nick and Brandi take a speculative look at what some of our favourite Deep Space Nine characters could be up to in the much more uncertain time of Star Trek: Picard, at the turn of the 25th Century.
In this LONG OVERDUE episode of The Vedek Assembly, Vedeks Collinson and Jackola convene with Kai Doctor McCormack Una, New York Times best-selling author and all-round great person. They discuss her most recent books, do a dive into Enigma Tales, discuss Spock's beans, and go on a retro sci-fi tangent that spans the sixties through current day. Find Dr. Una McCormack's books wherever books are sold, in both physical and digital form.
On this episode of The Vedek Assembly Nick and Brandi take a look at the Season 2 episode Paradise. Get ready for some *strong opinions* from both Vedeks as they discuss their issues with the theming, plot and characters in this episode, as well as the overall philosophy of Alixus and her fellow colonists, while offering some more ethical and sustainable alternatives that are being practiced in the real world today. Brandi and Nick finish up their Kira Nerys love fest by talking about the relationships she made on Deep Space Nine. As always, prepare for tangents, and a slip of the tongue on Brandi's part towards the end that could earn her a lawsuit...?
On this episode of The Vedek Assembly Nick and Brandi discuss the character of the tenacious, strong, rebellious and passionate second-in-command of Deep Space Nine, Kira Nerys. We also discuss the problems women face in the modern workplace, and Brandi learns a new Australian slang term for swimwear. No other podcast recommendations this week, but we do mention the YPJ (Women's Protection Units) in Rojava at one point, and more information about them can be found here: https://thekurdishproject.org/history-and-culture/kurdish-women/ypj/ and here: https://makerojavagreenagain.org/
In this episode Vedeks Brandi and Nick talk about the season 5 episode For the Uniform. We're back! Vedeks Collinson and Jackola return to bring you more DS9 discussion, more parallels to real life issues and most of all, more wild tangents. In this episode the Vedeks update you on what we've been up to these past few months, how things are going in general and where we want to go with The Vedek Assembly in the future. Tangents abound in this un-planned and un-scripted return episode of The Vedek Assembly.
