Send us Fan MailOne small request can feel like a breaking point when you've already been carrying too much and you're not sure where the extra capacity is supposed to come from. We sit with that exact moment, the “I'm quitting everything” feeling, and unpack why it shows up for so many people across work, parenting, relationships, and caregiving. When overwhelm hits, it's rarely about the final task. It's about the invisible load behind it.Our guest, therapist and private practice owner Jacque Tyrrell, helps us name the hidden cost of constant adjusting: the emotional energy it takes to pivot, replan, brace for outcomes, and regulate fear over and over again. We also talk about how quickly we label that internal work as “rumination,” and how reframing it can replace shame with compassion. If you've ever wondered why a “tiny” detail like a school form can trigger tears, this conversation offers a grounded explanation that actually fits real life.We also keep it honest about privilege and access. Not everyone can outsource tasks or carve out time for ideal self-care, and advice that ignores that can feel like one more demand. We share practical strategies that scale: delegating where you can, communicating what's realistic, sorting tasks by urgency, loosening perfectionism, and choosing one next step instead of ten. If you're tired of hustle culture telling you to push harder, this episode offers a better question: what do you have the capacity for right now?If this resonates, subscribe, share it with someone who's carrying a lot, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. "I think there was some empathy for my younger self that I probably didn't have before... I think writing the book, I could look at myself as a seven-year-old girl or a thirteen-year-old with a lot of anger and a lot of reasonable reason to feel abandoned, rather than, wow, I was just really a problem child." — Jacque Gorelick Jacque Gorelick joins Mike to talk about her memoir, Map of a Heart: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Finding the Way Home. The book follows a seemingly ordinary family outing that turns into a medical crisis when Jacque's husband collapses from cardiac arrest on a trail — with their nine-week-old son in the stroller beside her. Woven through that harrowing day is the story of Jacque's rootless childhood, the loss of her mother at age eight, and years of family estrangement. It's a conversation about grief, resilience, the power of writing to heal, and the family we build for ourselves when the one we were born into falls apart. Key Takeaways: Words have power from an early age. Jacque's love of writing started as a child — from clubhouse rules to thank-you notes — and eventually led her to memoir. Distance helps when writing about trauma. Having ten years between the medical crisis and putting pen to paper gave Jacque the perspective to write about it without being consumed by it. Writing memoir can build empathy for your younger self. Revisiting painful childhood memories allowed Jacque to see herself with compassion rather than shame. A cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack. Jacque learned firsthand that cardiac arrest is an electrical event that can strike even a healthy, active person. Caring for a newborn can be grounding in a crisis. The routine demands of nursing and caring for her son kept Jacque anchored during the most terrifying hours of her life. Found family matters. Despite estrangement from her biological family, Jacque discovered that the people who show up unconditionally become the family that counts. Reconnection is possible, even after decades. After more than 30 years of silence, Jacque reconnected with her brother — a reminder that it's never too late, even when it's complicated. Send us Fan MailIf your community is well run, chances are you have residents who have remained in place for decades but with more condominium and HOA owners choosing to age in place, the services you provide and the manner in which you operate your community naturally must change. 24 hour access for caregivers, nurses, and aides and the need for uninterrupted electricity to power life saving devices all bring new concerns. So, what should boards and managers do when care becomes part of the everyday community association lifestyle, and how can families avoid a crisis-driven scramble to ensure care for loved ones?  In this week's episode, host Donna DiMaggio Berger sits down with Jacque Scherfer, Vice President of Best Care Nurses Registry in South Florida, to map out what in-home health care actually looks like, from ADL support with a home health aide to private duty nursing for complex medical needs. They also get candid about continuity of care, why the same caregiver can be a safety net, and the signs families should watch for like falls, medication issues, and slipping hygiene. Along the way, they talk cost, long-term care insurance, elimination periods, and why Medicare usually isn't the answer for ongoing custodial care.  These in-home solutions also come with a host of condominium, cooperative and HOA realities: parking headaches, security access, privacy boundaries with worried neighbors, and hurricane season planning when someone relies on daily support. Donna and Jacque also share what legitimate screening looks like, including Level 2 FBI background checks and license verification, plus why “hiring privately” can backfire when coverage collapses.Conversation Highlights: Conversation Highlights:What in-home healthcare really involves—and how it supports aging in placeEarly signs it may be time to consider in-home care for a loved oneThe most common services families seek from in-home caregiversThe benefits and challenges of community living for seniorsHow caregiver schedules work and what communities should expectHow reputable agencies screen, train, and staff caregiversWhat boards and neighbors should know about background checks, licensing, and insuranceCommon issues in associations involving caregivers—parking, access, and building logisticsHow boards and managers can reduce friction between caregivers and staffWarning signs of elder abuse and financial exploitation every community should recognizeThe risks of hiring caregivers independently vs. through an agencyWhat role boards and managers should (and shouldn't) play when residents are strugglingEmergency planning: what happens if caregivers can't reach clients during disastersRelated Links:Podcast: Are “55 and Older” Communities Still In Demand? A Fresh Story

Some people lose their footing early. For Jacque Gorelick, that unmooring came at eight years old, the morning her mother died. What followed was a childhood she describes as a snow globe someone had shaken and never set down — chaotic, rootless, and full of grief she didn't yet have words for. But grief has a way of waiting for us. And Jacque's memoir, Map of a Heart: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Finding the Way Home (Vine Leaves Press, February 17), is the story of what happens when the past finally catches up — not to destroy us, but to ask us, at long last, to stop running. That reckoning arrived on an ordinary jogging trail. Jacque's husband's heart stopped mid-run while she walked nearby with their nine-week-old baby. In an instant, the fragile, beautiful life she'd worked so hard to build — the partner, the child, the sense of normalcy she'd spent decades chasing — was suspended somewhere between a hospital hallway and a prayer she didn't know she still knew how to say. What emerged in those hours of waiting wasn't just fear; it was a woman who finally let other people hold her. Friends showed up. Community formed. And Jacque — who, like so many children of disruption, had long ago decided that needing no one was the safest way to survive — began to understand that belonging is not something you're born into. It's something you build, one brave, tender act of trust at a time.In this conversation with Olivia, Jacque opens up about writing through trauma in stolen moments while her children were young, the music that carried her back into the hardest chapters, and the unexpected gift of sitting with her memories long enough to realize: they were real. She was there. And somehow, against every odd, she made it through. Map of a Heart is a book for anyone who grew up feeling like they didn't quite belong to a family, a place, or a story — and who's still quietly hoping to find one. It's for the person at the dinner table who doesn't know how to answer "what do you do for Thanksgiving?" without feeling a flash of shame. And it's proof that a life's map doesn't have to begin where your childhood ended.

Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Dr. Jacque Rushin and Robyn Donaldson. Below is a polished, thorough summary of the interview featuring Jacque Rushin and Robyn Donaldson discussing the career and legacy of Dr. Gladys West with Rushion McDonald—along with its purpose, key takeaways, and notable quotes, all drawn directly from the transcript.(Citations reference the uploaded file.) Summary of the Interview On Money Making Conversations Masterclass, Rushion McDonald welcomes Dr. Jacque Rushin (award‑winning business executive, educator, mental health professional, humanitarian) and Robyn Donaldson (2025 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award honoree for global STEM education) to discuss their celebration of Dr. Gladys B. West, a pioneering mathematician whose work laid the foundation for the GPS (Global Positioning System). The conversation explores the intersection of Juneteenth, Black excellence, STEM education, and Dr. West’s life story, captured in her memoir It Began with a Dream. The guests highlight Dr. West as one of America’s last living “hidden figures”—a brilliant yet historically overlooked Black woman whose mathematical genius revolutionized everyday life. They detail how Dr. West rose from sharecropper roots, excelled academically at Virginia State University, earned her master’s and PhD, spent 39 years contributing to government research, and ultimately developed the algorithms and modeling processes that power GPS. They also describe their collaborative effort to create the Westward Bound Program, a life‑skills and STEM‑focused curriculum inspired by Dr. West’s principles of wisdom, endurance, strategy, and precision. Through humorous, emotional, and deeply insightful dialogue, the episode uplifts Dr. West’s accomplishments while discussing mental health, technology dependence, the importance of exposure to STEM pathways for underserved youth, and how the legacy of Black innovators must remain central in cultural celebrations like Juneteenth. Purpose of the Interview 1. To honor and amplify Dr. Gladys West’s legacy She is a living mathematical pioneer whose GPS contributions transformed global navigation and modern technology. 2. To connect her story to Juneteenth’s spirit of liberation and recognition The guests highlight the “delayed recognition” of Black innovators and the importance of acknowledging hidden figures whose brilliance shaped society. 3. To promote STEM exposure in underserved communities Robyn Donaldson emphasizes equitable access to STEM opportunities so children can compete in a global, tech‑driven world. 4. To introduce and promote the Westward Bound Program The curriculum teaches STEM principles, life skills, and personal development inspired by Dr. West’s methodologies. 5. To highlight themes of resilience, humility, and lifelong learning Dr. West’s quiet determination and academic persistence serve as a blueprint for young people and adults alike. Key Takeaways 1. Dr. Gladys West is a “living hidden figure.” Her research and mathematical modeling are the backbone of GPS, impacting navigation, transportation, military systems, and everyday digital tools. 2. Her journey exemplifies brilliance shaped by humility and hard work. Born in 1930 to sharecropper parents, she excelled academically despite segregation, pursued multiple degrees, and overcame racial and gender barriers in government research settings. 3. Juneteenth is the perfect backdrop for honoring Dr. West. Jacque stresses that Juneteenth represents “delayed freedom,” paralleling the delayed recognition of Black inventors and innovators. 4. STEM exposure is vital to equity. Robyn insists that Black children are fully capable of STEM success—they simply lack exposure, not aptitude. Without STEM skills, young people risk being left behind in a robotics‑driven economy. 5. Technology should complement—not replace—human thinking. Jacque cites Dr. West’s personal preference for physical maps over GPS to maintain cognitive sharpness and critical thinking, a warning about over‑dependence on AI and automation. 6. The Westward Bound Program bridges STEM, life skills, and personal development. Built on the acronym “WEST”—Wisdom, Endurance, Strategy, Tracking—the program supports youth, adults, and entrepreneurs seeking direction and resilience. 7. Mentorship, community, and relationships are central themes. Dr. West’s success was nurtured by professors and role models at her HBCU—mirroring how Jacque and Robyn now uplift the next generation. 8. Her story resonates globally and intergenerationally. From college students to young children to adults, the principles from her memoir and program promote self‑belief, vision, discipline, and perseverance. Notable Quotes (All taken directly from the transcript.) On Dr. West’s impact “She’s a living hidden figure… her accomplishments have actually changed our way of living in every discipline of life.” “Her technology… makes these things possible.” On Juneteenth and recognition “Juneteenth is about the delayed freedom of African Americans… and what Dr. West represents is the quiet, often overlooked brilliance that changes the world.” On STEM access “Our kids are not pursuing high‑paying STEM careers, not because of their aptitude, but simply because they have not been exposed.” On Dr. West’s genius “You don’t have to be loud to be a legacy.” “She is just so humble, but she’s just brilliant. She’s like a mathematical genius.” On technology & mental health “She didn’t want to lose her critical thinking by depending on GPS… everything has a place, and it should complement you, not take over.” On resilience & aspiration “You have to believe there is something greater than what you’re standing in.” “From sharecropper to pioneer—you can be someone from humble beginnings and change the world.” #SHMS #STRAW #BESTSupport the show: https://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Bible Reading: Revelation 7:9-12I can't even understand what they're saying," Ezra said as he and his family entered the church building. His family's car had broken down just over the Canadian border, so they now had to go to church at a place in Quebec, Canada, that his dad had heard about. Everything about the church seemed different to Ezra--the language most of all. When everyone started singing hymns, Ezra's dad passed him a book that said Cantiques on the front. "It's a hymnbook," Dad said. He flipped to the correct page and pointed to a line of words in the song. Ezra tried to follow along with the French song, but none of the words made any sense to him.Later, after church was over, Ezra noticed someone waving to him as he and his family left. He waved back, and his dad asked, "Who's that?""Oh, that's Jacque," Ezra explained. "I met him in Sunday school. He helped me understand the French on the papers the teacher handed out whenever there wasn't English underneath it.""I see," his dad said. "I suppose it was a bit confusing for you in the church service and in Sunday school.""You can say that again," Ezra replied."Going to church in a different country is an interesting experience, isn't it?" said Dad. "Though it can be confusing when things are different from what we're used to or we don't understand what's being said, it's good for us to worship God with Christians from other places in the world. We're all part of God's church and are brothers and sisters in Christ, who saved us by dying for our sins. We worship God in the same way, just in different places and languages." Dad smiled. "In fact, the apostle John wrote in the book of Revelation that there will one day be countless people of every nation, tribe, and language worshiping Jesus in heaven.""Including people from Quebec who speak French?" Ezra asked."That's right." Dad turned to see Jacque and his family leaving. "By the way, au revoir means 'goodbye' in French.""Au revoir, Jacque!" Ezra called."Au revoir, Ezra!" Jacque called back. "I hope to see you again!" –Ethan TerryHow About You?Have you ever attended a church in a different country or where a different language was spoken? Church is not simply a building--God's church is made up of everyone who trusts in Jesus, and He saves people from all over the world. Though we worship Jesus in different places and languages, we are all part of God's family, and one day we will worship Him together in heaven.Today's Key Verse:I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. (NLT) (Revelation 7:9)Today's Key Thought:Christians live around the world
