737. Top 5 Health Issues Women Think Are Normal—But Aren't

The Female Health Solution Podcast

“That's just part of being a woman.” “You're just getting older.” “Maybe you're overreacting.” “It's probably all in your head.” Let's stop right there. Just because something is common doesn't make it normal. Let's break down the top five health issues that women experience far too often—and have been told to ignore. 1. Mood Swings Yes, your mood naturally shifts across your cycle—but when it becomes overwhelming, unpredictable, or makes you feel like you've lost control? That's a red flag. If you find yourself: Crying uncontrollably over small things Snapping in rage over everyday moments Feeling like your emotions are running your life …it's not just “PMS.” It's a hormonal imbalance that needs support. In Eastern medicine, we look at liver health, stress pathways, and how your body detoxes hormones to bring this back into balance. 2. Bone-Deep Fatigue You're not just tired because you're a mom. Or because you're getting older. Or because life is busy. Constant fatigue is your body screaming for help. I personally struggled with undiagnosed thyroid dysfunction after having my first baby—and doctors brushed it off. It took someone finally listening to discover I had a thyroid storm. If you're always exhausted, it's time to stop pushing and start testing. Over-exercising with cortisol dysregulation? That only makes things worse. 3. Weight Gain That Doesn't Make Sense Hormonal shifts in perimenopause and menopause require lifestyle adjustments—but they don't mean inevitable weight gain. Changes in body composition should be met with support, not shame. That means: Updating how and when you eat Increasing protein and muscle support Understanding how hormones like insulin and estrogen affect your metabolism If your weight is changing and nothing you do seems to help, it's time to look deeper than calories in/calories out. 4. Sleep Disturbances That Disrupt Your Life Struggling to fall asleep… or waking at 2am and staying awake until morning? This isn't just “stress.” Poor sleep affects everything from metabolism to detoxification, cognitive function, and weight regulation. Your body releases its highest levels of natural human growth hormone between 10pm–2am. If you're not sleeping deeply, your healing is stalling. Sometimes just a simple tincture, nervous system support, or dietary shift can unlock better sleep and—believe it or not—weight loss too. 5. Irregular Menstrual Cycles Heavy periods, skipped days, clotting, pain, spotting, disappearing and reappearing flow—these are not normal. Your period is a vital sign—a direct reflection of your hormonal health, nutrient levels, stress patterns, and more. A cycle that shifts drastically in length or severity is a major signal that your system is out of balance. A healthy cycle: Runs about 27–29 days, with a 1–2 day buffer Shouldn't feel debilitating or unpredictable Offers feedback about your health over the past 3 months Too many women are dismissed, gaslit, or told their symptoms are just a part of life. But being in pain, exhausted, anxious, or struggling with your body doesn't have to be your baseline. With the Female Hormone Solution Program, we go beyond temporary fixes to create lasting change. We walk with you for 12 weeks to support your body, decode your symptoms, and help you feel like yourself again—stronger and better than ever. And guess what? The waitlist is NOW OPEN. And most of us don't even realize it.In this episode, I sat down with Dr. Robert Melillo, one of the top experts in childhood neurological disorders and the founder of the Brain Balance Achievement Centers. He's helped thousands of families—kids and adults—with ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, tics, anxiety, and more… and he's done it all without medication.Dr. Melillo's theory of Functional Disconnection Syndrome is changing the way we think about the brain. He breaks down how imbalances between the brain's hemispheres affect everything from coordination to behavior to gut health. And he shares how we can not only identify these imbalances early, but also correct them, at any age. This one goes deep into brain development, movement, retained reflexes, immune health, and what we seem to be getting wrong about genetics and mental health. Whether you're a parent, practitioner, or just trying to understand your own brain better, this conversation will reframe how you see yourself and others."Movement was the initiation of brains on the planet, and movement is the initiation of brain development in children." ~ Dr. Robert MelilloAbout Dr. Robert Melillo:Dr. Robert Melillo is a clinician, researcher, author, and one of the world's leading experts on neurodevelopmental disorders. With over 30 years of clinical experience, he's best known for founding Brain Balance Centers and creating the Melillo Method, a multidisciplinary approach to rebalancing the brain through movement, nutrition, cognitive stimulation, and more. Send us a textWhat happens when your career ends but your life continues? The Mental Men, Andy Kang, Pat Rice, Chris Gordon, Dennis Sweeney, and Bob Cherney  return in this deeply personal exploration of retirement, identity, and finding purpose beyond the job that defined you.Bob Cherney, recently retired after decades as a therapist, shares his raw experience of waking up each morning still feeling "there's supposed to be stuff I'm supposed to do." This sentiment resonates powerfully with the group of mental health professionals who've dedicated their lives to helping others through crisis and trauma. Their conversation reveals the unexpected challenges of this transition – from the alarming statistic that 20% of first responders develop serious medical conditions within a year of retirement to the profound identity crisis that can follow when the uniform comes off.The discussion delves into how retirement resembles a grief process – mourning not just the job itself but a way of being in the world. As Dennis reflects, it requires "acceptance of what we can or cannot do" while acknowledging "the grief of what you've lost." For professionals accustomed to emergency response and crisis intervention, the absence of that adrenaline and purpose creates a void that requires intentional filling.Yet within these challenges lie opportunities for growth. The group shares strategies that have helped them navigate this transition: developing hobbies before retirement, volunteering in new contexts, maintaining social connections, and perhaps most importantly – staying curious. As Pat beautifully puts it, "The Fountain of Youth is composed of two elements: keep your legs as strong as you can and stay curious." This curiosity – this willingness to try new things and engage with life in fresh ways – emerges as perhaps the most powerful tool for navigating life's later chapters.Whether you're approaching retirement, supporting someone who is, or simply interested in how we maintain purpose and meaning throughout life's transitions, this conversation offers wisdom, humor, and practical insights from those walking the path. And if so, how do you establish the norms in your own community. Helen puts it to three parenting experts. Meanwhile, as a major oncology conference in the USA hears how cancer patients are now delaying or refusing treatment in favour of miracle diets, essential oils and advice from TikTok influencers with no medical qualifications, Helen factchecks some medical claims with breast cancer surgeon turned patient, Dr Liz O'Riordan. 1/3 of Women Worry That Disclosing Female Health Issues at Work Could Negatively Impact Their Careers

Irish Tech News Audio Articles

Play Episode Listen Later May 14, 2025 4:37

Research released today by Irish Life Health reveals that one-third of women are fearful of negative career repercussions if they disclose female health-related issues at work. The research reveals that almost one-third of women (29%) take sick leave to cope with female health issues, with almost 1 in 5 choosing to take annual leave for this reason. Young women, aged 16 - 34, are much more negatively impacted, with almost half taking sick leave (43%) and one-third (31%) taking unpaid leave to manage female health concerns. Workplace support is a key priority for women, with close to half of women surveyed (44%) stating they would consider moving to a new organisation if it offered better female health supports. However, the research reveals that just 1 in 3 employers (34%) have dedicated policies in place to address female health needs, and fewer than half (41%) of women feel that they get sufficient support from their employers. Many women report female health issues at different stages of life, such as menstrual health challenges, fertility difficulties and perimenopause or menopause issues. These female health issues directly affect some women's ability to work, with 46% citing difficulties related to menstrual health, 38% reporting challenges due to fertility issues, and one-third acknowledging that symptoms associated with perimenopause or menopause impact their work performance. Speaking about these findings, Ann Marie Nestor, Managing Director, Irish Life Health, said: "At Irish Life Health, we are committed to supporting women throughout their health journey, whether at home or at work. The findings on women's health in the workplace are concerning - despite making up half of the adult population, many women still feel uncomfortable discussing their health concerns at work, often fearing a negative impact on their careers. The evidence is clear, supporting women with their health needs is essential. "As we continue to enhance our benefits, addressing the unique health challenges faced by women remains a priority. Irish Life Health is proud to be the first and only health insurer to offer customers direct access to a range of specialist female health services, including a network of GPs who specialise in female health, a new at home female fertility assessment from Hertility, and full cover for an initial consult with a female pelvic health physio. "We are also delighted that Irish Life Health will be at this year's WellFest event, sponsoring the 'WellFem' tent where people can find out more about female health supports and chat with the team of experts about their specific health concerns." Commenting on the findings, Dr. Máire Finn, GP specialising in female health, states: "The findings from this research clearly highlight the issues women face when it comes to female health. I welcome the opportunity to meet with women at the 'WellFem' tent at WellFest to discuss all areas of female health and hopefully break down some of the taboos, unfortunately still associated with female health issues. I would encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about female health or looking for advice to pop down and speak to one of the many experts who are on site all weekend." The Irish Life Health WellFem tent is a brand-new addition to this year's WellFest, dedicated to women's health and offering expert advice, insightful panel discussions, and opportunities to speak with leading female health experts throughout the weekend. Panel discussions will take place across the weekend with Deirdre O'Neill, Hertility, Aoife Harvey, women's health physio, Dr Márie Finn, GP specialising in female health, and the founders of Herology, Dr. Michelle Hone and Dr. Sarah Kelly. In this episode, I sit down with Jennifer Faustino. Our story goes back to 2018, when she first came to train with me at my very first studio. It was a Saturday morning, and she showed up in full glam- full makeup, ready to go. Later, she admitted she had been following me on Instagram for years, and meeting me felt like meeting a celebrity, which still makes me laugh. We trained for few years but then 2020 came. Jen threw herself into work, putting herself last. She gained a massive amount of weight, struggled with severe back pain, exhaustion, and ended up needing back surgery. At one point, she could barely walk.At her lowest, she realized she had no choice but to change. She started working with her doctor, cleaned up her nutrition, lost weight, and on her doctor's advice- came back to lifting with me and BBM.Now, she trains live three to four times a week and, more importantly, has made herself a true priority for the first time in her life.We also talk about her volunteer work at a home for the terminally ill and how that experience gives her daily perspective on what really matters. One of the most emotional parts of this conversation is when Jen talks about the role I played in her comeback and how having the right support and community can pull out the best in you when you feel like you have nothing left. This episode is about taking ownership of your life, no matter how far off track you've gone, and proving to yourself that it's never too late.Jen also shares a powerful message for anyone who doubts themselves: if you think you can't do it- you absolutely can.If you'd like to talk about how I can help you, book a free consultation here: https://monikaamazur.as.me/CoffeeandGoals

Warriors Unmasked

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 15, 2025 44:56

In this jaw-dropping episode of Warriors Unmasked, Chuck Thuss sits down with internationally known wellness physician Dr. Michael Platt, author of Adrenaline Dominance. What starts as a conversation about adrenaline quickly becomes a transformative discussion that challenges everything we've been told about modern medicine, mental health, and the real causes behind conditions like ADHD, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and even weight gain. Dr. Platt explains how adrenaline dominance is an often-ignored root cause behind many chronic health and emotional issues—and how simple, natural approaches like bioidentical progesterone cream, coconut oil, and late-night vegetables can dramatically shift a person's physical and emotional well-being in as little as 24 hours. From PTSD in veterans and athletes to panic attacks, migraines, and road rage, Dr. Platt makes the case that the medical industry is often more interested in symptom management than root-cause healing—and he backs it up with real-life stories and decades of patient experience. This episode is a game-changer for anyone facing emotional stress, mental health struggles, or hormone imbalance—and offers hope through natural solutions that work. ✅ 6 Key Takeaways from This Episode: Adrenaline dominance is behind more conditions than you think — including anxiety, ADHD, depression, and migraines. The body uses adrenaline to compensate for low brain fuel — especially when blood sugar is low during the night. Mental health conditions like anxiety and PTSD can improve dramatically by giving the brain proper fuel and blocking excess adrenaline. Natural progesterone cream (5%, 50mg) is a powerful, over-the-counter way to block adrenaline, insulin, and estrogen safely. Symptoms like road rage, restlessness, insomnia, and nausea can often be relieved within 24 hours of addressing adrenaline dominance. Healing is possible when you treat the root cause—not just the symptoms—and it doesn't have to involve pharmaceuticals.
