Burke traces his own path into college football and writing, contrasts the atmosphere of college football with the NFL, and explains why coaches like Carroll and Nick Saban make compelling subjects. We discuss USC's unique Los Angeles moment with celebrity-laced practices, the program's rise under Carroll, and how the Reggie Bush scandal exposed flaws in college football's amateurism model and helped foreshadow NIL-era changes, while sanctions punished players like Matt Barkley who had no role in violations. Recorded: February 6th, 2026 | Welcome back to another episode of Bussin' With The Boys. This week, Will is joined by friend of the show, Clay Matthews. Clay and Will dive into all of the headlines coming out of the NFL Combine from this past weekend. The guys get into what their experience was like at the Combine, for Will, his pro day. The boys get into what they were most nervous about and whether or not Will is more athletic than Clay. Following the intro, Will and Taylor sit down with Super Bowl champion QB Russell Wilson for a real, unfiltered conversation about football, leadership, and the grind of the last few years. The boys kick things off by asking how Russ somehow has time to do everything—business, family, football—and how long he actually wants to keep playing in the NFL. From there, he gets honest about the struggles of the last three seasons. He has bounced around the last couple years and dives into what happened in Denver between him and Sean Payton. Russ breaks down what the quarterback room is like in New York with Jaxon Dart and Jameis Winston. He also talks about his relationship with Pete Carroll while he was in Seattle. Russ gets into how Pete is able to keep his energy so high and what makes him such a great coach. Finally Russ gets into how much longer he wants to play and asks the boys what they did to prepare for life after football. He also gets into what it has been like and how he deals with the critics and “haters” when things aren’t going his way. If you’re into NFL quarterback talk, comeback seasons, leadership, Super Bowl dreams, and behind-the-scenes insight into life as one of the league’s most talked-about players, this one’s for you. RUNDOWN Episode 371 opens with Mitch's Saturday night unraveling after watching Song Sung Blue and realizing the Buddy Holly–impersonating character played by Michael Imperioli is allegedly his celebrity twin — a comparison he loudly rejects as it derails the entire movie. With Hotshot fanning the flames, the show pivots into the annual Prediction Show recap, replaying last year's bold Seahawks takes — including a seven-win forecast and Mike Macdonald job jeopardy — before grading every prediction and crowning a 2025 champion. Mitch revisits last year's Prediction Show, replaying Dave Grosby, Jason Puckett, and Danny O'Neil's confident forecasts for 2025 — from Russell Wilson's salary and Geno Smith's future to Mike Macdonald's job security and a Seahawks Super Bowl run no one predicted. The segment tracks hits, misses, and wildly wrong calls, including gloomy seven-win projections and John Schneider pink slips that never came. With halftime scoring tallied and bragging rights on the line, the stage is set for Episode 372's official crowning of the 2025 Prediction Champion. The second half of the 2025 Prediction Show grading delivers more swings and misses as Mitch revisits bold calls from Dave Grosby, Jason Puckett, and Danny O'Neil on Julio Rodríguez, Cal Raleigh's contract, Paul Skenes, Shohei Ohtani, Tiger Woods, NBA expansion, and Sam Darnold's future. From Oklahoma City's title run to Pete Carroll playoff dreams and wild card chaos involving Jeff Bezos and the Kraken, the predictions range from razor-close to wildly off base. Mitch and Professor Slick bask in the lingering glow of the Seahawks' Super Bowl championship before veering into breaking "news" that Mitch left his iconic bell in Santa Clara — sparking a hilarious Rocky-inspired replacement plan involving Bunco night. The conversation shifts to spring training, where Slick sounds early alarms about the Mariners' pitching depth and offensive ceiling, while Mitch pushes back with optimism centered on Bryce Miller's return to form. Seattle's win reframes the path for Detroit Seattle lifted the Lombardi, and the day after on the Detroit Lions Podcast Jeff Risdon laid it out plainly. The Detroit Lions can follow that model. He even circled February 15 next year as a date this city can chase. Seattle went 10-7 in 2024 and missed the playoffs. They moved on from Pete Carroll. They swapped Geno Smith for Sam Darnold, a quarterback with a lower floor but a higher ceiling. Many mocked that decision. Darnold just won the Super Bowl. That matters for the NFL and for the Lions. Jared Goff can do what Darnold did. Goff is better than Darnold. He does not need to be a lottery-ticket quarterback to win. The league's trend line says a really good team that wins in multiple ways can take it all. That is where Detroit lives. What Seattle did, and how Detroit matches it Seattle won with an exceptional defense. They mixed coverages. Jones and the safeties were disciplined. Devon Witherspoon filled a Brian Branch type of role. The Seahawks generated pressure by committee. No single alpha, but several rushers affected the pocket. It looked more like how the Eagles win than how Detroit typically rushes, but the approach travels in January. On offense, Seattle leaned on a power run game. Kenneth Walker was the MVP. His jump-cut and bounce outside when a linebacker filled the gap flipped downs. Jahmyr Gibbs can do that. He already has. A rookie offensive lineman, Dion Grey Campbell, stepped in and helped. If the Lions are healthy, their line is not behind that group. Taylor Decker's health was a problem last year, but the baseline is strong. Jackson Smith-Njigba took home NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He earned it. Is he that much better than Amon-Ra St. Brown? Different styles, same tier of impact. A healthy Sam LaPorta stacks up better than any tight end Seattle put out there. AJ Barnes, the Michigan man, even snared a touchdown. Detroit has that complementary piece in Brock Wright. The checklist to make it real in Detroit The Lions are close, and the NFL is moving toward how they are built. It still requires boxes checked. Injury luck. A very good Jared Goff season. A strong offseason. Brian Branch getting healthy quickly. More versatility in coverage and sustained pass-rush depth so the pressure never fades, even without one headline star. None of this guarantees a parade. But Seattle proved the window is open for teams like these Lions. The path is not theoretical. It is on film, and Detroit has the personnel to walk it. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #seattleseahawks #samdarnold #genosmith #jaredgoff #jalenhurts #brianbranch #jahmyrgibbs #kennethwalker #devonwitherspoon Learn more about your ad choices.
