Famous Prison Break explained by Dan Zimmerman

Dan just happened to be employed by an ambulance company that was used in this daring prison break that captivated America in the 1980's.https://wildbluepress.com/chassons-run-daniel-zimmerman-true-crime/Chasson's Run Is a gripping true crime tale that will leave you on the edge of your seat. On September 6, 1982, convicted murderer Leroy James Chasson made a daring break for freedom from the Massachusetts Correctional Institute-Walpole-one of the most infamous, escape-proof prisons in the country. But this wasn't just any prison break. It was a meticulously planned, five-year effort, made possible by an unlikely accomplice-Kathleen MacDonald, Chasson's former pen-pal turned wife.In this riveting account, true crime author Daniel Zimmerman (SHOTS IN THE DARK) brings the shocking escape to life, detailing how Chasson, wounded and bleeding from self-inflicted wounds was first transferred to a hospital for treatment. Then, using a .45 automatic smuggled to him by his wife who was disguised as a nurse, took hospital guards and staff hostage, before fleeing under a hail of gunfire.Dubbed the "Bonnie and Clyde" of Massachusetts, the couple's daring run across the country captivated the nation and they would evade capture for years. Living under assumed identities, they nearly made it-until a tip from America's Most Wanted led to their eventual capture in 1989.In CHASSON'S RUN, Zimmerman creates a true crime masterpiece. A story of passion, crime, and a love that defied the law.Daniel Zimmerman, the author of the action-packed saga Shots in the Dark, has added a highly anticipated second book to his True Crime resume. In Chasson's Run, Zimmerman chronicles the notorious escape of convicted killer Leroy James Chasson from Massachusetts Walpole State Prison. Armed with equal parts ingenuity, guile and a .45 automatic, Chasson took flight from a hospital ER with his accomplice wife at his side, leading authorities on a seven-year pursuit. As a former Emergency Medical Technician, working for the ambulance firm tasked with treating and transporting prison inmates, Zimmerman had direct access to a number of first-hand eyewitness accounts of the escape. When he's not working area ice rinks and sidelines writing sports for local newspapers, Zimmerman enjoys travel and spending time with his two grandchildren. He lives on the North Shore of Boston with his wife of forty years.Filed Under: Chasson's Run, New Releases, True Crime BooksTagged With: America's Most Wanted stories, Bonnie and Clyde true story, convict on the run, crime and passion stories, criminal couples on the run, daring prison break book, dramatic true crime, escape from maximum security prison, famous prison breaks, fugitive manhunt book, high-stakes escapes, law and justice books, nonfiction crime stories, outlaw couple nonfiction, prison escape true story, real life crime thrillers, true crime books, true crime escape stories, true crime love stories"Sorry folks, but I gotta go."Author Daniel Zimmerman

MONKEY MORALEShttps://www.amazon.com/Monkey-Morales-Assassin-Operative-Informant/dp/B0DV4MZSS7Cuban exile turned CIA operative Ricardo “Monkey” Morales justifies his moniker by orchestrating decades of chaos in the world of international espionage. The legend of Cuban exile turned US government operative Ricardo Morales Navarrete has been known in espionage circles for decades. Dubbed “The Monkey” for his disruptive and unpredictable escapades, Morales grabbed headlines for decades as tales of his bombings, arrests, assassination attempts (both those he executed and those he suffered), and testimony constructed a real-life spy adventure unlike anything brought to page or screen. His story delves into diverse aspects of American history, including our nation's conflict with Cuba, our anti-communism military support overseas, JFK's story before and after the Bay of Pigs, and the explosion of the illegal narcotics industry in 1970s Miami. Morales was a contract agent for the CIA and a valuable asset for the FBI; he even shared how he'd met Lee Harvey Oswald at a CIA camp in Florida before JFK's assassination. Morales's counterintelligence skills-for-hire were also a prized utility for Cuban drug kingpins in Miami, many of whom were discarded ex-CIA operatives.Monkey Morales blends James Bond, Rambo, and Scarface—a concoction of danger, politics, and family drama told in its entirety for the first time by authors Sean Oliver and Morales's son, Ricardo Morales, Jr.About the AuthorSean has never carried out a contract bombing, but he is the author of eight books and a 2021 Writer's Competition winner in the script category. He is an actor and voice artist with over a hundred major motion picture and TV credits. He currently teaches in New Jersey where he lives with his wife and two daughters.Rick is the second of Ricardo Morales Navarrete's four children. https://wildbluepress.com/presiding-over-shadows-crime-memoir-michael-randazzo/I am Judge Michael Randazzo, but by all odds, I never should have been. My story begins in a pop-up trailer-no electricity, no running water-born to parents who dropped out of high school and carried the weight of our family's excommunication from the Sicilian Mafia. I came into the world premature, delivered by a veterinarian, clinging to life while doctors warned I'd never catch up.Crime and tragedy run through my bloodline: moonshining, sexual abuse, attempted manslaughter. My father struck deals with the Mexican Cartel and still battles opioid addiction. Every member of my family has been both perpetrator and victim. Yet, somewhere between generational sin and the chance to start over, I clawed my way through law school. Today, I serve as one of Missouri's youngest Presiding Circuit Judges. This memoir is my confession and my exorcism. It's about the curse of inherited character flaws, the desperate hope to shield my children from them, and the heavy truth that even heroes-like my beloved Grandpa Nick-are deeply flawed. Each chapter opens a new door: from Grandpa Nick wrestling a grizzly bear to the darkest corners of family trauma, violence, and betrayal. What does it take to rise above a legacy of darkness? How do you reconcile love for those who did unspeakable things? My life is proof that the past shapes us-but it doesn't have to define us.

Through his expert lens, Cruel and Unusual Punishment: A Memoir of the Psychological Realities of Federal Prison unveils the stark truth of an uncivilized, harsh, and insane system that erodes the very essence of humanity. The author reveals a grim truth: extended exposure to the cruel environment of prison—crafted by government policy and the ruthless prisoner code—strips away humanity, pushing individuals toward savagery. Drawing from his own struggle to preserve his sense of self and the hard-earned wisdom of those who survived years of confinement, he offers a raw, introspective exploration of survival under psychological siege.Countless prison memoirs exist, but many are marred by exaggeration, falsehoods, or a lack of objective clarity. Few offer the raw, unfiltered honesty found in this account. This powerful narrative is a must-read for anyone seeking to understand the harsh realities of prison.

Bayton would rise from humble beginnings to become the captain and owner of five excursion and mail delivery steamboats that plied the Rappahannock River during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Unusually for an African American, he would acquire wealth and the respect of both blacks and whites. Nevertheless, his boats were burned one by one. But with each malicious burning, and with lynching on the rise, he would build again. This book illuminates a time in American history when the surge of progress made by freedmen was sharply curtailed through the enactment of segregation laws and the activities of the Ku Klux Klan. As a result Hansford C. Bayton died poor, but his story is one of dignified courage and determination when faced with overwhelming odds. Truly, he was a man who swam against the tide.---

Bates delves into the twisted life of Benjamin "Tony" Atkins, whose reign of terror in Detroit spanned less than a year in the early 1990s. Known for targeting vulnerable women in Detroit's most dangerous neighborhoods, Atkins attacked at least 13 women along a mile-and-a-half stretch of Woodward Avenue, one of the city's most iconic streets.Known as "the nation's fastest serial killer," Atkins' crimes were brutal and relentless, leaving victims abandoned in the dark corners of the Cass Corridor and Highland Park. Only when the lone survivor of his horrific spree came forward did law enforcement begin to connect the dots and ultimately capture the monster behind the killings.Through meticulous research in this second book in her Murders In The Motor City series, Bates uncovers the complex web of motivation, abuse, and desperation that led Atkins to target sex workers, while also exploring the societal pressures and systemic neglect that shaped his dark path. A poignant look at a killer's psychology, Bates invites readers to understand how a troubled life could give rise to such monstrous behavior."THE CRACK CITY STRANGLER" is well-researched and superbly written. Bates takes the reader behind the scenes and describes Benjamin Atkins's actions in a riveting manner. She paints a vivid picture of the victims that is both factual and heartbreaking." - Scott Fulmer | Host and Producer, A Study in Crime | A True Crime Podcast THE 'BABY DOLL' SERIAL KILLER: The John Eric Armstrong Homicides. He was the boy next door—sweet, friendly, unassuming. Girardot has been called the "Demon dog of true crime" by none other than Black Dahlia author James Ellroy. Praise for his writing has come from authors as varied as Walter Kirn and Michael Fleeman. His books have ranged from "Name Dropper", a chronicle on the bizarre antics of a murdering imposter who called himself Clark Rockefeller to "Betrayal in Blue" a look at cocaine dealing cops in 1980s New York City, which was co-authored by Burl Barer and Ken Eurell, one of the actual cops.In all of his writing, Girardot's ability to interview complicated characters like drug kingpin Adam Diaz, German imposter Christian Gerhartsreiter and serial arsonist John Orr, add a depth to his story telling that is often lacking in police procedurals masking as true crime. In each of his books, Girardot has displayed a unique ability to locate long-hidden public records and distill narratives from complex court records that brings his stories to life. Girardot's career in journalism began as a copyboy with the now-defunct Los Angeles Herald Examiner. As a reporter he covered stories as fascinating as the O.J. Simpson murder trial and as complex as the mistaken gang execution of three trick-or-treaters on Halloween 1993 in the Los Angeles area.

Carla Conti has penned a book destined to be a future true crime classic." —Manhattan Book Review (5-Star)After three years in Europe, former journalist Carla Conti* just wanted to settle her family into the suburbs of Philadelphia. But her high school friend Scott Powell, a lawyer handling a brutal prison stabbing case, needed a favor. Before she knew it, Carla became part of the defense team and mired in the terrifying world of federal prison gangs, penal abuse, and corruption. Then, when she agreed to write a tell-all book on the violent machinations behind the court case — with Scott's client as an inside source — the stakes turned deadly. Two different prison gangs issued “hit orders” against the prisoner she and Scott now considered a friend, and the journalist and defense attorney were imperiled by association.CHAINED BIRDS is a true crime memoir of Carla's 10-year journey to advocate for federal inmate Kevin Sanders and help him re-enter society after prison. But the mission came at a cost as Carla struggled to balance her own, Scott's, and Kevin's safety while writing an exposé on the horrific conditions that led to the shutdown of an experimental prison program in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. This thrilling, frightening book depicts a journey filled with unlikely friendships, invisible victims of prison abuse, failings in our criminal justice system, and redemption through storytelling.
