In any list of influential tech powers in the world, South Korea would undoubtedly be near the top. In this episode we delve into how the country achieved this status,  transforming the nature of its economy and producing global industry leaders like Samsung and LG Electronics. But  we'll also look to the future, and at how South Korea is working with the international community to build up the world's tech infrastructure. How is Seoul cooperating with other regions and countries when it comes to issues such as regulating the internet? How are issues of data collection and privacy being received in Korean society? Like most globally connected powers, South Korea is also highly attuned to the risk of cyber attacks -  particularly given its volatile neighbour North Korea.  We are delighted to have Dr Michael Reiterer, former EU ambassador to Korea, and now the distinguished professor for international security and diplomacy at the Institute for European Studies in Brussels, on the show. He has specialized in the EU's relations with Korea and Japan during his career, particularly in the security realm. Also joining us is Dr Robyn Klingler-Vidra, a reader in International Political Economy at King's College, London, whose research has focused on how east and southeast nations have developed their tech sectors. For this episode, we are once again partnering with the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy at the Brussels School of Governance.

It's hard to even put into words the value of the conversation with my guest today. No matter where you are on your entrepreneurial journey Candy Valentino shares the real, behind the scenes, look at what it takes to build a profitable business and the tangible steps you need to take to scale. Whether it's the power of keeping the promises we make to ourselves or creating leverage to stay in the game Candy breaks it all down today and I can't wait for you to listen! Candy Valentino is originally from a small, rural north eastern town. Born to teenage parents, she started her multi-million dollar business at 19 years old with no degree, no corporate background, no money (and no internet). She successfully started, scaled, and successfully sold businesses in service, retail, e-commerce, and product manufacturing in addition to creating a vast real estate portfolio as a flipper and investor. At the age of 26, Candy founded a non-profit charity. Through her success in business, she bought and donated a building to the organization. Since then they have saved thousands of lives and later she expanded the mission by adding a second location and creating a 62 acre farm sanctuary. Candy has been actively involved for the last 15 years, personally raising millions for the charity. During her two plus decades as an entrepreneur she has been named to Top Business Leaders 40 Under 40, Top 50 Women In Business, 10 People Making a Difference, Top 10 Business Consultants by Yahoo Finance and was the youngest female to receive the Governor's Award in Entrepreneurship in Pennsylvania. She's been featured and interviewed in numerous TV, radio, magazine and newspaper articles – not only for business and entrepreneurship -- but for her advocacy, charity and philanthropic work – and was just named ‘Persons of Distinction' for business in Arizona. Leveraging her 23 years of experience amassed from creating successful businesses in multiple industries, Candy created Founders Organization. With an unmatched business community, focus on business development and entrepreneur education, Founders Organization supports entrepreneurs in their pursuit of growth, scale and ease in their businesses. Created by actual founders and experienced entrepreneurs, it's no wonder why they've been dubbed the “disrupter” of the business development space. A plant-based protein or delicious comfort food? Why not both?  On this episode of the Making Bank Podcast, Jim Pakulis discusses Boosh, the company that's producing plant-based comfort food. From shepherd's pie to pate, Boosh's products are non-GMO, gluten-free, low in sugar—and taste incredible!  Jim has helped Boosh grow from zero to 16 million in just two years, selling in over 400 stores and now moving into the US market. This May, Boosh went public with a unique IPO structure that has a track recording of excelling. Listen to the episode to hear more of Jim's journey and his advice for young entrepreneurs.  Listen to Josh and Jim discuss plant-based protein: Jim's Entrepreneurial Background (2:39) Alternative meats aren't Jim's first venture in being on the forefront of a new industry. In 2010, he was the CEO WeedMaps and took it public, growing it from zero to 16 million in less than two years.   Jim believes that the alternative meats is the next great industry that will take trillions away from the animal protein market.  Plant Protein vs. Animal Protein (3:57) While Jim doesn't believe people will fully convert to just plant protein, he does think that many will start incorporating more plant protein in their diets.  Boosh (5:30) As more companies enter the alternative meat space, some products are over-processed while others are raw. Boosh produces natural products that are 100% plant-based, non-GMO, gluten-free, and low sugar and sodium. All of Boosh's products meet these requirements. Popular Products (6:47) Boosh's customers love the shepherd's pie and the Bolognese, made in partnership with Beyond meat.  How Jim Joined Boosh (7:53) Jim and his team research companies that they feel meet their metrics—and that's how he discovered Boosh out of Vancouver. Together, with the team at Boosh, they have grown the company to have their own entrees that are sold in over 400 stores. In May of this year, they did a unique IPO structure that has worked for them in the past.  Room to Grow (13:15) While Boosh is in 400 stores, there is still a huge market for them to tackle. Instead of making another non-meat burger, Boosh is approaching the industry with a different style. They are creating and acquiring unique products like pates, and even powdered cheeses.  What Jim Requires in Who He Acquires (17:12) When looking at companies to acquire, Jim looks at certain factors such as management, the industry, debt, and the uniqueness of the product.  The Mission and Millennials (19:30) Jim touches on an imperative point that the history of fast-food taking over in the mid 20th century has created this need to return to fresh farming once again. Additionally, younger generations like Millennials and Gen Z are attracted to products that help preserve the environment. Welcome to America (21:21) Before Jim wraps up, he announces Boosh's move into the US market.  Jim also relays his advice to any entrepreneur: you've got to keep getting up. You're going to face challenges s an entrepreneur and want to quit—but that next day you could have a break through.  Links mentioned: Making Bank - Website https://www.booshfood.com/

This was a very big summer for Emily Rudd. Not only was it announced that she joined the cast of the Amazon series, Hunters, for Season 2 and was set to star in HBO Max's Moonshot alongside Cole Sprouse and Lana Condor, but her star also soared courtesy of the popularity of Netflix's Fear Street trilogy.  Rudd first appears in the second film of the series, Fear Street 1978. Cindy Berman is a Shadyside resident determined to leave the troubled town behind despite the fact that her sister Ziggy (Sadie Sink) is convinced there's nothing they can do -- all Shadysiders are doomed. The reality of their situation comes into focus for Cindy during the summer of 1978 at Camp Nightwing when the Shadyside campers and counselors are targeted by an ax-wielding killer. Given my confidence that Fear Street is bound to become a genre classic and my sky high hopes we'll be watching Rudd's work for years to come, having her on an episode of Collider Ladies Night was an absolute must. Check out this chat to hear all about how Rudd got her start with music videos, what the audition process was like for Fear Street, how they pulled off that gnarly Fear Street 1978 ending and so much more!
