What the LDL? Well, he means is that the term is far too general and far too vague to describe a very complicated process that has implications across all our bodies and is largely misunderstood by many. Have you been told by your doctor that your Cholesterol, particularly your LDL, has been flagged as dangerously high? Maybe you have been prescribed a drug to deal with it? Well, now hold on to your seats now as this massively interestingly episode with Dr Malcolm Kendrick is about to blow apart the cholesterol myth once and for all! Dr Kendrick has spent the last 30 years exhaustively researching heart disease and has put down his key findings in the highly informative and massively entertaining book: The Clot Thickens. It is a Powerhouse of a book!! If you still believe that cholesterol equals heart disease equation (and why shouldn't you… that is what most doctors will tell you!) then please listen in as Dr Kendrick explains the process of heart disease which has a lot more to do with blood clots than cholesterol! As an aside we also mention a little story about Viagra and what it was initially developed for!! Listen in to the end as once he gets though the techy stuff he makes some excellent and very simple recommendations to address not only heart disease but other common (yet linked) ailments too (Diabetes, Alzheimer's and Dementia) which will thereby increase your (healthy) life expectancy – which, at the end of the day, is really the only thing that matters! Hi Guys and listen in this time to a very real and rather emotional episode as my darling wife, Steffi , is interviewed by Ivor Cummins talking about how it feels when you get THAT phone call from the hospital that your husband has had a heart attack and they cannot whether he will survive or not the next 24 hours. Here Steffi explain how it feels to suddenly learn that your whole life is suddenly collapsing in front of you like a house of cards. Emotional stuff – but that is what we have been through together. Today we dig a little deeper about Diabetes, it causes, the potential issues that lead from it such as heart disease, cancer and all things (not so ) nice and how you can simply reverse it with a few lifestyle and diet hacks. Donal Collins is a retired doctor who too was a victim of Type 2 diabetes before he found a way to reverse his own without resorting to medication. He shares with us today some of that information as statistically currently over 80% of the population (certainly in developed countries) is diabetic, or as we like to say, metabolically ill. This will, if not checked, will often lead to Alzheimers and Parkinsons disease in later life – something none of us want. We also dive a little deeper into looking at the real driver behind diabetes and blood sugar inbalances : Insulin and insulin measurement. Donal is part of a team working with a home testing insulin meter - the first of its kind – to get behind the scenes as it were of blood sugars and diabetes. Yes you heard that right – over 80% of folks are diabetic, whether diagnosed or not so make sure you care and share this talk!! Donal will be an integral part of the We Love Our Heart Pioneer Programme in 2022 so for more info go to www.Weloveourheart.com and check out the pioneer programme to start in January! How do you lower your risk of having a heart attack and increase your heart health? What else should I do besides taking my medication? What should I eat (or avoid)? How much exercise is healthy and how much is too much? And the big one… what is the root cause of my heart disease? To be able to answer these questions was the aim at the outset of our We Love Our Heart Pioneer Program – a course that runs over 12 weeks to reduce your risk of having a heart attack! This episode features Ivor Cummins as he talks with Martin Guenzl, one of my first Pioneers, and myself about what we have achieved in a short time with We Love Our Heart and our Pioneer Group. The Pioneers – a small group of individuals - were doing their very best to find answers to those key questions and more! Martin talks about his experience as he saw not only his weight drop and his physical strength and fitness improve over the three months of the programme, but more importantly his key blood markers showed he was also metabolically healthier! This is a massive episode! Hold on in there as this contains some essential information as we discuss the following questions with Dr Scott Murray, who I can safely say is one of the smartest guys in cardiology. How does a heart attack manifest itself and what signs to look for that you are having one? Why should everyone learn how to do CPR and what actually happens when you perform CPR properly Why does the statistics show that women are more likely to die from their first heart attack? What is the name of a special kind of heart attack that pregnant women are often prone to. And stay to the end to find out how much sport is actually healthy and how being very fit can nevertheless save your life!! So settle back on the sofa and tune in!! Dr Scott Murray first became a familiar name to me through his work together with Ivor Cummins on the excellent Extra Time Movie* when he was giving advice on what to do if you get a high CAC score and how to stabilize it - he is no doubt one of the true experts in this field. He shares with me his very personal back story before going on to blow me away with his in depth knowledge about heart disease and his current career in preventative cardiology. He is one of the founders of the Venturi Clinic – a one-stop-shop for heart disease from identifying potential issues all the way up to intervention surgery. Scott offers online consultations too for those who are unable to visit the clinically personally… indeed those from around the world. We then go a little deeper into the world of Spontaneous Cardiac Arterial Dissection (SCAD) which is proving to have a female bias – especially even amongst pregnant women. Stick with it as although it sounds quite technical Scott gives a very simple analysis. There is also a weird irony that whilst too much sport may be unhealthy and possibly contribute to a heart attack… there is a better chance of survival (without lasting damage) if you are very fit! Finally a word to the good about statins and their potential benefits and the relationship between cardiologists and sport. Over the last years there have been very little that has genuinely shocked me or left me speechless… That all changed after a short presentation given to our We Love Our Heart Pioneer Group from Dr Levy 2 weeks ago… He agreed to follow up the conversation for us in this podcast and you will see what I mean!! It all starts in the mouth! Dr Levy has a very direct “non waffle” approach and gets right to it: Many of the problems leading to heart disease and other chronic illnesses are a direct result of pathogens in the mouth!! Do you have fillings or root canal work in your teeth? If so, you would be well advised to listen to the end of this podcast and not only find out the connection between your mouth, teeth and tonsils and heart disease, but also the best, simplest and most natural way to keep your mouth clean… and it isn't what you think it is!! Listen to Dr Levy as he explains: “Trying to cure chronic inflammation without treating your teeth is like trying to get dry whilst in the shower!” We also discuss the following questions together; Can leaky gut be also caused by oral hygiene? Is high cholesterol a result of having pathogens in your blood? It ain't pretty but Dr Levy tells it how it is!! And how does your sugar intake potentially affect your arteriorsclerosis? He tells us one of the simplest and most natural methods of keeping your teeth clean!! Finally Dr Levy gives us the list of supplements that we should be taking to ensure maximum health. His talk certainly sent me scurrying to the nearest bio dentist and the work on my teeth begins next week! Links for all his books, some of which you can download for FREE!! https://rvr.medfoxpub.com
Has your doctor ever talked to you about being potentially “pre-diabetic”? Do you realise how widespread the problem is and how it can lead to all kinds of nasty diseases from heart issues to alzheimers and dementia? Diabetes today is a massive problem in the society as a whole, but for many people it goes unchecked until it becomes a real problem. Graham Phillips, an expert in diabetes prevention and treating without recoursing to medication. He is talking to me today about what to look for beyond some of the simple markers that your doctor might have mentioned. Your blood sugar readings, e.g. are just a snapshot and probably not telling the whole story – we look together “behind the scenes” to help identify so called “metabolic health” – Graham will explain more and talks too how the modern Western diet is only adding to the problem… Nutrition is simply not on the agenda of many health professionals and to quote Hypocrates, the father of modern medicine and the originator of the Hypocratic oath that all doctors have to take, “My medicine is what I eat, and what I eat is my medicine.” Stay around to the end as Graham explains how much can be achieved by changing diet and lifestyle …. Remember, you cannot outrun a bad diet!! Hi again and welcome to episode 2 of our we love our heart podcast – and have we got something special for you! I am talking to Johnny Bowden, health coach, Doctor and author of the great book “ The Cholesterol Code.” Have you ever been made anxious by your doctor talking to you about raised cholesterol? Have you been advised to take statins to reduce the LDL number? Then you should listen in as Johnny talks tome about how those numbers are measured and what they might mean and what are the possible real benefits of statins… you may be in for a big surprise!! Johnny will share with us some absolute nuggests of knowledge e.g. It was not so long ago Cholesterol used to be 1 single number!! Then - what a revelation – it became two!!! HDL and LDL, mistakenly labelled as good guy and bad guy cholesterol. Well guess what? Today we can recognize 13, 1 3 different types of cholesterol, and the number is growing!! And whilst Statins were introduced on a large scale around the early 90s there were already numerous cholesterol lowering drugs that showed little or no benefit for heart disease – So what makes Statins apparently better? Johnny will explain in his own style! Now listen to the end as he explains the simplest test in the world for insulin resistance – potentially the start of heart disease. Your host, Mark Felstead, has himself suffered a near-death heart attack, a widow maker, despite being a very sporty, fit and healthy man in his fifties. His experience set him on a journey of learning and gathering knowledge to help avoid this happening again! But his experience and what he has learnt about heart disease and root causes of heart attacks is just too good to keep to himself! This year he started We Love Our Heart as a self-help platform for like minded individuals to learn more together to try and get to the bottom of what causes heart disease and to try and "fix" as many things as possible to reduce risk of another cardiac event. This podcast, where he talks to his expert guests, is to help share that information so that hopefully you and your loved ones don't have to suffer the terrible devastation of a sudden cardiac arrest.
