I continue the second and final part of my interview with journalist Billy Jensen. Jensen & Holes: The Murder Squad was one of the top true crime podcasts before it was rocked by a scandal. In this episode, we dive into the scandal but also talk about crime, victims, addiction and recovery, the struggles of journalism and our concerns about men's mental health.Investigative journalist Billy Jensen and investigator Paul Holes, both known for work related to the Golden State Killer case, co-hosted the podcast that topped the charts since 2019. At the 2022 CrimeCon convention for true crime enthusiasts in Las Vegas, Jensen was a headline speaker on a panel on the Long Island Serial Killer case, held a book signing and was surrounded by adoring fans. But within a month, two podcasters released episodes accusing Jensen of sexual misconduct and the next month a blistering Rolling Stone magazine article detailed even more allegations. Jensen lost the podcast and quickly went from being a true crime darling to a pariah. We sit down to discuss the allegations, what he learned about himself and the change in his life, being an addict in recovery, what he is quietly doing in the background to still help victims' families, and the current state of journalism and true crime.Contact me at silverliningshandbookpod@gmail.comCheck out the Silver Linings Handbook website at:https://silverliningshandbook.com/Check out our Patreon to support the show at:https://www.patreon.com/thesilverliningshandbookJoin our Facebook Group at:https://www.facebook.com/groups/1361159947820623Visit the Silver Linings Handbook store to support the podcast at:https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-silver-linings-handbook-podcast-storeVisit The True Crime Times Substack at:https://truecrimemessenger.substack.comThe Silver Linings Handbook podcast is a part of the ART19 network. Teen Couple Allegedly Ambushes and Kills Young Father During ‘Date' Setup, Police Say An Indiana father's date turned into a deadly ambush when two teenagers allegedly conspired to rob and murder him, authorities say. The victim, 25-year-old Jarrell Pryor, was shot and killed after midnight on Jan. 25 while meeting 19-year-old Alexis Hawkins, who investigators claim lured him into the trap. According to an arrest affidavit, Hawkins was allegedly messaging her boyfriend, 18-year-old Brian Winston Jr., on Instagram at the same time she was arranging a date with Pryor. After meeting with Pryor, Hawkins reportedly kept Winston informed, and Winston is accused of fatally shooting Pryor while he sat in his car, leaving the young father dead at the scene. Police determined Pryor and Hawkins were on a date based on Instagram messages between the two. However, officials say that Hawkins sent additional messages on the same platform to coordinate the robbery, which ended in Pryor's murder. A subsequent search of Hawkins' Instagram account revealed she also conducted multiple online searches related to local news and shootings near Keystone shortly after the incident. Investigators say Hawkins sent out messages to several people seeking a ride from a location near the shooting around the time it occurred. When police interviewed her on Feb. 6, she reportedly claimed to have no memory of the night Pryor was killed, emphasizing that no weapon could be linked to her. Officers further questioned Hawkins about a message in which she allegedly mentioned making a “play,” and she reportedly ended the interview and asked for a lawyer. She was arrested in February on charges of murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury; she is due back in court on May 19. Winston, who faces charges including murder, felony murder, and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, appeared in court on April 15 and is also set for a May 19 hearing. Both he and Hawkins remain in the Marion County Jail without bond. Family and friends of Pryor recall him as a dedicated father to his young daughter, Honey, noting that he avoided trouble before his life was cut short on the night of the alleged ambush.    Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? Tony Brueski teams up with psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott to dissect the alleged behavioral patterns that mirror classic narcissistic and borderline personality traits—gaslighting, flying monkeys, and shifting stories included. From Karen's changing public narrative and contradictory interviews to the supporters who've seemingly abandoned their own lives to champion her cause, nothing is off-limits. Scott offers a psychological lens on how traits from Cluster B disorders may explain Karen's erratic statements and emotional responses—without jumping to diagnoses or conclusions. As the conversation digs deeper, the bizarre cult-like fervor of Karen's defenders is put under the microscope: who are these people, and how did a murder case become a full-blown social crusade? The Gilgo Beach serial killings refer to a series of murders that occurred on Long Island, New York, primarily along Ocean Parkway, between 1993 and 2011. The investigation was prompted by the search of Shannan Gilbert who went missing in 2010, and later led to the discovery of the remains of seven women, including the "Gilgo Four" who we now know as Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes. What Caused Karen Read's RAGE Towards John O'Keefe, Psychotherapist Explains What kind of person burns their life down to support someone they've never met—especially someone accused of murder? Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott dig into the psychology behind the super fans of alleged killer Karen Read, questioning what drives ordinary people to lose their grip on reality in the name of "justice." From people flying across countries and going bankrupt just to protest outside courtrooms, to disturbing voicemails and bizarre courtroom behavior, this episode dives headfirst into what might be going on in the minds of Read's supporters—and Read herself. Is it narcissism? Projection? Insecurity? Why does someone accuse their partner of cheating with the same breath they use to try seducing his friends? As Brueski and Scott dissect her emotional tirades, courtroom smirks, and lack of empathy—especially towards the children of the man she's accused of killing—it raises a chilling question: what kind of person identifies with this behavior, and why are they so eager to defend it? Karen Read's Words Will Come Back To Haunt Her In New Trial, Attorney Bob Motta Explains How What happens when your own words might be the thing that buries you in court? As the sequel to Karen Read's trial heats up, Defense Attorney Bob Motta joins Tony Brueski to dive into the mess of interviews, inconsistent statements, and a tsunami of alleged lack-of-empathy moments that could shift the jury's mood from curious to convicted. We're talking about a case where the evidence might not scream “murder,” but the personality on display just might whisper it over cocktails. Karen's public commentary is set to become courtroom content, and while it doesn't prove she allegedly killed John O'Keefe, it definitely doesn't win her any popularity contests. The problem? Her own narrative shapeshifts more than a soap opera plotline. One moment she dropped him off, the next he walked into the house, or maybe he didn't. Karen's version of events bends to fit the vibe of the day, and the court might not be feeling flexible. As her defense team braces for an onslaught of interview clips, the bigger question looms: Will she be forced to testify just to clean up her own mess? Is this really a murder case—or a masterclass in how to self-destruct in public? #KarenRead #JohnOKeefe #TrueCrimePodcast #DefenseDiaries #HiddenKillers #CourtroomDrama #TrialTwist Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? Florida Man Allegedly Kills Woman During Date at Resort, Conceals Body in Water Heater Closet, Authorities Say A Florida man has been charged with murder after allegedly killing a woman during a meeting at a resort hotel in the Florida Keys and attempting to conceal the crime. Dylan Lamb, 33, was arrested in connection with the death of 43-year-old Nadyne Marie Tillman, whose body was discovered in a closet at the Amoray Dive Resort in Key Largo on Monday. According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a missing persons report at the resort and found Tillman's body hidden under a water heater. She had been brutally beaten to death. Lamb, who had been on probation for a previous grand theft conviction, allegedly met Tillman through a sex solicitation website. Investigators learned from Tillman's friend that she had texted about meeting a man at the resort on Saturday morning but was never heard from again after saying “I'm in” when Lamb opened the door. A resort employee confirmed Lamb rented the room through Expedia and provided his mother's phone number. He had checked into the room Friday night but refused to switch rooms when hotel staff attempted to relocate him. Lamb vacated the room on Sunday, leaving behind three large trash bags filled with soiled towels and linens, which were later described as heavily stained with blood, urine, and feces. Unfortunately, hotel staff disposed of the bags without alerting authorities, and the dumpster containing them is now gone. Tillman's family grew concerned after she failed to respond to messages, leading her daughter to trace her car to the resort. Police were alerted, and the body was discovered shortly after. Lamb's parole officer confirmed he had met with him the day before the discovery. Detectives arrested Lamb at his job as a kayak instructor. During questioning, Lamb admitted to paying Tillman $200 for sex but claimed she tried to leave without fulfilling her end of the agreement. Lamb alleged that he blocked the door to stop her, and she began hitting him. He said he only hit her once in the face, causing her to fall, hit her head, and lose consciousness. Lamb then claimed he went to the bathroom to calm down and returned to find her not breathing. He said he panicked, tried to clean up the scene, and hid her body in the water heater closet. Lamb also disposed of Tillman's cellphone and the soiled linens. However, investigators found that Tillman's injuries were inconsistent with Lamb's account, revealing multiple facial injuries, including two black eyes and a busted lip. In addition to murder, Lamb faces charges of kidnapping, destruction of evidence, and procuring a prostitute. He remains in Monroe County Jail without bond as the investigation continues. What does it say about us when red flags look like rally cries? #KarenRead #TrueCrimePodcast #HiddenKillers #TonyBrueski #ShavaunScott #PsychologyOfCrime #TrueCrimeToday Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? What happens when your own words might be the thing that buries you in court? What Surprises Could Be In Store At Karen Read's Re-Trial, Attorney Eric Faddis Gives The Preview What happens when a murder trial starts to look more like a Netflix drama than a courtroom proceeding? Welcome to the Karen Read case—where dogs are suspects, mystery men emerge from the shadows, and legal arguments sound like rejected Law & Order scripts. With former prosecutor Eric Faddis at the table, Tony Brueski dives into the latest twists of the alleged hit-and-run retrial. The judge is letting the defense point fingers at Brian Albert and Brian Higgins again, but only after a dramatic narrowing of who they can actually blame. The infamous third-party theory still lives, even if it's being propped up by little more than a shadowy “guy in the night” and a dog named Chloe with questionable bite marks. Is this a strategic push to confuse the jury just enough to squeeze out another mistrial? Or is the defense throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping something sticks? Colorado Man Impersonated Wife's Ex to Stalk and Murder Her During Divorce Process, Authorities Say A Colorado man is facing trial after allegedly stalking and ultimately murdering his wife during their divorce proceedings, authorities revealed. Daniel Krug, 44, is accused of posing as his wife's ex-boyfriend and sending her threatening texts for months before fatally beating and stabbing her in December 2023. Kristil Krug, 43, was found in the garage of her home on December 14, 2023, with signs of a brutal attack. Prosecutors presented evidence in court, including a digital trail of messages that linked Daniel Krug to the crime. The texts, sent from an account posing as Kristil's ex-boyfriend, caused the victim to fear she was being stalked. Kristil had reported the harassment to authorities in October 2023, stating that the sender knew intimate details of her life, including where she and her husband worked, and had sent creepy photos of her car and her husband. Kristil had been planning to divorce Daniel, accusing him of being “sometimes rough with the kids,” and had confided in her mother about her plans to leave him. The texts escalated to disturbing messages, including one that read, “I'll get rid of him and then we can be together.” Investigators eventually traced the messages to Daniel Krug after linking the IP address to his workplace and discovering that he had purchased a burner phone with a gift card registered to his name. Furthermore, security cameras at the couple's home were tampered with—lenses covered with tape and a Ring camera turned off—leading police to question Daniel's role in the crime. Two days after Kristil's body was discovered, Daniel Krug was arrested on charges of first-degree murder, stalking, and criminal impersonation. Police also ruled out her ex-boyfriend as a suspect after finding him in Utah at the time of the murder. During the investigation, Daniel reportedly called the police to perform a welfare check on Kristil, claiming she hadn't responded to his messages. However, evidence suggested that he had been sending texts from her phone after her death, further implicating him in the crime. In his defense, Daniel's attorney questioned the investigation, claiming flaws in the handling of evidence, including the failure to test Kristil's phone for fingerprints. However, prosecutors argued that Daniel attempted to deflect blame onto the ex-boyfriend, despite his proven alibi. Daniel Krug's trial is expected to continue until April 18. In this gripping episode, Tony Brueski is joined by retired FBI Behavioral Analysis Chief Robin Dreeke to unpack the explosive testimony, recordings, and courtroom strategies that show Lori's inner circle is rapidly unraveling — and turning against her. As the prosecution lays out its case of conspiracy to murder Charles Vallow, it's clear that Lori's bizarre courtroom behavior and cross-examination tactics aren't helping her defense. But it's her brother's past statements and involvement that are painting a far more damaging picture — one that prosecutors say ties Lori directly to the motive, means, and manipulation behind the crime. Dreeke brings his expertise to examine how narcissism, spiritual delusions, and familial loyalty collide in a courtroom charged with emotion and tension. This is a must-listen for anyone following the Lori Vallow Daybell case, true crime legal strategy, or the psychology behind family conspiracies and cult-like belief systems. In this captivating episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, we're breaking down the latest developments in the Bryan Kohberger case, exploring critical pretrial decisions that will shape the murder trial ahead. From Amazon purchase histories and emotional 911 call recordings to testimony from surviving roommates and even peculiar details like bushy eyebrows, the court's recent evidentiary rulings are setting crucial boundaries. Former prosecutor and defense attorney Eric Faddis joins us to dissect exactly how these decisions could influence the outcome and explains why the admissibility of each piece of evidence could be pivotal. Diving deeper, Tony and Eric unpack why the defense is aggressively challenging specific terms and evidence. What's behind the courtroom battle over using words like "murder," "psychopath," and "sociopath"? Eric reveals the strategy behind excluding emotionally charged language and discusses the legal rationale for allowing the jury to hear the chilling 911 call from surviving roommates under the "excited utterance" hearsay exception. We also discuss the significance of touch DNA found on the knife sheath, a pivotal yet controversial piece of evidence the defense desperately seeks to minimize. Finally, we explore Kohberger's shaky alibi—stargazing on a cloudy night—and what it means for his defense. Will Kohberger himself have to testify to establish this alibi, potentially opening a Pandora's box of risk for the defense? Tony and Eric weigh the pros and cons of Kohberger taking the stand and discuss whether the defense's strategies so far have done enough to create reasonable doubt. Don't miss this detailed analysis of how pretrial rulings could determine the trajectory of one of the year's most closely watched death penalty cases. Want to listen to ALL our podcasts AD-FREE? In what may be the most powerful statement yet in the Delphi murders case, retired FBI Behavioral Analysis Chief Robin Dreeke joins Tony Brueski to declare: “Richard Allen is innocent.” With exclusive insight and expert analysis, Dreeke examines the deeply troubling jailhouse “confessions” made by Allen — confessions riddled with confusion, contradictions, and clear signs of psychotic break and mental collapse. This episode pulls no punches. Dreeke dismantles the prosecution's reliance on Allen's recorded calls, exploring how extreme isolation, overmedication, and psychological pressure can lead to false confessions. He explains why Allen's statements — including claims he killed people who never existed — should never be considered credible evidence in any trial. As the public scrambles to understand what's happening behind closed doors in Delphi, Dreeke brings clarity from decades of experience inside the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Program. If you're following the Delphi case, researching Richard Allen, or questioning the criminal justice system's treatment of the mentally ill, this is essential listening. Uncover the truth behind the viral headlines — and find out why one of the FBI's top minds says we may be witnessing a tragic miscarriage of justice in real time. One minute she's unsure if she even hit him, the next she's got vivid recollections involving loud U2 music and emotional play-by-plays. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott joins Tony Brueski to dig into the inconsistencies and psychological clues that may reveal what's really going on in her mind. We're talking memory blackouts, the bizarre Dateline clip, and whether someone can genuinely convince themselves of a false reality. And what's the deal with her relationship with John O'Keefe? Why do empathetic people seem to end up with partners who bulldoze holidays and flip out over innocent conversations? Throw in booze, alleged toxic dynamics, and potential narcissistic traits (we're not diagnosing, just observing), and you've got a tangled mess that keeps getting weirder. Is ANYONE A Reliable Witness In The Karen Read Trial? Defense Attorney Bob Motta Weighs In Did John O'Keefe really die from being hit by a car—or is that just the easiest story to sell? Tony Brueski and Defense Attorney Bob Motta aren't holding back in this deep dive into the latest twists in the Karen Read case. With damning new evidence and a defense strategy that's walking a tightrope over a pit of conflicting statements, the big question is: will Karen Read take the stand to tell her side—or will silence speak louder? The episode dissects the fragile timeline, inconsistent witness accounts, and the defense's risky third-party blame game. Motta unpacks why the science—like the injuries to John O'Keefe and the damage (or lack thereof) to Read's SUV—might be the only reliable witness left. Everyone was drunk. No one remembers. And the truth may have been lost in that blizzard of booze and bad decisions. Could the defense's own narrative open the door to more incriminating testimony? In a dramatic turn during the Lori Vallow Daybell trial, Alex Cox — Lori's own brother — becomes the unintentional star witness from beyond the grave. The search for a missing sex worker in 2010 led to a grizzly discovery: the bodies of several women were unearthed in the dunes along New York's Gilgo Beach. It led investigators to the conclusion that a serial killer was targeting women on Long Island. The high profile case remained cold for years, with books, podcasts, and movies raising awareness - all while investigators were dogged by dissention and corruption. But new technology and a fresh set of eyes spotted a likely suspect, someone identified by witnesses years earlier. “Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer” recounts the long hunt for the culprit and a look at the man police say evaded detection for more than a decade. Filmmaker Liz Garbus, who directed the 2020 motion picture “Lost Girls,” returns to the topic just as Rex Heuermann prepares for trial, accused of the Gilgo Beach murders.  OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS OF "GONE GIRLS" BEGIN IN THE FINAL ELEVEN MINUTES OF THE EPISODE.In Crime of the Week: Kings of hearts For exclusive podcasts and more, sign up at Patreon.Sign up for our newsletter at crimewriterson.com.
