Here are some songs from your life, "Backstreet Girl" by the Rolling Stones, "Joey" by Bob Dylan, "Road to Nowhere" by the Talking Heads, "Boy In The Bubble" by Paul Simon, "July Fourth, Asbury Park", better known as "Sandy" by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys. They all rely heavily on the accordion. "Wouldn't It Be Nice" is the biggest shock. Even if you know that song, it might never have occurred to you that Brian Wilson uses I'm pretty sure two accordions to make the primary propulsive musical fabric of that song. The last two decades of indie music ought to have normalized the accordion - Tom Waits, REM, Arcade Fire, The Decemberists... I could go on. It has also endured years of ridicule here in the United States, even while it remained beloved and esteemed in Argentina, Paris, and almost everywhere else in the world. Now, it's enjoying a renaissance here in the States. This hour, we celebrate that with accordion rock stars of all styles. You'll meet a man who is reclaiming the accordion, outfitting his latest version with MIDI controls, so it can mimic voice and other instruments, a woman who specializes in klezmer, and a man who plays his accordion in a trio alongside a guitar and tuba. You also meet other accordion rock stars, including James Fearnley from The Pogues. Just try to tell him that the squeezebox isn’t cool. GUESTS: Cory Pesaturo: Multiple award-winning accordion player from Rhode Island Christina Crowder: Accordion player who specializes in klezmer and other Eastern European styles, and is a member of the Accordion/Violin/Viola trio, Bivolita Will Holshouser: Accordion player and founder of the accordion/guitar/tuba trio, Musette Explosion James Fearnley: Accordion player for The Pogues and the author of the memoir, Here Comes Everybody, The Story of The Pogues. He’s also a composer, and a founding member of The Low And Sweet Orchestra Join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter. "Sprinter" The Florida-born Cat Ridgeway is speeding into national prominence. Or, to be more specific, she's sprinting there. Ridgeway's new album Sprinter is an adrenalized blast of hook-filled rock and roll, howling blues and scruffy pop that's one of the most refreshing listens of the year. A commanding presence with charisma to burn, Ridgeway, along with her band the Tourists, are full of a howling punk-rock electricity that summons everyone from the White Stripes to the Foo Fighters. Now Ridgeway is a self-taught musician who plays harmonica, trumpet, trombone, mandolin, bass, piano and guitar and that's incredibly impressive, but having spoken to her, she has an autodidact streak that runs through her life. Hence the reference I made to coffee earlier, but I'll let Cat tell you all about that. Named Orlando's Best Singer-Songwriter for the last three years, Ridgeway has played with Houndmouth, Arcade Fire and Lucy Dacus and she's no stranger to playing music festivals around the country. She's a typhoon of positive energy and you're going to love her. www.catridgewaymusic.com (http://www.catridgewaymusic.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers Bluesky + IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

Andy talks about new music he's been digging, approves of the musical guests on John Mulaney's Netflix show, plays an atypical song from a well known act, gets comments every time he wears a King Crimson shirt, and can't believe how many times Arcade Fire has played SNL compared to other bands. “Pink Elephant” is their seventh album and a fascinating examination of the problems they are going through that have so obviously not been resolved.
We all remember that one friend's mom who was there for us - wish her a Happy Mother's Day too! Justin Bieber skipped out on the Met Gala because he's in Iceland recording a new album. Tons of new music out today including Blake Shelton, Arcade Fire, Counting Crows, and Maren Morris. Matty keeps falling over at the live show, Walton Goggins is on SNL this weekend, Uma Thurman joins the cast of The Old Guard 2, and Owen Wilson has a new show coming to Apple TV+. Plus, Cache Creek is hosting an open casting call for Survivor this summer, and a live show means our listeners get to join in on a game!
Steven and Ian open today with a quick TV-cast on the latest episode of The Rehearsal, which is some of the finest Evanescence-related content you will ever see. (0:13) (They also pivot briefly to a Movie-cast about Sinners.) (10:20) From there, they update the Fantasy Album Draft to talk about the great new album by Billy Woods, Golliwog, which is wowing critics. (14:00) They also briefly touch on the new Arcade Fire record, which Ian has not heard yet so the longer conversation is tabled for next week. (18:56) Then they pivot to a talk about two inside-baseball music criticism topics — a recent IG post by the band Tennis railing against the treatment of their records from critics, (26:31) and Steven's interview this week with top YouTube music critic Anthony Fantano. (40:13)In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about aughts-era band The Ponys upon the passing of drummer Nathan Jerde, and Steven stumps for the Portland band Alien Boy.

Escuchar audio

From country twang to electronic trance, our latest mix takes listeners on a journey through an extraordinary range of musical landscapes. Matt and Sam discover unexpected connections between artists spanning five decades, share their surprised reactions to genre departures, and explain why this collection might be their favorite in years. The hosts dive deep into Eric Church's reflective "Hands of Time," exploring how music keeps us youthful despite life's inevitable forward march. They unpack Wet Leg's relatable lyrics about unwanted advances in "Catch These Fists" and The Kooks' poignant reminder to live fully because "you never know when it's going to stop." The conversation takes a more vulnerable turn with Haim's powerful exploration of panic attacks in "Everybody's Trying to Figure Me Out."A surprising highlight emerges in Finneas and Kacey Musgraves' acoustic duet, where Finneas (of Billie Eilish production fame) showcases his remarkable vocal talents. The hosts marvel at Orbital's collaboration with actress Tilda Swinton on a six-minute meditation that functions simultaneously as relaxation aid and dance track. The musical exploration continues with The Black Keys' soul-influenced sound, Little Feat proving their 50+ year longevity, Arcade Fire's signature building compositions, and Charlotte DeWitte's pure electronic experience. https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/sam-april-2025-new-music/pl.u-MBM3INqbr81. Steven and Ian begin this week's episode with some exciting news: Ian is writing a book (0:00)! Incredibly, it's an in-depth look at Childish Gambino's Camp. (Actually, it's about emo in the '90s.) Steven also presses Ian for his opinion on the new Black Country, New Road album, which he didn't bring up last week (4:30). From there, they do an extended lightning round on new singles from newly announced albums by Arcade Fire, Turnstile, Stereolab, and Pulp (15:17). Then they review the latest record by Bon Iver, which Steven likes more than Ian (45:53).In Recommendation Corner, Ian discusses the latest from screamo band Record Setter while Steven stumps for the podcast The History Of Rock Music In 500 Songs (56:51).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Zanger (van de Compact Disk Dummies) en radiostem Lennert Coorevits vertelt waarom het nummer 'The suburbs' van Arcade Fire hem overhaalden om toch vader te worden, wat hij zo inspirerend vindt aan de documentaire "Squaring the circle" van Anton Corbijn, en hoe het absurdisme uit het boek "The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy" van Douglas Adams hem helpt het leven te relativeren. Today on an all-new episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to returning guest Cam Clarke, a well-known voice actor and member of The King Family. While this is part one of two episodes, we begin our discussion around Cam's new book Now They're All Here: the King Family. Much more than a coffee table book, this project took years to put together with input from many King family members and comes in at a hefty 300+ pages on this history of America's First Family of Song. In fact, it comes out today, February 25th so buy one from your local independent bookseller after this episode. Like in our last conversation with Cam, we delve into the 30+ member King Family's origins, their television series & specials in the 1960s, the familial bonds of working together with your family as well as Can's place within the dynamic. We also discussed how and why the book came about, why it was Cam who put the book together and somehow that involves another book about a very famous costume designer who happens to appears often on QVC. If you listen, you'll hear that story too. We also discuss Cam's career as an in demand voice-over actor, the weird connections he has to about 80 former guests of this podcast as well as the small, but not-so-insignificant details of being the child of a celebrity. What songs did his mother sing to him as a child at bedtime? Doesn't it just give you all the feels? We hope you enjoy this new podcast episode with Cam because we are again speaking with a child of a celebrity, interviewed by the child of a celebrity. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast and everyone has a story. Take a listen.

This episode dives into the controversial 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees, including Mariah Carey and OutKast—are they really rock stars? The hosts debate whether the Hall's focus has strayed from its original intent. Plus, a preview of the SNL 50th Anniversary concert with Arcade Fire, Backstreet Boys, and Eddie Vedder, and a discussion on Disney's shift in diversity strategies, as well as rising ticket prices at Disney Parks. On top of that, a massive power outage at Disney World's Magic Kingdom leaves guests stranded. We also touch on the latest news with the egg shortage and when it might finally end. #RockHall2025 #MariahCarey #OutKast #SNL50th #DisneyWorld #EggShortage #StereotypesInFilm #FastPass #DisneyParkPrices #PopCulture

Richard Reed Parry is perhaps best known as the really tall, really redheaded guy playing half a dozen instruments in the Grammy-winning band Arcade Fire. But he's also a founder of the instrumental group Bell Orchestre, and a composer of contemporary classical music. In 2018, he visited the studio with a new project called Quiet River of Dust, and it was at least partly inspired by the psychedelic folk/rock scene in Britain in the late 1960's. He and Quiet River of Dust perform some of the musical meditations, in-studio. (From the Archives.) Set list: 1. Finally Home 2. Song of Wood 3. I Was in the World (Was the World In Me?)
Description: In this thought-provoking conversation, Jen and Amy speak with “poet laureate of the ordinary” Kelly Corrrigan about the valuable lessons from life she's reflecting on in this season: the significance of saying hard things, the power of listening and understanding in relationships, observations from parenting and from a career as a writer, podcaster and storyteller, and the importance of participating in democracy, regardless of who is in power. In this episode, which was recorded on Election Day 2024 (prior to knowing the outcome) Kelly uses her trademark wit and steadfast wisdom to offer listeners evergreen words of encouragement for our political landscape and for our lives in whole. Segments: Bless & Release: Lies we tell ourselves GenXcellence: MTV music videos *** Thought-provoking Quotes: “We have created this way of interpreting someone changing their mind as a flip-flopper and we have left no room for someone to grow.” – Kelly Corrigan “Making is good for individual well-being. Having an inventor's or innovator's mindset is just good for society.” – Kelly Corrigan “Once you say something out loud, it just gets smaller. It packs less of a punch. It's the stuff that we're holding and never saying to anyone that's going to be the death of us.” – Kelly Corrigan Resources Mentioned in This Episode: The Strumbellas - https://thestrumbellas.ca/ Arcade Fire - https://www.arcadefire.com/ Mt.
