We got a very disturbing rundown from Sam Ekstrom on how big the Vikings injury report might be, plus founding member of R.E.M. Have you ever visited a construction site, or maybe lived near one?A construction site is a unique kind of mess. Dirt and mud mingle with piles of wood, shingles, and other building materials. Utility flags poke up from the ground like man-made weeds. Trampled grass and dirty sidewalks give further evidence of the work at hand.Eventually, what began as an empty field will grow into something more: a business, a medical facility, or a home.Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”Sometimes, in the midst of building our lives, we look around and see only chaos: Our relationships aren't as blissful as we hoped. Our career isn't following the upward path we planned. Our health or finances or life circumstances are a mess, and we wonder why our best-laid plans didn't result in the stable, structured life we wanted.God does some of His very best work in the midst of our biggest messes, if we invite Him in, and step back to let Him work in our lives.Let's pray.Lord, what we see as unworthy, undesirable, and impossible—you see as beautiful, lovable, and filled with potential. We invite you to be the master architect for our lives, and to bring a sense of order to our days and our circumstances. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Today on Bridging the Gap, pastor Lloyd Pulley challenges us to get past the fear of sharing the gospel and realize what's at stake.... people's eternal destiny! In the sixth chapter of Mark we find Jesus preparing His disciples for the ministry. Lloyd has identified several principles from this passage that we can apply to our service to God.
Pastor Lloyd Pulley enters Mark chapter six today. Let's find our place there now as we return to our study of Mark's Gospel, and a message titled “Hope For the Trampled Heart”. We'll see that everyone is challenged to be prepared in and out of season to preach the Word as well as to give an answer to everyone who asks us for the hope we have.

Everything seems right - God has planted a vineyard and tended it, but then bad, stinky fruit emerges. What has happened? How can we make things right? Chad gives another encouraging lesson and meditation on this passage, helping us to trust fully in the work of God. Even if we are plowed up and torn apart for a season, perhaps He is accomplishing the good that He wants for us, the good we cannot do for ourselves. Bryan Duncan and guitarist Kid Ramos team up on this song that speaks of God cultivating beauty from the wasteland. Dave Simonett, lead singer and songwriter of the bluegrass-adjacent Trampled by Turtles, is a talented musician AND a great outdoorsman. From the small town of Mankato, Minnesota, to the vibrant music scenes of Duluth and Minneapolis, Simonett shares his upbringing in a musically-inclined, nature-loving family, shaped by the sounds of church hymns and classic rock. In our Basic Folk conversation, he opens up about his dual passions for music and the great outdoors, recounting his experiences with pheasant hunting and conservation efforts in Minnesota. He reflects on the parallels between the camaraderie found in hunting and playing music, emphasizing the importance of trying new things and embracing the unknown. We also delve into the evolution of Trampled by Turtles' unique sound – described as a "butterfly's heartbeat" – and the band's journey from traditional bluegrass to their own distinct style.Elsewhere in the episode, Simonett talks about the challenges and rewards of maintaining artistic integrity in the music industry while balancing creative growth with commercial pressures. He shares insights on his band's latest project, Always Here, Always Now, a dual EP featuring recordings by both Trampled by Turtles (Always Here) and his solo project, Dead Man Winter (Always Now). He wrote five songs and instead of picking a band to record the tracks, he handed them over to both bands to do what they will to the music. The results are very cool to listen to side by side. The episode wraps up with a fun lightning round, where Dave reveals his dream supergroup and favorite hunter orange accessory (gotta be safe out there!).Follow Basic Folk on social media: https://basicfolk.bio.link/ Sign up for Basic Folk's newsletter: https://bit.ly/basicfolknews Help produce Basic Folk by contributing: https://basicfolk.com/donate/ Interested in sponsoring us? In Revelation 11:1-2 Ezekiel is told to measure the temple. The inner parts of the temple represent where God has communion with his people. This represents the blessings of the people of God in the presence of God during the time between the first and second coming of Christ. During this same time, however, the outer courts are given over to the Gentiles to be trampled. We are told, therefore, that the church is both blessed in the presence of God, but that there will always be suffering and persecution in this life.

Reid joins Doug Duren of Meateater fame and Dave Simonett, frontman of Trampled by Turtles, to discuss hunting, touring, and the creative process of writing prose and music. Dave and Doug both hail from the upper midwest, and reflect on the mystery behind all that goes into bird hunting over dogs. Moreover, they dig deep into how creative acts of storytelling inform music and writing, and perhaps how those days afield both fuel the process and provide a welcome break.
