The proliferation of tools and devices designed to be used during lactation has occurred without an accompanying body of research to support it. Parents are receiving hundreds to thousands of marketing messages for these products during pregnancy and lactation, a time when they are especially vulnerable to being influenced about making buying decisions that they are told can impact their ability to breastfeed. In fact, any tool or device designed to support lactation can have a negative impact if used improperly or without indication. Much like the "cascade of interventions" terminology used to describe how labor interventions accumulate, parents can also experience a cascade of lactation interventions. Lactation support providers in every setting need to keep up with the use and indications for these products and understand how to recognize when their use is becoming problematic so that they can educate parents prenatally and provide appropriate lactation care and referrals to a higher level of clinical lactation care or medical care as needed.Evolve Lactation with Christine Staricka IBCLC is a reader-supported publication. Southern Gold Ltd (ASX:SAU) managing director Robert Smillie chats to Proactive after uncovering rare earths at the Jangnam Project in South Korea. In the episode we chat to Rob Smillie, MD of Southern Gold, an exploration company exploring for precious metals in South Korea. They have a highly experienced team with a track record of exploration success in Asia, Australia and Eastern Europe and have a growing Brownfields and Greenfields exploration portfolio they are developing. Rob is an experienced management and exploration professional, with over 30 years of experience, including significant epithermal gold exploration, and is particularly working in Asia for the likes of OK Tedi, Calibre Mining and Oceana Gold. Rob gives us an overview of the company and what they are up to and what's South Korea like as a mining jurisdiction which many of you maybe surprised. KEY TAKEAWAYS Robert's experience has taken him from greenfield exploration to mining, all along the mining sector spectrum, making him well placed to act in any area of the business. South Korea's mineral potential is hugely attractive, and is massively unexplored by modern day standards. The mining business is a very small part of the economy in South Korea, and the rapid industrialisation means that high tech manufacturing is a vital part of the country's growth. There are a number of brownfields and greenfields projects under Southern Gold's belt. The main mine was mined over several levels to around 250 metres. BEST MOMENTS 'It's been a really great career and I've met a lot of tremendous people' 'What attracted us to South Korea was the potential' 'The mining industry has become a small scale industry' 'Despite being a great asset, this has very few holes in it' VALUABLE RESOURCES Dig Deep – The Mining Podcast on iTunes Website: https://www.southerngold.com.au/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/southern-gold-limited Twitter: https://twitter.com/SouthernGoldASX Robert Smillie, Managing Director & CEO - rsmillie@southerngold.com.au VALUABLE RESOURCES mailto:rob@mining-international.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/rob-tyson-3a26a68/ http://www.mining-international.org https://twitter.com/MiningConsult https://www.facebook.com/MiningInternational.org https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC69dGPS29lmakv-D7LWJg_Q?guided_help_flow=3 ABOUT THE HOST Rob Tyson is the Founder and Director of Mining International Ltd, a leading global recruitment and headhunting consultancy based in the UK specialising in all areas of mining across the globe from first-world to third-world countries from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Persönlichkeit – Was macht mich aus?Wer bin ich wirklich? Was macht mich aus? Hintergründe und Studien:Link zur Kurzversion des Big Five TestsLink zum Allgemeinen Interessen-Struktur-Test Link zum Berufe-Navi des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und ForschungLink zum Charakterstärkentest des VIA Institute*Offene Menschen sind kreativer und intelligenter:*Da Costa, S., Páez, D., Sánchez, F., Garaigordobil, M., & Gondim, S. Episode 95 of Jim & Pat's Glasgow West End Chat - Johnny Smillie and Monica Queen of Tenement & Temple - part two The second part of my chat with Glasgow's own music legends Monica Queen and Johnny Smillie - of the band Tenement and Temple. Johnny is known for his accomplished guitar playing, songwriting and as an in-demand music producer and Monica for her musicianship, songwriting and her incredible voice. Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol said, Monica possesses one of the "greatest ever voices to come out of Scotland'. I couldn't argue with that. :-) Apart from their own musical adventures - which stretch back to the 1980s and include the indie rock band Thrum, they have collaborated with, among others: Bell and Sebastian, Chris Connelly, James Grant of Love & Money, Chris Coco. Monica has duetted with none other than Shane McGowan of the Pogues. We chat about how they met, their musical influences, record deals, their adventures in America and working with big-name producers - including our very own Edwin Collins. No Fintan this episode, as he's gadding about, gallivanting and doing things 'dads' do around Christmas. Bah, and humbug. Jon keeps the waffle to a minimum (I KNOW RIGHT) in the intro, [0:00 - 2:51] before introducing Brian Smillie, of 2Mee fame. Brian says the company is experiencing huge growth with a relatively simple offering; it's easy to see how it could resonate with users, not least, as Jon suggests, in an RG context. Ben explains how the talent part works, the potential for building a brand's own comms talent, and much more [2:52 - 35:44].

The Business of Tomorrow: The Visionary Life of Harry Guggenheim: From Aviation and Rocketry to the Creation of an Art Dynasty by Dirk Smillie The first biography of the brilliant and complex Harry Guggenheim by a veteran Forbes journalist. At the turn of the last century, the Guggenheim family ran the most powerful mining conglomerate on earth. Decades later came the Guggenheim museum, which would become the hub of the world's most powerful art brand. But who was behind this transformation? It took three generations of Guggenheims to build the wealth and power in its first era. Yet it was the singular force of Harry Guggenheim who would guide the family's next generation of businesses in to modernity. Part angel investor, part entrepreneur, part technologist, Harry launched businesses whose impact on 20th century America went far beyond the Guggenheims' mines or museum. His visionary investments continue to profoundly influence our world and hold valuable business lessons for billionaire dynasty builders like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, who can only aspire to match Harry's lasting, multigenerational impact. A flawed but brilliant man, Harry Guggenheim was the confidante to six U.S. presidents and a key financial force behind commercial aviation and space exploration, two innovations that catapulted the nation into the future. Epic and intimate, The Business of Tomorrow reveals the groundbreaking life of an American icon.

Richard and Eric take a look at a 2017 Australian research paper that correlates openness to experience and binocular rivalry. The researchers found some very interesting perceptual outcomes, including a connection to inattentional blindness (made famous by the 'Invisible Gorilla' experiment), but does anything found have anything to do with our musical practice (especially for conductors)? It is seen to be true that openness to experience, wonder, and awe are linked to perceptual awareness — how does this play out in teaching and the ensemble experience? Will we miss the guy in the gorilla suit?Antinori, A., Carter, O. L., & Smillie, L. D. (2017). Seeing it both ways: Openness to experience and binocular rivalry suppression. It is a fact that the privilege we were born with affects our chances of success. Not just our socio-economic status, but the colour of our skin, our sexual orientation, and gender all have the potential to be benefitting or limiting factors, due to the oppressive systems that govern the world at large. It's interesting how some people manage to succeed no matter where they start in life, or what knocks them for six on their journey. Whilst others are beaten by the odds. But what is it about the individual that tips the scales? Through my conversation with today's inspiring Woman in CX, I was able to see clearly that one of the determining factors is the drive of the person, and their ability to use any limiting opinions from others as fuel to propel themselves and others towards betterment. Listen in to the incredible Shameem Smillie and I discussing the feminist intersection between race and gender as she shares her journey to becoming her authentic self. From a tough childhood being raised with an absent father and being one of the only mixed race-kids at her town, to dropping out of school at 15 in order to earn money Shameem didn't let anyone or anything hold her back from building the life she wanted and a successful career as a woman in tech. Hear how Natalie went from the RAF to flying solo as a freelance illustrator. Along the way she's found her niche, an agent and a dog... but it feels like almost not enough hours. Here’s some of the key takeaway points: Natalie found her niche of Children's iullstration naturally, it was just what she found herself alway drawn (pardon the pun) to As an illustrator, getting an agent has meant a contsant stream of work (they do the marketing for you) and consistent money (they chase it for you) The weekly Twitter challenge #colour_collective was a great side project for her: the public nature of it gave her accountability, the social nature created new friends and conversations, the weekly nature meant she consistently added to her portfolio in a way she wouldn't have otherwise Natalie found working from home pretty isolating, often not leaving the house - so she got a dog, now she has to go out (and dog walkers are very sociable) Twitter plays a big part in keeping Natalie sane, it really is social Follow people on Twitter whose work you like/aspire to, you often see behind the scenes glimpses too More from Natalie Smillie Natalie's site Natalie on Twitter Useful Links Twitter Colour Collective Challenge Penny Neville-Lee Who the hell is Steve Folland? On today's episode of THE FOOD SEEN, Chef Justin Smillie _demystifies 3 simple cooking techniques: Braising, Roasting & Grilling in his cookbook, _SLOW FIRES. As a young cook in NYC, Justin developed a deep sense of building flavor over time. In his mid 20's, Justin was mentored in Jonathon Waxman's Barbuto, where he cultivated his own Italianesque tendencies, though would later incorporate Japanese bases like dashi into the mix. Pondering ratios of moisture, intensities of heat, reversing expected processes, Justin's graceful touches have found a home at Upland restaurant, noted by his glowing NYTimes review, and lauded Peppercorn-Crusted Short Ribs, all while challenging the convention of what cooking with fire really means. “Roasting a pear can present as many challenges as roasting a filet or a strip.” [20:00]

From Ian Smillie's book - The Land of Lost Content"CUSO's involvement with the Kampuchean refugees began almost by accident, as had its involvement in Thailand during the 1960's: as in other countries, too, CUSO's work in the 'Land of Smiles' originated with one ofthe men involved in the founding of CUSO: Dr. Cyril Belshaw. Director of the Regional Training Centre for the United Nations at The University of British Columbia in 1960, Belshaw was actively involved in the President's Committee for a Canadian Overseas Student Service. Thorough contacts with Lewis Perinbaum and Francis Leddy, he attended the first planning meeting in March 1961 to discuss the idea of a national organization. The following June, at the founding meeting in Montreal, Belshaw seconded the motion which led to the first draft constitution of CUSO. In 1965, however , he was in Thailand , working with the United Nations Technical assistance Board in Bangkok. Seeing the British and American volunteers at work, and aware of the country's manpower gas, he wrote to Ottawa, suggesting that CUSO investigate program possibilities."Darlene Gage who has recently returned from service in Uganda joined me for this interview.Dr. Belshaw won the Utopian World Championship in 2004.
