On this Deep Space episode, host Maria Varmazis catches up with friend Tim Gagnon aka KSCartist and Susie Morris, Tim's long-time creative collaborator at A-B Emblem while at SpaceCom. Everyone loves a patch in aerospace, stick em on board or on your flight jacket, hand them out at meetups or conferences, buy em at your favorite space store, who doesn't love a space patch. And Tim and Susie talked to me about what goes into this unique and very beloved art form. A reading of the "The Silver Key," by H.P. Lovecraft, first published in the January, 1929 issue of Weird Tales, and first read aloud here, by me, in March of 2026.Please note: while this story is largely fanciful, this is ultimately a horror podcast, and so it may not be suitable for all audiences. In particular, this story involves the horrors of growing old, the siren's song of nostalgia bordering on retromania, suicidal thoughts, grotesque packaging, and the utter meaningless of life in a blind and uncaring cosmos. If this subject matter is likely to disturb or offend you, you may wish to skip this episode. You can read this story yourself at HPLovecraft.com, or enjoy the ambient "Sound of Jupiter | 12 Hours of Space Ambient Sounds" by Voice of the Deep Space, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8myhlA8PZAYou can text us now. Episode Notes First there's a lot of non-DS9 chat, sorry. Who Mourns for Morn: Quark has been holding Morn's seat via holo-Morn. But Morn has... died? The entire station shows up to his wake. Morn leaves everything to Quark, which is... nothing. Except for a painting of a matador. And a mud bath. And a naked woman. And a rumor of 1000 bricks of gold-pressed latinum. Quark gets threatened by the most Coen Brothers goons ever. Morn was... a prince? So many short cons. It's not latinum, it's just... worthless gold. Odo and Quark have boyfriend telepathy. One Little Ship: Time to do SCIENCE. Kira is genre aware and thinks it's hilarious to shrink members of the command crew. Nog covers for Worf. Intergenerational conflict among the JemHadar. Itty Bitty Photon Torpedoes. Maybe the Founders put a little too much Cardassian in the new Alphas. BabSpace9 is a production of the Okay, So network. Episode Notes This episode breaks the 4th wall in a fascinating way. Introducing Benny Russell, and some almost-familiar faces. Casual 1950s racism and sexism. Imagining a better future. Armon gets to be the moral backbone of a story for once. In every reality, Odo is a fascist. You never quite expect to hear the hard-R n-word in Trek but here we are. Episode Notes The Magnificent Ferengi: It's never a good sign when Quark looks overly pleased with himself. Moogie has been captured... by the Dominion? And QUARK has to rescue her? Rom learns what Moogie has been up to. STONKS. All Nog needs is a good job title and he's in. Ferengi are negotiators, not warriors. Emo Vorta. Everything that can go wrong does. IGGY POP??? Nog discovers the Weekend at Bernies gambit. Maybe Ferengi are warriors? This whole episode is a sunday night RPG session (appreciative). Vorta malevolent curiosity. Only in a Ferengi episode would accidentally killing a hostage be ok. The best Trek episodes are ones where the actors are clearly enjoying themselves. Waltz: Sisko and Dukat road trip gone wrong episode. Nebula-class chat. Dukat "saves" Sisko? Dukat is hallucinating a lot, but that's fine, right? Dukat has an interesting memory of his two stints as DS9 commander. Fake Kira might be even better than real Kira. Huh, maybe Dukat just needs to be removed from the Alpha Quadrant. This episode is deliciously uncomfortable. Dr. Cox??? Marc Olaimo put in the labor over the last 5.5 seasons in order for this episode to work. BabSpace9 is a production of the Okay, So network. In this wide-ranging episode about a very good episode of Deep Space 9, Ryan and Brady go off on several tangents, everything from nostalgia for parenting young kids to the efficacy of sci-fi metaphor to classic VeggieTales music to which Star Trek species would be the nastiest to bone down with. In between, we talk about the Jem'Hadar and an unsung performance from Bumper Robinson.

Episode Notes Resurrection: The merits of dinner parties. Ughhh it's Bareil again. Or a Mirror Universe Bareil, except not fun or horny. Jude rants about orbs again. Noooo Kira don't do it. Oh good, Mirror Kira. Hopefully there's an actual HR rep for this Bajoran-Starfleet joint op, and that it's not Odo. Justen hates that this is a Mirror Universe episode without the Mirror Universe. Statistical Probabilities: Yes, this is a metaphor for autism. Also the politics of augmentation. Damar gets a promotion. "Uncomplicated" might not be a compliment. Jack suggests doing a treason. There are problems with this episode but it's nice to see Bashir unmask a bit. Jack may be Nate Silver. BabSpace9 is a production of the Okay, So network. Show notes provided by Joe PelusoSixty years this coming September the crew of the starship USSEnterprise (NCC-1701) took us on a trek to the stars --"to go where no one has gone before!". Its maiden voyage bowed on the NBC Network on September 8th, 1966. And the genre of science fiction would never be the same. One second season episode (a rare sci-fi comedy/adventure) would introduce to the loyal fans a tiny, furry creature that would cause havoc and hilarity for the captain and crew. What followed in the ensuing years was a growing fanbase that helped launch conventions, comic books, merchandise, an animated sequel, motion pictures and a philosophy of a hopeful future that permeated the culture. And if that wasn't enough, thirty years from that historicbeginning the crew of Deep Space 9 (the second Star Trek spinoff) ventured back to that OG Enterprise for a grand time travel adventure that reaffirmed once again those tiny, furry tribbles always cause Trouble and Tribulations. Join your hosts, Starfleet Captains, James, Josh, John, and ensign Joe (He got reduced in rank for rigging the Enterprise bowling alley to record only strikes.) as they perform a full diagnostic on Star Trek's "The Trouble With Tribbles" and Star Trek DS9's "Trials and Tribulations".What follows is an hour of thoughtful examinations of--Oh who are we kidding?! It's a total "geekfest"! But amidst the guffaws there are cogent observations and a "storage bin" of Trek history. If you enjoy StarTrek occasionally going off script, then this isthe episode for you. The guys had a blast recording this episode, and we think you'll have one when you listen. Just remember to keep those phasers on stun. When things get silly the lamp usually gets broken.Or in this world, the turbo lift gets stuck SIXTY YEARS OF STAR TREK! Remember to live long and prosper.
Come with us as we dive deeper into season 2 of Deep Space 9! In this episode, we discuss these episodes: The Alternate, Armageddon Game, Whispers, and Paradise We have an email address now! tvshowinspace@gmail.com, send us your thoughts (only if they are nice).
