Drum roll, please! After 14+ months of pandemic restrictions, today I was once again able to feature a LIVE IN-STUDIO guest for conversation and performance on All-Wheel Drive. What a thrill! And better yet, it was none other than one of my very favorite Minnesota musicians* (and all-around fabulous humans), Courtney Yasmineh! We chatted a bit (okay, a lot, because she is so interesting & fun to talk to) and also heard THREE BRAND NEW SONGS (making their radio premiere on AWD, y'all!) from her forthcoming new album, “Red Roses and Cowgirl Dreams,” being released later this summer. Courtney shared the inspiration behind the new album and her seemingly endless pool of creativity (*she's also a talented and accomplished author — and has a keen sense for interior design) — and we also talked about her participation in next week's Bob Dylan Birthday Bash at First Avenue, part of a stellar line-up of MN musicians paying homage to the legendary musical bard on his 80th trek around the sun. Courtney performed acoustic versions of three new original tunes: Red Roses and Cowgirl Dreams Right Here By Your Side The Creek And, we closed out the segment with her version of The Times They Are A-Changin', off Courtney's beautiful 2019 album release, “Songs From The Open Road.” Written & released by Dylan in 1964, the song's relevance feels even more significant today. Courtney Yasmineh is a singer/songwriter from Chicago/NYC/Minneapolis. She is currently promoting her upcoming seventh album and the publishing of her first novel based on Courtney's own mythic backstory of the runaway teen who went to live alone in northern Minnesota, the birthplace of Bob Dylan, and in discovering his music she discovered her own. Courtney is on a six week tour in Europe and the UK accompanied by her longtime producer/drummer Rob Genadek. The duo will play songs from Courtney's extensive back catalog (much of which is on Youtube in a great collection of music videos) and also preview songs from the upcoming new release. Reinis Young is a travelling guitar player from Riga, Latvia who has played all around Europe and elsewhere for years sharing his exceptional guitar skills and original songs using different kinds of guitar playing techniques - including tapping, percussive, and finger-picking. Reinis started to compose in times when he was busking and hitchhiking around Europe and Asia. Later on he has started to play more official concerts and since then have been touring all around Europe and New Zealand. He states: ''Music and traveling is my passion. I feel extremely happy to express my emotions throw music to any audience - it doesn't matter if it's a full concert hall or few people in a cafe.'' Songwriters Guild Live is a weekly radioshow in Amsterdam, focussed on singers who write songs. This week your host was Ro Halfhide.
