Without warning he was gone, but not before achieving infamy in the annals of true crime history. Just who was the Zodiac Killer?Criminology podcast takes the deepest dives into the most mysterious true crime cases using actual case files, documents, and police reports to help tell the full and accurate story of the crimes they cover. Now for the first time, Criminology Podcast and WildBlue Press brings the series to readers in book form with added commentary, photographs, and documents. Mike Morford and his partner Mike Ferguson have their own very popular true crime podcast and two great books from Wild Blue Press — The Case of the Zodiac Killer, and The Case of the Golden State Killer. Mike Morford joins Burl, Howard and Mark for an entertaining hour where we let Mark actually ask questions! In Northern California, he was known as the East Area Rapist. In Southern California, he was called the Original Night Stalker. When his crimes all over California were finally connected, he would become known as the Golden State Killer, and by 1986, he had racked up a staggering tally of over 100 home break-ins or burglaries, 50 or more rapes, and at least 12 murders. Don’t invite him over. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/burl-barer/support

Today we’re discussing the unjustifiable death of devoted husband and father, Keith Gentry, and we will examine how his wife, Darlene found herself at the center of the investigation. Mandy goes on a weird rant about organ donation and offers up wisdom on where not to hide evidence. Melissa struggles with “manmade” vs. “naturally occurring” and introduces us to a key player who may just be the male version of herself. In this episode, we pick up the investigation of the Lake Berryessa attack that we covered in episode 2. There are some very good clues found at the crime scene. A murder of a cab driver in San Francisco appears to be random, most likely committed during a robbery. But very quickly the Zodiac resumes his communication with the press. He has a need to take credit for his work and to poke fun at the police. Police will see just how close they were to catching this killer. We're joined in the episode by Dr. Katherine Ramsland who weighs in with her thoughts on Zodiac. Expect to hear more from Dr. Ramsland and other experts in their field as this season of Criminology unfolds. The hunt for the Zodiac is just beginning.
