I had a recent experience with my great friend Clint Pulver and he shared a really cool drum/life lesson with a young man. The theme of the lesson being that we will get better at things in life as we practice those things. Be okay with not being great at first and stay steady in the pursuit of growth and development. The same applies to drums, mental health, marriage, and all the other things you might be pursuing in this New Year. The 'Greatest Day' mindset is a lifestyle; a way of living every moment of every day with a positive attitude. It is choosing to be happy and live life with energy no matter your circumstances. Today truly is the only day you have to live, shape, and create who you want to become so choose to MAKE TODAY THE GREATEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE! Today I talked to Clint Pulver about his new book I Love It Here: How Great Leaders Create Organizations Their People Never Want to Leave (Page Two, 2021). If you've ever completed an annual employee survey by filling-in-the-bubbles, this episode is for you. Clint Pulver's approach to knowing what employees are thinking (and feeling) has been to pose as if he's a job seeker at that company or organization so he can catch the “vibe” in an anonymous, candid conversation with his would-be colleagues. Why is the Great Resignation happening? Clint suggests it's because workers remember how they were treated when Covid-19 first struck (indifferently) and that a Great Rethinking of careers prompted the Great Resignation. Learn as well about Clint's perspective on managers, and why the ideal type, the mentor manager, is premised on earned trust and being an advocate for those on staff. Clint Pulver is an Emmy award-wining speaker, aka the Undercover Millennial, and also a musician, pilot, and workforce expert whose specialty is employee retention. As a professional drummer, he's appeared in feature films and on America's Got Talent. Dan Hill, PhD, is the author of nine books and leads Sensory Logic, Inc. (https://www.sensorylogic.com). Did you know--you have the ability and choice to make each day amazing? I spent so much time waiting for my circumstances around me to change to make me feel better...and I spent a lot of time waiting. Today---I decide how to make each day amazing with what I have in front of me. I practice living in today with the 4 Cs I will share from Dan Sullivan. Recently I listened to Clint Pulver www.clintpulver.com speak who I recommend this simple idea. He said, "Stop looking at issues and start to look for possibility." If I allow myself to focus on the issues in a given day---this is all I see. When I take a breath and decide what words to put on--I allow myself to start to look at the possibilities and you know what! There are so many---if I just look. As Zig Ziglar said, "if you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time." We must focus our thoughts on the good and put on thoughts that serve us. Today-- let's decide to MAKE TODAY AMAZING!

There are four types of managers in every company: the removed manager, the buddy manager, the controller, and the mentor. For employees, there are two characteristics that can make or break a working relationship. The first is standards. In order to grow, managers need to have expectations. But are they able to walk the walk, or just talk the talk? The second is connection. Are they able to empathize with their employees? These are some of the questions we talk about with this week's guest, author and Undercover Millennial Clint Pulver. He's spent the last several years interviewing employees candidly about their experiences working for different companies. The one thing that comes up again and again is it's all about the management. As a manager, you're the No. 1 reason employees stay or go. That's why it's important to understand your style and work to continually improve. Pulver says the magic happens when people become mentor managers. If you're able to have high standards and good, empathetic connections, you can build a workplace that people won't want to leave.
