It smells like a freakshow on this episode of The Adamantium Podcast as we're joined by vocalist, Johannes Eckerström, of Swedish heavy metal band, Avatar. We discuss their next album plans and how it will diverge in theme and style from their last two, Hunter Gatherer & Avatar Country. We also talk about the conception and importance of the clown makeup, their ambitious Kickstarter film featurette, “Legend of Avatar Country: A Metal Odyssey,” and how even their death metal is influenced by artists like ABBA and The Beatles.

We had the pleasure of interviewing AVATAR over Zoom video/audio! The heavy metal 'n' roll dark madcap visionaries collectively known as AVATAR are ambitious, Swedish rock sorcerers of the highest order. They smash the boundaries between the band, theater troupe, and cinematic masterminds with a series of celebrated albums and videos, and the immersive world of Avatar Country, a fantastical land where metal rules supreme. In keeping with their customary larger-than-life-ness, the band is back with not one but TWO brand new songs.Avatar have shared the official music video for "Going Hunting," directed once again by Johan Carlén, and fan track "Barren Cloth Mother." The black and white, animated visual for "Going Hunting" features a giant insect as its protagonist, faceless men in suits, the band performing, and much more in its storyline. It's a glorious and cinematic visual, which is expected from the band. The band has also announced its signing with a new label. They are now part of the Thirty Tigers roster and have launched their own Black Waltz Records imprint. We want to hear from you! I've been lucky enough to know these lovely Swedes since they first came to America on tour for their album 'Black Waltz.' Now with the release of their 7th studio album the band Avatar are ready to pay glory to their king and welcome us to 'Avatar Country' as I sit down for a long conversation with lead singer Johannes Eckerstrom. We go over Avenged Sevenfold and Breaking Benjamin's performances at the BOK in Tulsa, we go into Machine Head's new album "Catharis", dig into Jared James Nichols album "Black Magic" and then review the King's residue and Avatar's new album "Avatar Country". We play a track from Forsaken Few, one of the many bands on this weekend's HolataFest. The boys of the MHOD review the latest Avatar album, Avatar Country! Avatar Country is the seventh studio album by Swedish metal band Avatar, released on January 12, 2018. Avatar released a music video for the single, "A Statue of the King" on October 24, 2017, directed by longtime collaborator Johan Carlén.[4] Another video was released on December 19, 2017 for "The King Wants You", once again directed by Johan Carlén. The introduction track, "Glory to Our King" is a rendition of the Swedish royal anthem "Kungssången". Notably, every song on the track listing has the word "King" in its name.
