Welcome to Episode #108 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with Bright Dog Red's founder, drummer and bandleader, Joe Pignato. Something of a staple to see these episodes now, this marks Joe's fourth appearance on the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST as we discuss the band's fifth album since their initial debut 'Means to the Ends' in 2018 - a remarkable statistic and a testament to the band's boundless levels of creativity. Renowned as an improvising collective from New York, Bright Dog Red's new album, 'Under the Porch', continues to present the band's unique vision for an all-encompassing approach to modern-day jazz celebrating inspirations from hip-hop, electronica and spiritual jazz. Thanks to their long-running association with one of the leading labels for contemporary and forward-thinking jazz music, Ropeadope Records, Bright Dog Red continue to deliver music that both challenges and inspires and 'Under the Porch' marks an exciting inclusion within the band's ever-expanding catalogue. We hope you enjoy this episode where we discuss the new album, the inclusion of bass icon Tim Lefebvre as part of the group's line-up as well as live performances and streaming during the pandemic. www.blueingreenradio.com www.blueingreenradio.com/p/listenlive.html TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD The Blue-in-Green:PODCAST runs in conjunction with the online radio station, Blue-in-Green:RADIO which celebrates 21st century soul, jazz, funk, Latin & hip-hop music. Welcome to Episode #86 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with Bright Dog Red drummer and founder, Joe Pignato. The improvisational jazz collective from Albany, New York, are set to release their fourth album with Ropeadope Records - a fantastic live set recorded in November 2020 at Shapeshift Lab studios which sees its official release June 2021. Entitled 'In Vivo', the live and improvised set gives wonderful insight to how Bright Dog Red create music in this context and it's genuinely a thrilling set. The band's debut album, ‘Means To the Ends’ (Ropeadope Records, 2018), served as a fascinating introduction to BDR’s incomparable concoction of improvised jazz boldly mixing with elements of hip-hop and electronica; their follow-up record, 'How's By You?', would come as soon as the following year and incredibly seemed to plunge the band deeper within its own creation of psychedelic electronica but still managing to see them soar under these even more extreme conditions. 'Somethin' Comes Along' (2020) saw BDR revisit the rule book once again for a two-disc album showcasing some stunning compositions brought to life by an awesome line-up of musicians. Imran caught up with Joe Pignato to discuss 'In Vivo', the day of recording at Shapeshifter, Joe's production moniker of u.joe and what's next for Bright Dog Red. www.blueingreenradio.com TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD The Blue-in-Green:PODCAST unveils new episodes on the first, second and third Mondays of the month. Bright Dog Red is making it up as they go. Literally. Bright Dog Red is a collective of adventurous musicians based in New York spearheaded by drummer, Joe Pignato, who perform and record all of their music through free improvisation. Although improvisation is at the center of Bright Dog Red, it’s not just jazz – you’ll also hear equal parts hip hop, electronica, psychedelia and noise influences as well. Bright Dog Red just released their new record, Somethin’ Comes Along, a 2 CD set that takes the listener on a journey through their spur-of-the-moment creativity. On today’s episode, we’ll talk to band members Joe Pignato and Eric Person, and hear three tracks off the new record: “Somethin’ Comes Along,” “Dagnabbit,” and “Sharper Than a Thumb Tack.” Follow Bright Dog Red @brightdogred pc: Zak Westbrook Films
Welcome to Episode #64 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran secure time with Bright Dog Red drummer and founder, Joe Pignato. The improvisational jazz collective from Albany, New York, are set to release their third album in three years with Ropeadope Records. With their debut album, ‘Means To the Ends’ (Ropeadope Records, 2018), serving as a fascinating introduction to the band’s incomparable concoction of improvised jazz boldly mixed with elements of hip-hop and electronica, their follow-up record, ‘How’s By You?’, would come as soon as the following year. While Bright Dog Red’s debut masterfully dabbled within these different genres and styles, ‘How’s By You?’ incredibly seemed to plunge the band deeper within its own creation of psychedelic electronica but still managed to see them soar under these even more extreme conditions. 'Somethin’ Comes Along’ sees Bright Dog Red revisit the rule book once again for a two-disc album showcasing some stunning compositions brought to life by an awesome line-up of musicians. Imran caught up with Joe Pignato to discuss the new album, releasing - and making - music during quarantine and all things Bright Dog Red. www.blueingreenradio.com TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD The Blue-in-Green:PODCAST unveils new episodes on the first, second and third Mondays of the month. Bright Dog Red is perhaps the most unique band to grace the halls of Ropeadope, and that's quite an accomplishment. Founded by drummer and composer Joe Pignato, BDR is comprised of a rotating cast of players. Their new album, How's by You? , features founding members Cody Davies (electronics) and Anthony Berman (bass), as well as long standing members Mike LaBombard (tenor sax) and MC Cully (rhyming and freestyling). The collective has its genesis in a series of freewheeling jam sessions led by Pignato, a professor at the State University of New York, Oneonta. Bright Dog Red hits the stage without charts or set list - they simply start playing and improvise, taking cues from each other and from the audience and room. It's adventurous, and due to the skill and rapport of the players, surprisingly cohesive. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Bright Dog Red - the name itself a deliberate juxtaposition of the familiar. Led by Joe Pignato, BDR is a collective of teacher and students who go on stage or into the studio and simply improvise. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
