This podcast series typically sees Imran (London, UK) and Rhonda (California, USA) delve into some of their favourite releases from the 90s and for this episode but this episode sees the duo take the conversation in a slightly different direction than usual. Today's episode finds Imran and Rhonda discussing Kate Nash's comments at the end of last year stating "The Music Industry Is Corrupt And Fails Artists Completely" - Nash made further headlines by admitting to raising money for her tour by providing "personal" pictures via her OnlyFans page. While the news proved shocking to many, it also opened up conversation about the industry today so we discuss what the industry's responsibilities actually are to its artists and we also ask, with the burgeoning threat of AI, are big budget record labels and streaming services the real enemy anymore? www.4everinelectricdreams.com/ Blue-in-Green:RADIO is a London-based online internet radio station which celebrates 21st century soul, jazz, funk, Latin & hip-hop music. www.blueingreenradio.com TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD

This podcast series typically sees Imran (London, UK) and Rhonda (California, USA) delve into some of their favourite releases from the 90s and for this episode but this episode sees the duo take the conversation in a slightly different direction than usual. The show today is inspired by Andre 3000 and his comments made to GQ in November 2023 about rapping as a 48 year old man confirming sadly that he has no inclination to ever rap again and that he would feel "inauthentic" in doing so, even jokily asking what he would even tap about before citing colonoscopies and bad eyesight as potential topics. Andre's perspectives haven't been shared by all of his contemporaries as 2024 saw the release of projects by LL Cool J (56) who released 'The Force', Common (52) collaborated with Pete Rock for Part 1 of 'The Auditorium', Snoop Dogg (53) reconnected with Dr Dre for 'Missionary' amongst a slew of other projects from notable hip-hop icons. So we're ultimately discussing rapping at 50. Is hip-hop a young person's game? Is rapping at 50 something to be embraced or should rappers have the courtesy to know when the time is right to ride off into the sunset? www.4everinelectricdreams.com/ Blue-in-Green:RADIO is a London-based online internet radio station which celebrates 21st century soul, jazz, funk, Latin & hip-hop music. www.blueingreenradio.com TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD

As these things happen when we are on the road, we met a Canadian in Ostend, Belgium. Radio Juxtapoz was on the road for the annual Crystal Ship and as we love with the mural festivals we get to see the process, the ideas and the creation of so many works from so many different practices. Katie Green creates masks, what she calls "intimate watercolour personas that are eerie and ethereal." On a mural level, this requires participation and something quite unique.  Her project, as she notes on her IG, "is a community driven process which uses handmade masks as a way to build community, find healing, and explore aspects of self. By designing and wearing a mask, invited participants are given the opportunity to present society with an internal, alternate, or imagined part of themselves. The mask creates a safe space—both expressive and anonymous—to share oneself with the outside world."Like Ostends' beloved James Ensor, "Katie uses masks as a symbol for intrigue. Masks are a passageway between what we perceive on the outside and the mystery of what lies beyond. In Ensor's work, his masks are unpredictable and we are invited to befriend our own imaginations as we ponder the hidden subjects. In this project masks become an extension of self, where each participant is guided through a curated process that brings them closer to their internal landscape." So for Crystal Ship, Green worked with the community to create masks, and chose this particular mask as an ode to the city and Ensor's work. And we have her on this episode of Radio Juxtapoz. The Radio Juxtapoz podcast is hosted by FIFTH WALL TV's Doug Gillen and Juxtapoz editor, Evan Pricco. Episode 137 was recorded by Gillen in Ostend in April 2024 during Crystal Ship. Follow us on @radiojuxtapoz

We want to extend a special thanks to our friends over at Blue-in-Green:RADIO for allowing us to share the enclosed audio. Since the shocking, and frankly horrifying, events of last month, the radio station has made the difficult decision to end phone-ins during their live broadcasts. Although a difficult decision to make, it is one that many have understood to be the only course of action available. Despite the police maintaining that no laws were actually broken, the radio station has no recourse but to put the safety of its presenters and its listeners as its top priority. Blue-in-Green:RADIO have issued an official statement and understandably want to draw a line under the matter. Releasing the full and unedited audio is the radio station's final comment on the matter. Please note that should you decide to listen that discretion is advised as the recording contains extremely strong language and distressing scenes. Welcome to Episode #131 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with London-based guitarist and composer, Mike De Souza. Having just released his second full-length project at the end of 2023, 'Chrysalis' further held the distinction of having found a home on the revered Spanish label, Fresh Sound Records. Despite being a project that initially found its life during the quarantine period, 'Chrysalis' became an album about hope through adversity and a stunning piece of work to add to De Souza's burgeoning catalogue. With two albums and an EP ('Road Fork', 2018) now under his belt, De Souza continues to cement his name as a solo artist in his own right in addition to his already stunning résumé which includes a slew of releases via collaborative projects, session work and global touring duties. Perhaps best known for the genre-defying Big Bad Wolf project which generated the fantastic 'Pond Life' album in 2017 and was subsequently followed by a selection of standalone singles, De Souza can further boast collaborations with Twospeak, Alex Paxton, Simon Read and Phil Meadows as well as having secured touring duties alongside the revered US trumpeter Terrence Blanchard. We were grateful to catch-up with Mike to discuss the new album, his early connections to music and the guitar, the creative process and Big Bad Wolf. We'd love to extend a gratious thank you to Mike for his time and for gifting us with a really fascinating conversation. As a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Eki has cultivated a strong reputation for her inspired and all-encompassing approach to music-making. Always revered for her ability to incorporate various genres and styles within her music - from jazz to neo-soul to twinges of electronica - her current, fifth album release '還 (Kaeru)', ushers in an even more ambitious creative scope... Recorded in Japan alongside a team of musicians, the combination of cultural styles breeds sensational results and provides an incredible new aesthetic to anything we've heard Shola bless previously. Welcome to Episode #127 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with DJ, producer, Simon S. As founder of Futuristica Music, Simon S has always strived for the label to showcase an exemplary perspective on progressive and innovative new sounds from various quarts of the contemporary soul music landscape. Just from a quick assessment of the label's recent releases, there's the neo-soul sounds of the sensational Georgie Sweet, the hip-hop inspired aesthetic of vocalist LaNote, the soulful electronica of As Valet's 'Virgo Stellar' project and of course the always exceptional releases of Deborah Jordan, most recently via her phenomenal pairing with K15 for 'HUMAN'. The Simon S helmed Jazz Chronicles and Peter Franks projects afford the DJ and producer the opportunity to nurture his affections for a series of interwoven jazz-meets-hip-hop narratives with The Peter Franks Group in particular forging ahead with a creative path born of samples-based compositions fused with lush live instrumentation. And forging "ahead" in this instance is the key term. While the initial Peter Franks release in 2018 sought to pay loving tribute to influences and inspirations via a series of exquisite, nostalgia-driven compositions in 'Days Past', 2023's 'Days Ahead' - as the title suggests - is an infinitely more assertive and confident record. Its commitment to creating its own identity is very much an ideal that gives focus to the album and unifies much of its context. With Simon S/Peter Franks credited for the album's production along with drums, samples, bass, keys and percussion, the 'Days Ahead' table is set for an exalted line-up of contributors including Amanda Whiting, Nat Birchall, Robert Mitchell and Marc Rapson among others. We were fortunate to catch up with Simon to discuss the making of the new record, the collaborators involved and discuss some upcoming Futuristica info for the year. www.blueingreenradio.com www.blueingreenradio.com/p/listenlive.html TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD The Blue-in-Green:PODCAST runs in conjunction with the online radio station, Blue-in-Green:RADIO which celebrates 21st century soul, jazz, funk, Latin & hip-hop music. Welcome to Episode #117 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which this week sees Imran connect with singer-songwriter, Carmy Love. As a vocalist for New Street Adventure - whose debut release with Acid Jazz came in the form of 'No Hard Feelings' in 2014 - Love is accustomed to sharing the studio and stage with premier London-based talent within the realms of funk and soul so the recent transition to solo star in her own right is absolutely a welcome move. Having amassed a series of incredible singles for the London-based Big AC Records including 'Thinkin' About You', 'Together Again' and 'Rebel', Carmy's fantastic vocal sits right at home over the blissful 60's-style, horn-heavy soul soundscapes. We catch up with the gloriously warm-hearted and effervescent Carmy Love to discuss the conclusion of the Big AC Soul Revue tour, the transition to solo success and the upcoming release of her new single 'In The Morning' due 2nd December www.blueingreenradio.com TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD The Blue-in-Green:PODCAST runs in conjunction with the online radio station, Blue-in-Green:RADIO which celebrates 21st century soul, jazz, funk, Latin & hip-hop music. Welcome to Episode #114 of the Blue-in-Green:PODCAST which sees Imran connect with Deborah Jordan and K15. While the inspired pairing of revered singer and songwriter, Deborah Jordan, alongside the boundless versatility of producer and musician Kieron "K15" Ifill for a whole album seemed too good to be true, this is actually a project that each of their respective roads had been converging towards for years. With a musical union that stretches as far back as Jordan's sophomore album release 'What You See' (2011), K15's immaculate production has become a firm staple within her music since having gone on to contribute remixes for 'Love From The Sun' and 'Amina' as well as four staggering productions on Jordan's monumental 'See in the Dark' album. As much of a meeting of the musical minds as this project is, the album undertakes a deeply spiritual exploration on what it is to be human. With songs delving into fear, grief, remorse and love, 'Human' boldly places those character traits under the proverbial microscope and faces them with a sincere and honest openness. With great pride, we welcome Deborah and Kieron to discuss the album at length as well as their long-standing history of collaborations and their respective approaches to making music. www.blueingreenradio.com TuneIn: bit.ly/2LBK0BD The Blue-in-Green:PODCAST runs in conjunction with the online radio station, Blue-in-Green:RADIO which celebrates 21st century soul, jazz, funk, Latin & hip-hop music.
