If we can play something you love then that's great, but if we can play a song or two you may not have heard before, then that's even better! Music on today's show celebrates the music of the dearly departed #AngieStone. With the incredibly sad news of Stone's passing on the 1st March, we're honouring her music and memory the only way we know how. Charting a fantastic career beginning in the 1970s as a part of the Sequence, Stone saw further success as a part of Vertical Hold before becoming a solo artist in her own right with the release of 'Black Diamond' in 1999. A slew of solo albums would follow cementing Angie Stone as a leading name amidst the early years of neo-soul. Tonight's show showcases an enthralling selection of tracks from Stone's solo catalogue including remixes, b-sides and collaborations featuring names like #TheNeptunes #Guru #MacyGray #DAngelo #AliciaKeys #Eve #Calvin #Jaheim #PeerDu #Azire #ReelPeople #RaphaelSaadiq + more... http://www.blueingreenradio.com http://www.blueingreenradio.com/p/listenlive.html TuneIn: https://bit.ly/2LBK0BD

As founder of Futuristica Music, Simon S has always strived for the label to showcase an exemplary perspective on progressive and innovative new sounds from various quarts of the contemporary soul music landscape. Just from a quick assessment of the label's recent releases, there's the neo-soul sounds of the sensational Georgie Sweet, the hip-hop inspired aesthetic of vocalist LaNote, the soulful electronica of As Valet's 'Virgo Stellar' project and of course the always exceptional releases of Deborah Jordan, most recently via her phenomenal pairing with K15 for 'HUMAN'. The Simon S helmed Jazz Chronicles and Peter Franks projects afford the DJ and producer the opportunity to nurture his affections for a series of interwoven jazz-meets-hip-hop narratives with The Peter Franks Group in particular forging ahead with a creative path born of samples-based compositions fused with lush live instrumentation. And forging "ahead" in this instance is the key term. While the initial Peter Franks release in 2018 sought to pay loving tribute to influences and inspirations via a series of exquisite, nostalgia-driven compositions in 'Days Past', 2023's 'Days Ahead' - as the title suggests - is an infinitely more assertive and confident record. Its commitment to creating its own identity is very much an ideal that gives focus to the album and unifies much of its context. With Simon S/Peter Franks credited for the album's production along with drums, samples, bass, keys and percussion, the 'Days Ahead' table is set for an exalted line-up of contributors including Amanda Whiting, Nat Birchall, Robert Mitchell and Marc Rapson among others. We were fortunate to catch up with Simon to discuss the making of the new record, the collaborators involved and discuss some upcoming Futuristica info for the year. www.blueingreenradio.com www.blueingreenradio.com/p/listenlive.html TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD The Blue-in-Green:PODCAST runs in conjunction with the online radio station, Blue-in-Green:RADIO which celebrates 21st century soul, jazz, funk, Latin & hip-hop music. Headed up by guitarist Bestwick and trumpeter Graeme Flowers, the duo set about this new musical venture during the pandemic lockdown in 2020 resulting in their debut 'Hidden Depths' released through Ropeadope Records that same year. UK-born but now residing in Helsinki, Chris Bestwick boasts an incredible resume that has seen him perform alongside revered names including James Taylor and Ali Slimani as well as creating music as part of the Finnish collective Timeforsoul, not to mention his releases as a solo artist in his own right. Bestwick's credentials are matched by his Archie the Goldfish collaborator, Graeme Flowers, who can not only boast serving as a member of the funk & soul band Down to the Bone but also chalking up performances with the Brand New Heavies and Kyle Eastwood among countless more names. The sublime five-track, instrumental EP presented some inspired compositions that has since paved the way for even more music under "Archie" umbrella. Last year's 'Water & Light' EP saw the inclusion of vocalist Nadia Basurto amongst the band's line-up along with the incredibly versatile Kishon Khan on Rhodes and a new label home with the hotbed of global grooves, Funkiwala Records. As co-founder of Funkiwala along with trombonist Justin Thurgur, Khan is a boundlessly talented musician and composer in his own right having performed with an array of artists and bands as well as having released a slew of projects as founder of Lokkhi Terra. We hope you enjoy this episode where we discuss the formation of Archie the Goldfish, its brilliant releases to date and the challenges of releasing music in today's streaming-driven market. www.blueingreenradio.com www.blueingreenradio.com/p/listenlive.html TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD The Blue-in-Green:PODCAST runs in conjunction with the online radio station, Blue-in-Green:RADIO which celebrates 21st century soul, jazz, funk, Latin & hip-hop music. Welcome to Episode #106 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with singer and songwriter, Randa Khamis. It's incredible to think that Randa and The Soul Kingdom's debut, self-titled album was released as far back as 2009. Still sounding as fresh and innovative now as it did upon first release, Randa Khamis led the charge with a personality-driven, powerhouse vocal. Backed by an all-star cast whose initial iteration featured Lance Ferguson (Menagerie, The Bamboos) on guitar and Ivan Khatchoyan (Cookin on 3 Burners, The Traffic) on drums, Randa and The Soul Kingdom went on to steal hearts of funk & soul fans the world over through dare-you-to-sit-still tracks like 'Feel It In Your Soul', 'Not Gonna Let You' and 'Lysistrata's Quest'. With two albums released through the revered Freestyle Records, this year marks the tenth year since the band's last album release and excitingly offers a thrilling reinvention of their sound. With the release of the collective's third full-length album, 'Put Your Hands Up' presents Randa's inimitable vocal with broader soundscapes that dabble within the realms of classic rhythm'n'blues, 60s psychedelic soul and blazing funk & soul numbers. We hope you enjoy this episode where we discuss Randa's past releases, the serendipitous set of circumstances that kick-started her career as well as the brand new album, 'Put Your Hands Up'. www.blueingreenradio.com www.blueingreenradio.com/p/listenlive.html TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD The Blue-in-Green:PODCAST runs in conjunction with the online radio station, Blue-in-Green:RADIO which celebrates 21st century soul, jazz, funk, Latin & hip-hop music. Released through Root Records/DeepMatter, Wilde's debut four-track EP - 'Believe in Things' - delivers as a wonderful response to events of the last year, while also serving as a project indicative of Manchester's booming hub of beats-inspired productions. From its celebration of diverse club culture, hip-hop, dance and electronica, Manchester has long been at the forefront of an open-minded approach to music. And it's a perspective shared by Wilde and wonderfully realised by the producer and musician. 'Believe in Things' boasts intricately woven, multi-textured compositions that celebrate hip-hop's influence on contemporary UK jazz. Having been surrounded by strong hip-hop influences for years, Wilde's affection for the piano eventually grew following introductions to jazz and the music of revered Miles Davis collaborator Bill Evans, jazz-funk legend Herbie Hancock and "American classical music" icon Ahmad Jamal.
