The Queenship of Mary: Mary's Role in Our Salvation and Peace Today's Homily celebrates the octave of the Feast of the Assumption and . . . . . . the 50th anniversary of the Shrine, reflecting on Mary as Queen of Heaven, Earth, Peace, and All Hearts. Her queenship is not merely an honorific but a real authority rooted in her “yes” to God at the Annunciation, when she freely accepted to bear Christ, changing the universe forever. Her dignity, beauty, and authority exist not for herself but for our salvation, showing her humility as the “handmaid of the Lord.” Mary's queenship continues in her intercession, especially as Queen of Peace, and Queen of All Hearts, bringing grace to human hearts scarred by violence. The faithful are encouraged to entrust themselves to her through acts of consecration, imitating her faith and service so that Christ may be more fully received in their lives and in the world. At the end of the Homily members who have been preparing for the Act of Total Consecration were invited to the altar for a special prayer. Hear more within this Meditation Media. Friends of the Rosary,We celebrate today the feast of Our Lady of Częstochowa, also known as the Black Madonna. The icon enshrined in Jasna Góra (Bright Hill) Monastery in Częstochowa, Poland, was painted by Luke the Evangelist on a cypress wood panel from a table used by the Holy Family in Nazareth. This Byzantine icon was discovered by St. Helen, the mother of Emperor Constantine and enshrined in the imperial city of Constantinople, where it remained for the next 500 years. The image was then brought to Poland in the 14th century. The image of Our Lady of Częstochowa is associated with several miraculous events. After the liberation of Poland from Nazi occupation, 1.5 million people gathered at Jasna Góra in 1945 to rededicate the nation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Our Lady's intercession is credited with the liberation of Poland from Communist rule.Pope John Paul II visited the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa four times during his pontificate. The holy painting enshrined at Częstochowa has been a lighthouse of hope during centuries of hardship and defeat. Today, the Shrine of Our Lady of Częstochowa attracts millions of people who love and honor Our Lady's intercession. It is known as the “Black Madonna” because of the soot residue that discolors the painting, a result of centuries of votive lights and candles burning in front of it.Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New York• August 26, 2025, Today's Rosary on YouTube | Daily broadcast at 7:30 pm ET

Photography is a journey, and sometimes that journey intersects with another, and that's what today's episode is all about. For those who don't know, the Camino de Santiago or Way of St. James is a network of pilgrim ways all leading to the Shrine of the Apostle James at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain. And a couple of months ago, it was completed by a friend of the podcast, James McFarlane. James and Alex sit down to talk about the journey, the photography, and how it changed him. It's something a little different for the podcast, but something that needed to be done. Fr. Elias Mary Mills, F.I. served as Rector of the Shrine Church at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Lacrosse, Wisconsin from 2016 to 2021. He was ordained in May of 2000. In Today's Show: When would the quality of penance be excessive or lax? What would be useful advice for knowing what penance(s) are apt for someone? What is your take on Catholic AI as a ministerial tool? Should we start a modern crusade by converting AI to Catholicism so that it will then be compelled to convert the whole world? What does this say about the training and prayer lives of most priests if AI does a better job at answering questions about the spiritual life? Our Lady of Fatima told the children that souls would go to Hell for sins of the flesh. Can you please elaborate on that? I'm looking for a recommendation for a good book on the Holy Spirit. Can you help? Why can't any Pope successfully consecrate Russia the way Our Lady requested? If someone is murdered on holy ground and is not a practicing Catholic but overall a good person, do they receive a special grace sparing them from eternal damnation? There seems to be tension between the ascetic demands of traditional Catholicism and the emphasis on emotional well-being in modern psychology. How can we avoid both stoicism and self-indulgence, and where do spiritual direction and therapy intersect responsibly? Do I really have to deny myself of everything in the world just to follow God? I've been reading the works of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross. Is it still possible, or even appropriate, for laypeople to aspire to the mystical path in a world so noisy, fast, and disordered? How can we safeguard against deception in this pursuit? I'm a newer convert and I really want to read the Bible more, but it's a bit overwhelming. Where should a Catholic beginner start, and are there any books I should avoid reading out of context? How can a traditional Catholic single person navigate dating when most people, even Catholics, don't seem to share these values? Hello to you listening in Seattle, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more to visit history) for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Recently I read a comment on Substack about the changes being wrought by 47 and his criminal cabal to erase - as much as obscenely possible - evidence of slavery in America thereby making history disappear. Yes, many have tried to make history disappear but the stories, the oral histories, the voices, the art, books and photographs remain. Not all - but enough to stand witness. One such book, The Ghosts of Segregation, was authored by our very own Whidbey Island writer and photographer, Richard Frishman who saw what 45's administration was doing and had to do something to defy it.   Unexpectedly, while researching the Ghosts of Segregation, I found my way to the Panama Hotel in Seattle which some of you may remember as the hotel featured in the novel, The  Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford. The Panama Hotel remains the repository of personal belongings stored there by some of the 8,000 people of Japanese ancestry who were forced from Seattle and into internment camps (known as War Relocation Centers) set up in Midwestern states as a result of Executive Order 9066. They had one week's warning.Eventually, over 120,000 men, women and children of Japanese ancestry were forced from their homes, businesses and farms on the Pacific Coast in a systematic, government sponsored exile of innocent people. Most of them were United States citizens. The incarceration turned US citizens into refugees in their own country. But the story is still alive staving off erasure. A grant from the National Park Service helped researchers document, catalogue and map the contents of suitcases, trunks, and boxes, over 8500 items left in the hotel basement. Because of the historical value of the Panama Hotel, it was designated as a National Treasure in 2015. Today the Panama Hotel serves as a living time capsule, a shrine to a community, and the site of the Japanese American Museum of Seattle.  Story Prompt: How might we change the future with understanding and compassion so as to defy fear and hatred of The Other? Write that story and tell it out loud!  And for inspiration check out the many links in the Episode Notes to access the Ghosts of Segregation as well as the Panama Hotel.   The Ghosts of Segregation by Richard FrishmanClick HERE to listen to the author, Rich Frishman tell you about his project in a short interview Click HERE to access a book discussion about The Ghosts of Segregation at University of Virginia Click HERE to visit: My Favorite Places - Panama Hotel - Ralph Munro former Secretary of StateClick HERE to read about the Japanese American Museum of SeattleClick HERE to read National Trust for Historic Preservation; Asian American & Pacific Islander History;  Panama Hotel; Histories of Loss & ResilienceClick HERE to visit Panama Hotel - Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie FordClick HERE to visit the Panama Hotel & Owner/Caretake Jan Johnson's scrapbookClick HERE to visit the Mysteries of the Panama HotelClick HERE to read The Many Lifetimes of the Panama Hotel - Stories of the Unjustly ImprisonedYou're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!"
