It's that time of year where we try and delve into the strange and scary for our Halloween episode and this time, we've hit upon altered states (not the Ken Russell film) where our heroes undergo a strange transformation. In the TOS episode ‘Wolf in the Fold,' Bones's obsession with getting Scotty laid ends in a lot of mysterious stabbings that date back to Victorian London, while in Voyager's ‘Darkling,' the Doctor's attempt to improve himself by adding bits of other people into him starts making him very large in the tooth and a little too psychosexual towards Kes. Then in DS9's ‘Empok Nor,' O'Brien, Nog, Garak and a collection of clearly important side characters mission to a deserted Cardassian Space Station to steal some wiring ends with psychotropic drug-induced violence. Typical. Happy Halloween! The post 85. Star Trek Halloween III – Let's Get Scotty Laid! first appeared on Nerd & Tie Network.

TrekRanks - Member of The Tricorder Transmissions : a Star Trek Podcast Network

It's another “everything goes” abstract topic on TrekRanks as our expert panel tackles “Abstract L,” labeling luminous locations and lightships of all sorts that randomly begin with the letter L. This is TrekRanks at its abstract finest! Led by host Jim Moorhouse and guests Alex Perry, Claire Little and Ken Reilly, literally anything is on the table in this fun “flash ranks” episode recorded live at STLV via a temporal anomaly. Log in and let's fly! Episode Rundown: Diagnostic Cycle: We briefly go through not only our “Abstract” roll call, but our “Flash Ranks” roll call to prep for the topic. Prime Directive: Each guest on this week's panel reveals exactly how they narrowed down their list and made their final choices. The Order of Things: All the picks are revealed with the TrekRanks' original “Five words and a hashtag” summary, along with one episode that helps frame their choice. Secondary Systems: For a few extra picks that just missed our final list. Regeneration Cycle: The panel recaps their picks and we dissect some of the interesting statistical anomalies that arose from the discussion. Temporal Inversion: We flashback to a previous episode of TrekRanks and relay some of the feedback received from listeners. If you have your own picks you would like to relay to us, please hail us at 757-828-RANK (7265) and record your own personal TrekRanks log to let us know your picks for Abstract L. (Or you can record it yourself and just DM us @TrekRanks.com on Bluesky.) Your comments could be used as part of a Temporal Causality Loop on an upcoming episode (and might get you a chance to be a guest on a future episode, too). And don't forget to check out TrekRanks.com for our entire back catalog of episodes and a detailed rundown on every episode of Star Trek ever.

And who better to send as chief negotiator than Quark? The first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation was famously turbulent, but behind the scenes, it was also a hive of creative experimentation and open doors for new voices. This week, we welcome veteran writer/producer Cash Edwards, whose original story pitch "The True One" caught the attention of Gene Roddenberry, D.C. Fontana, and his longtime friend, producer Herb Wright. Though the script wasn't produced, it sparked genuine enthusiasm, and Herb's memo to Gene is our document of the week. Cash joins Larry to share memories from TNG's earliest days: working closely with the producers, meeting the cast, and witnessing the scramble for scripts that defined Season One. He also reveals some, let's say colorful, ideas he contributed to the development of the Ferengi's first appearance (laser bolos, anyone? leech grenades?). It's a window into a time when Star Trek was still figuring itself out and welcoming new creatives into the mix who helped shape the journey.

In the Star Trek: Voyager episode Author, Author, The Doctor takes his first stab at fiction, but his holonovel hits a little too close to home. Captain Jenkins is a sadist, Tulak relishes punishment, and Lt. Marseilles just wants to get in your pants. The crew is shocked. The Doctor calls it “art,” and a Federation publisher calls it “contractually locked.” As Voyager debates creative expression vs. defamation, a deeper issue emerges: does the author have rights? “Photons Be Free”—but only if Starfleet says so, in Author, Author on this week's Mission Log. What makes the fear of replacement so primal? From the original 1956 Invasion of the Body Snatchers to interpretations in the 70s, 90s, and 2000s, the Body Snatchers story has been remade across four major films, each reflecting the anxieties of its era. We examine the story's evolution from small-town paranoia to urban mistrust, military conformity, and global transformation—and why this tale of pod people keeps resonating.Questions We Discuss:Why does the fear of being replaced (or having loved ones replaced) persist across cultures and generations? How did each decade's version reflect its political moment—from 1950s McCarthyism to 1970s post-Watergate cynicism to fears of the military in this century? Can Body Snatchers be read as both anti-communist AND anti-McCarthyist commentary? What makes conformity so terrifying when the hive mind promises peace and emotional stability? How do ancient changeling myths connect to modern AI replacement anxieties? Is the Body Snatchers archetype shifting from alien invasion to mechanical replacement? What happens when institutions meant to protect us become the source of the threat?Films covered: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956, 1978), Body Snatchers (1993), The Invasion (2007)Related media discussed: The Faculty, Star Trek's Borg, Deep Space Nine changelings, The Puppet Masters, Invaders from Mars **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Long before the internet brought fans together, the Star Trek community thrived through newsletters, potlucks, and passionate word of mouth. This week, The Trek Files celebrates the 50th anniversary of the United Federation of Phoenix (UFP), the longest-running independent Star Trek fan club, with guest Dr. David Williams, UFP member and Arizona State University planetary scientist. Using a 1975 Arizona Republic article as our time capsule, we look back at how a group of Arizona fans kept the Trek spirit alive in the years between the show's cancellation and its cinematic rebirth. From screening parties and fan films to homemade uniforms and sci-fi socials, UFP didn't just preserve the legacy, it expanded it. Dave and Larry explore the roots of early fandom, the transition from stamps to screens, and why clubs like UFP still thrive after half a century of community-building.

This week, we're diving into Star Trek: Khan, the official audio drama from Paramount that explores the untold backstory of Khan Noonien Singh—complete with surprise guest stars from across the Star Trek universe. But that's not all: Could a new Star Trek series starring Captain Archer be on the horizon? Did you know a Ghostbuster almost joined Deep Space Nine? And is Star Trek about to get a little more magical? We've gathered all the latest Star Trek news, rumors, and stories—and we're breaking it all down on this week's Trekcast!News:https://trekmovie.com/2025/10/01/exclusive-scott-bakula-led-star-trek-united-pitch-explores-archers-family-romulan-war-aftermath/https://screenrant.com/star-trek-deep-space-nine-ernie-hudson-ghostbusters-audition/https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/star-trekStar Trek: Khan is an American audio drama series directed by Fred Greenhalgh and written by Kirsten Beyer and David Mack, based on a story by Nicholas Meyer. It is part of executive producer Alex Kurtzman's expanded Star Trek Universe. The series explores Khan Noonien Singh during the nearly 20 years that he is stranded on the planet Ceti Alpha V between the events of the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Space Seed" (1967) and Meyer's film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982). Naveen Andrews stars as Khan, with Wrenn Schmidt, Sonya Cassidy, George Takei, and Tim Russ also starring. Work on the project, which originated as a three-episode television miniseries written by Meyer, was first revealed in June 2017. That version did not move forward due to the cost of producing such a short series.
