Es melden sich zu Wort: Ty Segall, Desert Sessions, Jack White, Red Fang, Voice of the Seven Thunders, Zu, Melvins, All Them Witches, The Midnight Ghost Train und Woven Hand. * Eine Sendung vom 17. Adding to its growth is the organic blossoms generated via the rock block, cultivating names like Paramore, All Them Witches, Bully, Moon Taxi, The Wild Feathers, The Band Camino, and the guitar extraordinaires that make up Diarrhea Planet. We got caught up with the semi-retired fearsome foursome for their first headlining performance at the Ryman Auditorium ahead of their return to Bonnaroo. Well, shit, here we are, just a week or two after the actual anniversary of launching the Diary of Doom podcast, and we've got ourselves to chapter 150! It's been three years since then. I'm sitting here, thinking: Why on Earth did you think launching a podcast right before Thanksgiving was a good idea? Brilliant move there. But, self-deprecation aside, the fact that I am at 150 of anything is still pretty cool. For that, I have to thank everybody who has tuned in for the ride so far as well as all of the guests who were willing to be hectored with poorly articulated questions for an hour and anybody who helped contribute to fleshing out the podcast. To help celebrate, we've got Sean McVay from heavy psych masters King Buffalo joining us. King Buffalo has been nothing short of busy for the last few years, making the absolute best use of time by releasing a trio of records and juggling tours along with buckets of new songs to break out on the road. Sean guides us from the days of being just a humble Clutch fan to actually joining the Elephant Riders themselves on tour, along with how the Mortal Kombat soundtrack broke him in, when he found the distortion button, turning a keyboard spot into a guitar spot, clearing out old record stock with All Them Witches, possibly playing in Batman's cave and definitely playing Burning Man, stan for Third Eye Blind, and the similarities of fishing and music.  Support King Buffalo Track featured is "Mammoth" off their latest release, Regenerator. Thanks to Mona Miluski over at All Noir and J.J. Koczan from The Obelisk for helping to set this up. No new chapter next week since it is Turkey Day weekend. We'll be back at the start of December!

We kick the episode off by discussing the importance of separating art from artists and learning to respect art in all forms. Great art is frequently created by less than ideal people and learning to separate the two is crucial. For the main topic we round off the three week Satanic Panic series we've been discussing by talking about the major catalyst for its popularity: The McMartin Preschool Trial. From believing every word that children said, to storming a daycare and burning it down, everyone from parents to police had a role in furthering the extent of the panic. The most expensive trial in history at its time, it all began with one extremely mentally ill woman. What makes it even crazier was that an almost identical case with the same name occurred in Canada. (worth checking it) Understanding these things is useful when looking at our government and the way that these types of conspiracy theory play out today in real time. Bitter or sweet, creamy or sour, heavy or light? Whether it's beer or music, every genre or category can be respected for what is even if you aren't necessarily a fan. True objectivity should allow you to dictate the specific parts about something that draw you to it. Even if you decide to hate it, you should at least understand both the reasons that you dislike it as well as why others are attracted to it. W muzycznym podsumowaniu marca mówimy o Ukrainie oraz o inspirującym Andriy`u Khlyvnyuk`u, śpiewającym z ulic Kijowa. Zespoły Kraków Street Band, Blue Rumble i All Them Witches wydały znakomite nagrania, a wieść, że Rod Stewart reperuje drogi asfaltowe ubawiła nas w sposób szczególny :) EDIT: Kilka sprostowań bo są konieczne!Płytę Toma Waitsa “Like It`s 1999” nagrano w The Orpheum Theatre w Vancouver w Kanadzie. Był natomiast permanentnym członkiem Screaming Trees i Queens of The Stone Age.PS. Smutna wiadomość o śmierci perkusisty Foo Fighters, Taylora Hawkinsa, przyszła już po nagraniu tego odcinka Pick Please! Charyzmatyczny muzyk zmarł w Bogocie, 25 marca 2022. Haling from Nashville Tennesse, All Them Witches could lay claim to being one of the hardest working, most criminally underrated and all round fucking amazing bands to have come out this side of the Y2K. Since forming in 2012, the band has released a staggering six LP's, three live albums, a small arsenal of EP's and the occasional single thrown in for good measure. Touring relentlessly has seen them support acts such as Primus, Ghost and Mastodon, play at some of the biggest festivals in the world, and if you're hearing about them for the first time just now, then god damn you are in for a treat! Pigeonholing ATW into a genre isn't the easiest to do. With traces of psychedelia, folk, stoner, southern and heavy rock emanating from their music, comparisons to acts such as Sabbath, Kyuss and Tool are inevitable. Ask the band themselves and they'll quote bands such as The Doors, Neil Young and Led Zeppelin. Wherever the hell the influences come from, it doesn't really matter. What does matter is that they all combine to create a truly unique sound that's impossible to ignore and from all reports, creates one hell of a live show. Having just completed their most recent leg of an American tour, Heavy Mag managed to catch up with front man and bass player Charles Michael Parks Jr in his home town in Arkansas. Check out the full interview to hear Parks talk about a range of subjects such as welcoming their original keys player Allan Van Cleave back into the band in 2021. “Allan is our brother first and foremost and he's always been. Now we're all back together, its like it hasn't changed, the dynamics are almost exactly the same. We missed this sound. The sound that he puts out is special, the way he and Ben act together is unique, we all missed it.” Discussing the recording of their last album Nothing As The Ideal in the U.K, which was completed right before Covid went and fucked everything up for everyone, “We were at Abbey Road and were wrapping it up and we were like, we gotta get the fuck out of the UK, so we did and days later they shut everything down. We nearly got stuck there for 8 months! We chat about their blistering live stream performance “Live On The Internet”, of which the audio recording was unsuspectingly dropped onto all platforms on March 18th, “ The only thing weird was that you couldn't see anybody. You knew they were there, you knew they were listening. The actual energy exchange wasn't there but that was fine. For the most part it was gratifying to at least put something out with everybody locked down” And of course we put the hard word on Parks, trying to coerce them to our shores with the allure of warm weather and nice beaches, “I want go to Australia & Asia, I'm ready to go to and see some spiders and koalas. I live in the middle of Arkansas, there are all kinds of crazy creatures, crazy people, ya never know how the conversation is going to go from one minute to the next” Their music can be found online for purchase on bandcamp.com or streamed through all major platforms. Check out the full interview now.

Villa Mure is a husband/wife alt/psych songwriting team from Louisville, KY. Rooted as much in 70's progressive rock as 90's alternative and cultivated by the eclectic "Louisville Indie" music scene, Villa Mure's music is anchored on the chemistry of textural, flowing guitar work and driving, melodic bass. The group creates an atmosphere that recalls the psychedelic, but presents itself in the simplicity of the tried and true rock n' roll power trio, with grooving instrumentals intertwined with lyrics intended to speak to one's inner voice. Villa Mure has shared the stage with regional and national acts such as Christone Kingfish Ingram, and Black Mountain, and have shared festival lineups with All Them Witches, Blackfoot Gypsies, and Cedric Burnside Project. Villa Mure performs across the region at venues of all sizes, from basements and living rooms, to large concert halls and amphitheaters. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tophillrecording/support

Expanding, evolving, exploring, and enchanting are all applicable when describing the orbit of All Them Witches. Since their https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/rig-rundown-all-them-witches (2016 Rig Rundown), the quartet have continued pursuing their sonic mission, unbound by anything but regeneration. Their never-ending musical mutation has yielded three more individualistic, intrepid releases since our last check-in. Sleeping Through the War, in 2017, explored more purposeful, mystical songcraft cloaked in hypnotic, rambunctious rock. For 2018's ATW, the band's IV-like retreat (substitute Headley Grange for a Tennessee cabin) extracted a doomier, more chaotic side A equally matched by a side B that's a psychedelic painkiller. And 2020's Nothing as the Ideal shows the temporary power trio (drummer Robby Staebler completes the line-up) striking a levitating balance within a menacing, mortar of metal that binds and anchors their emotive, effervescent excursions. (Drop the needle on closer “Rats in Ruin” and let it wash over you.) Just before their sold-out show at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium (on Halloween, no less), Witches guitarist Ben McLeod and bassist/vocalist Charles Michael Parks Jr. welcomed PG's Chris Kies onstage to re-chronicle their setups. The resulting conversation covers their modified war horses, deciphers their esoteric stacks, and reveals the secrets of the “doom broom.” Plus, we get hip to new builder https://www.daleamps.com/ (Elad Shapiro of Dale Amps). EGXBH's powerful new single "EIGHT46" is out now. The Chicago band's latest track pulls you through a storm of emotion and the overwhelming disgust of how we as humans treat each other. The lyrics speak to all, no matter the color of your skin, sexual orientation-- who you choose to love or be-- and helps give voice to the belief that we should all just be kind and love one another. The band has released the song as a double single, short version for radio play with a 5:29 runtime, and an extended version with a music video that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotion and tension for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, which was the exact time George Floyd was held down for before his life was abruptly taken. The dusty desert-damaged rock of All Them Witches made its debut in the KEXP studios earlier this year, and it only underscores how the wait was too long. The long-evolving Nashville outfit's latest album. Sleeping Through The War, is a fiery, gritty LP that's highlighted in this session with Cheryl Waters, where the band discuss the roots of the project, the benefits of all the band's members not living in the same town, and playing a Rhodes strictly because they'd already paid for it. Recorded 5/5/2017 - 5 songs: Am I Going Up?, 3-5-7, Alabaster, Talisman, The Death Of Coyote WomanSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
