Eddington (2025) is the latest film from the ever-evolving mind of Ari Aster, one of the most beloved new horror directors of the past decade. While Aster has evolved away from horror in his latest two features, he still has a knack for tackling bold and challenging themes in his films. Eddington will certainly scare off some audiences for its close proximity to recent events, but this podcast certainly has much to say about it. Cinema Spectator is a movie podcast hosted by Isaac Ransom, Juzo Greenwood, and Cameron Tuttle. The show is executive produced by Darrin O'Neill and recorded & produced in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. You can support the show at patreon.com/ecfsproductions. Follow us on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter under ECFS Productions (@ecfsproductions). Isaac and Cameron started recording podcasts with their first project, Everything Comes from Something (2018), and are now focusing on new weekly content for Cinema Spectator. Cameron Tuttle is a full-time professional cinematographer who majored in SFSU Film School to collaborate with corporate, private, and creative productions. Cameron is the expert. Isaac Ransom works full-time as a marketing leader, with creative experience in brand, advertising, product, music, and film. Isaac is the student. And Juzo, he knows everything about cinema. The podcast is a passion project between three longtime friends; we hope you can enjoy our project with the limited time we have! Thank you for your time, your generosity, and support.
Ari Aster returns viewers to the pandemic days of summer 2020 with his latest film, Eddington. Michael, Jared, and Joe reflect on that miserable time while they debate this powder keg of a thriller.
And we're back (again)! Cole and Zach have joined forces with previous frequent guest Morgan in a permanent capacity to conquer the films of the summer of 2025 and Ari Aster's divisive (even amongst the three hosts) Eddington!
“Oh, I'm like the Cryptkeeper!” August is here, and that means it's time to dig into the infamous “Dumping Ground” Month—a time when studios release movies that don't fit anywhere else… but sometimes, they're absolute gems. This week, Henrique and David head to sunny California to revisit a body-swap comedy favorite that's now getting a long-awaited sequel: Freaky Friday (2003)! When Tess and her rebellious daughter Anna suddenly switch bodies due to a mystical mishap, they're forced to literally walk in each other's shoes and learn to understand one another. Chaos, comedy, and a surprising amount of heart follow in this Disney remake classic. Directed by Mark Waters, and starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, and Mark Harmon, this version of Freaky Friday became a defining film for a generation—and now, a sequel is on the way!

Ari Aster's EDDINGTON (2025) takes us back to the lockdown year of 2020, satirizing the many archetypes and discourses - right, left, and centre - that flourished during the pandemic. Eddington is the fourth feature film written and directed by Ari Aster. It’s a neo-Western comedy set in the fictional and titular New Mexico town during May, 2020. Eddington was nominated for the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and it’s one of three Pedro Pascal movies that are currently in the top 20 at the domestic box office. Send us a textThe theatrical landscape of 2025 tells a fascinating story through its box office patterns and creative trends. Animation continues its unstoppable theatrical dominance across multiple studios, while long-running franchises like Mission Impossible and Jurassic World show unmistakable signs of fatigue. Has the time come to put these decades-old properties to rest? Our midyear film roundup reveals a striking preference for original storytelling over franchise continuation. From the breathtaking coastal beauty of Paolo Sorrentino's Parthenope to the inventive shark thrills of Dangerous Animals, our top picks demonstrate cinema's continued ability to surprise and captivate. Steven Soderbergh's spy thriller Black Bag showcases masterful craftsmanship, while Tim Robinson's Friendship brings his distinctive comedic sensibilities to feature length with remarkable success. The conversation turns passionate when discussing Ryan Coogler's Sinners and Ari Aster's Eddington – films that blend genres with extraordinary confidence while delivering profound thematic depth. Both represent bold, auteur-driven visions that resonated deeply with audiences seeking thoughtful, challenging cinema.Looking ahead, the remainder of 2025 promises an embarrassment of riches from acclaimed filmmakers including Park Chan-wook, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Jim Jarmusch. Their upcoming works, alongside anticipated releases like Edgar Wright's The Running Man and Blumhouse's Weapons, suggest our year-end lists may undergo significant transformation. What films have captured your imagination in 2025? This week, Izzy and Murtada discuss the film of the summer. No, it's not Superman, and it's definitely not Eddington. It's Taxi zum Klo—Frank Ripploh's 1980 film about a gay public school teacher in Berlin who is forced to reassess his preference for casual sex when he enters into a relationship with a cinema worker named Bernd. The restoration of this extremely modern, incisive film premieres at Metrograph in New York City on August 1. Izzy and Murtada also discuss the aforementioned Superman and Eddington—why Superman's politics are surprisingly bold and Eddington's are annoyingly toothless, what James Gunn offers the DC Universe, and where Ari Aster can go from here. It's a movie about hats, and a movie about giving folks the high hat. It's also a movie about how Jon Polito is the greatest actor in the world. It's Miller's Crossing!
