In today’s episode, my guest and I, discuss the themes of ‘making a difference’ and ‘finding purpose’ in regards to pursuing both personal and professional excellence. I feel very lucky to have had, Clint Pulver, on my Run Your Life podcast. Clint is an amazing individual who has committed himself to making a difference in the world through the talents he has worked so very hard at developing within himself. Clint is an award-winning presenter, entertainer, professional drummer, motivational speaker and actor. He’s has performed on America’s Got Talent and starred in motion pictures with actors such as Jack Black and Jon Heder. Clint has shared his message with hundreds of thousands of teachers and students around the globe as well as business organizations. The philosophy he shares is that every single person in the world has unique talents and strengths that can make a difference to others. In developing these talents, strengths, and passions within ourselves, we have the ability to inspire others and to truly change their lives for the better. In today’s episode, you will hear Clint’s powerful story and how one very special teacher changed the course of Clint’s life when he was 10 years old. And as a direct result of this one teacher’s impact, Clint fell in love with playing the drums and has had drum sticks in his hand every day for the past 21 years. Clint’s energy and enthusiasm is contagious and it’s so easy to see why he has had such an enormous impact on the students and teachers he has presented to. The cool thing is that Clint was sitting in his home studio when we recorded this podcast on Skype. I noticed his massive drum kit in the background and presented him with the fun challenge of banging off a live piece for us. He took me up on the challenge and jumped behind his kit and proceeded to play an awesome 20-30 piece on his drums. It was amazing, but unfortunately the microphone couldn’t handle absorbing the sound of this mini-performance, so the quality of audio when he was playing wasn’t very good. BUT, I’m keeping it in as you’ll definitely be able to hear just how talented of a percussionist he is. I encourage you to check out Clint’s website and his FB page which are included in today’s show notes. I sincerely hope you enjoy this episode with Clint and that this conversation helps you to reflect on the talents and strengths you possess and how you are using these skills to positively impact others in your life both personally and professionally. As Clint says, there is a huge difference between being the best in the world and being the best FOR the world. In being the best FOR the world, we can spark hope, wonder, excitement and inspiration. Exactly what the world needs! Thanks for listening to this episode with Clint Pulver. Hope you enjoy it!! Clint’s Bio Clint is from Heber City Utah. He is a graduate of Utah’s premiere Flight Program, having received his pilot’s license from OK3air and Utah Valley University (UVU), where he also received his Bachelors Degree in Speech Communication with high distinction from UVU’s nationally ranked Leadership Program. Clint was very active in college as a Presidential Leader, Orientation Director, UVU Ambassador, and former UVU Student Body Vice-President. He has been a Professional Drummer for over 20 years, having played for various professional musicians and in venues like the Vivint Arena, the Stadium of Fire, and the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. For 6 years he directed the UVU Drumline known as the Green Man Group which he founded in 2010, and continued on to direct the Drumline for the NBA’s Utah Jazz until 2015. In 2012, Clint was voted as one of Utah’s most fabulous people and was recently awarded UVU’s distinguished Young Alumni Award. He has appeared on America’s Got Talent and in several different Feature Films with actors like Jack Black (School of Rock) and John Heder (Napoleon Dynamite).

As Clint began reading it over a month ago, he had a hard time seeing what discussion might make it into a podcast. Sports analogies are overdone in business. Don’t let that get in the way of hearing the powerful messages from today’s podcast guest, Clint Gresham. Clint is a former NFL Player, Super Bowl Champion and author of Becoming. Today’s podcast is rich with raw and real information on what it means to be a work in progress in business and life. The Super Bowl means many things to different people. You might think of the brilliant (or not-so-brilliant) ads in the commercial break. Or you look forward to the halftime show. Or you maybe you actually want to watch the two best teams in the NFL play each other. But if you play football, your ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl. It’s a clear goal you either meet or you don’t.But what happens when you reach your ultimate goal? Do you feel like you’ve “made it?” Do your insecurities disappear? Do you suddenly feel fulfilled? As Clint, will tell you - the answer is no. That may seem obvious, however, Clint’s vulnerability in what he shares about being a work in progress, the false gods we create in our life and how to live an authentic life will inspire you. People on the outside looking in at success probably think you’ve got it all figured out. It doesn’t matter who you are, you’re still a work in progress. It’s what Clint’s new book, Becoming, is all about. In this episode, we dive into how top athletes and the best coaches like Pete Carroll, Dabo Swinney and Nick Saban take a unique approach to setting goals that consistently deliver success. You will love the message and more importantly be able to take the ideas Clint and I discuss and make them actionable in your life today.

As Clint and Truly discover Nick to be more concussed from a recent car accident than he'd been letting on, Team Tiger Awesome gets into the grizzly business of the reboot. Or are they just sequels? Either way, Home Alone is getting the dark and gritty Murder House treatment whether Macauley Culkin wants it or not. Everything from Police Academy to Philadelphia and yes, even Blade, is getting a reboot on this weeks episode. They also taste test some Crystal Pepsi, alienate the Ford Mustang driving population of our fan base and ponder a biopic of one of fast food's most iconic weirdos.

As Clint has discussed in prior episodes, we must not live in the past, but rather in the present. This does not infer however, that we cannot benefit from studying the past to learn from our former successes (and more importantly our failures) so as to better prepare for our potential future. This also does not mean we must act based totally on what worked (or didn't) in prior times, but it gives us the chance to see WHY something may or may not have worked in prior circumstances knowing that future circumstances might be similar but with different contexts or subtle differences that are significant. In the end, it is about preparation. Take a look (back)!

As Clint has discussed in previous podcasts, the healthcare business is about giving of yourself without expectation of getting something in return beyond the satisfaction of a doing a job well done in making a difference. That being said, it does not however necessitate that you are always giving yourself away for free. There is a natural balance that can be achieved, but not by ‘keeping score’. Listen in!

As Clint has echoed repeatedly this past week, teams are a key factor to successfully tackling practically any task in an organization. To that end, Clint shares ideas on creating 10-12 member 'SuperTeams' which drive higher-level initiatives by coordinating and working with sub-teams throughout the organization.
