El creyente guiado por el Espíritu Santo piensa en los demás y procura servirlos. El legalista no se interesa en llevar a cabo las cargas; al contrario, aumenta las cargas de otros. Los fariseos hacían eso; el legalista siempre es más duro con los demás que consigo mismo. Quien es guiado por el Espíritu Santo demanda más de sí mismo que de los demás. Pablo lo ilustra con un caso hipotético, de un creyente sorprendido por el pecado. El legalista busca condenar y esconder sus pecados detrás del caído. El espiritual reconoce sus pecados y busca restaurar, como quien remienda una red de pesca para que continúe siendo útil o restaura un hueso roto. El legalista se alegra cuando el hermano cae, y lo exhibe. El espiritual se duele, no compite con el que erró y no busca quedar bien haciendo quedar mal al hermano. Quien es dirigido por Dios tiene espíritu de mansedumbre, amor y humildad, porque reconoce su propia debilidad; mientras que el legalista tiene una actitud de orgullo y condenación, pues él está "exento" de pecar. El legalista no tiene la disposición de ganar al hermano caído. El espiritual busca salvar porque el amor de Cristo está en su corazón. Wiersbe cuenta que el Sr. William Booth, fundador del Ejército de Salvación, no pudo asistir a una convención y envió a los hermanos un mensaje en una sola palabra: "¡Otros!" En una popular tira cómica, Lucy pregunta a Carlitos: "¿Para qué estamos?" Él le contesta: “Para hacer felices a otros”. Luego, ella piensa y pregunta: "Entonces, ¿para qué están los otros?" Pablo nos desafía, en nombre del Señor, a sobrellevar las cargas los unos de los otros. Unos hacen la obra del acusador; otros, la obra del Consolador. ¿Cuál hacemos nosotros?
