This week, Paris turns up the Perturbator records, dons some aviators and a trenchcoat, and heads out into the rainy nights of 1980s Milwaukee to help our Patron Fred. Fred wrote to us saying, “...the sheer notion of a murder mystery with Happy Days characters that is apparently officially sanctioned by whoever owns the rights is enough to give me pause. I can't even find any information about why th[is] book was made and I just end up asking myself, “Who is this for?” because while I don't doubt that Happy Days still has a large fan base, I don't think many people would want to read a book about how one of the best characters on the show gets murdered.” We hope you enjoy this episode, Fred! Thank you so much for supporting TBC. Remember that if you, too, would like to have us read and review a book of your choice on the show, you can gain that power by joining our Patreon at the appropriate tier. Today's episode includes our usual barnyard language in addition to infidelity, kidnapping, murder, and one brief moment of drug use. Free Thinking Through the Fourth Turning with Sasha Stone

After my story Who Killed the Oscars was published in Tablet, I received this letter:Indeed, I didn't explain why I voted for Trump in the Tablet piece. It was already too long. No doubt many reading it thought, who cares what she thinks? She voted for Trump. I'm sure there was a time when I would have thought the same thing. I used to be a faithful, loyal Democrat. I used to be a cheerleader for Hollywood. I thought I would do anything for love. But I found out that there was one thing I couldn't do.But know this: it's never been a story about what happened to me. It's always been a story about what happened to the Left.So let's do a Part Two of the Tablet Piece and call it:Who Killed the Democratic Party? The first time I remember voting for the Democrats was back in the 1980s. I wore a Dukakis button as a Women's Only Health Spa receptionist. A customer saw my pin and said, “Why are you voting for Du-Tax-us?” I looked at her, confused. I didn't know why I was voting for him. “Never mind,” she said to me. “You probably never even went to college.”I knew enough back then that we were different from the Republicans. That political divide had lasted since Nixon's days. They were uncool and had all of the power. We were cool but had no power. We were the subversive side, the Blue Velvet to their Top Gun.That customer's words tumbled around in my head long enough to motivate me to go to college and finally graduate from UCLA at 29, the first person in my family to do so. While a student there, I saw Bill Clinton speak. All of that charisma suckered me in, and now I knew why I was a Democrat. It wasn't complicated. I'll have what he's having. After I dropped out of graduate film school to chase some loser dude back to Los Angeles, my life came apart so spectacularly that I escaped to migrate online, where I would work and live for the next 30 years. The internet changed everything. It gave so many of us a voice and a platform. Anyone could have a website online. Anyone could generate news. The question of who would control it was never asked because it was obvious. The Democrats did. We colonized it—the New Frontier in Cyberspace.Obama was as wedded to Silicon Valley as he was to Hollywood. I was in the right place at the right time, a Good Soldier for the Left as a member of a newly mobilized army on Twitter, rallying behind our leader, the nation's first Black president. We were more connected than ever before at a time when more people were alive than ever before. On the “inside,” things always felt so big, so monumental. On the “outside,” life went on as normal among “The Proles.” We were in the early stages of 1984 if Whole Foods catered it.It was an alignment of power not seen since the utopian days of post-war 1950s America when government and culture aligned to snuff out the Communist threat. With an iPhone in my pocket and high-speed internet, I did my duty every day as a Good Liberal fighting the good fight. It wasn't until Obama's re-election bid in 2012 that I understood I was part of a hive mind that could manipulate the media narrative and thus create the reality we wanted. We could stretch the truth—or lie—about, say, Mitt Romney and the “Binders of women,” and it worked. The legacy press would print our headlines. Clickbait would do the rest. Eventually, it trickled down into the homes of ordinary Americans. It wasn't just politics. It went much deeper than that. We were different people now, better people, good people doing things, something the Left never was throughout my entire life as a child of the counterculture 60s and 70s. But to be that good, we need to target people who were that bad. We needed a receptacle for our collective sins. This is a public episode. Tune in for a compelling exploration of family history, mystery, and the lingering impact of past events. The story centers on a violent confrontation in 1889 between mill owner C.T. Wright and law enforcement officials, highlighting the tensions between individual business interests and legal authority. This incident occurred in Otter Creek, Michigan, where the lumber industry thrived. C.T. Wright was a significant player in the local economy as the Otter Creek Lumber Company owner. Wright's refusal to pay taxes on his mill property had led to a legal dispute with the township, creating a backdrop of tension that ultimately culminated in violence. The situation escalated when Deputy Sheriff Neil Marshall and Dr. Frank E. In this episode of Who Killed...?, I look into recent developments in notable cases, including the Amy Mihaljevic investigation, the Delphi trial, and an update on serial killer Bruce Lindahl. I discuss the questionable article from the Advertiser Tribune suggesting a suspect may be in custody for the Mihaljevic case. I am urging caution, because of the lack of corroboration from other news outlets and the generic nature of the suspect sketch. Kathy Halle disappeared on March 29, 1979, while on her way to pick up her sister from the Northgate Shopping Center. After an extensive search, her body was discovered in the Fox River weeks later. The investigation into her murder was initially conducted as a missing person case but eventually turned into a homicide investigation. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the case went cold, and no new evidence emerged for many years. The investigation employed advanced DNA technology, specifically the MVAC (Multi-Vacuum DNA Collection System), designed to extract DNA from older evidence that may be degraded. This technique involves spraying a sterile solution onto evidence and then vacuuming it back up, allowing for a more thorough collection of DNA than traditional swabbing methods. In June 2023, detectives delivered evidence from Halle's case to DNA Labs International in Florida, where testing revealed that the DNA found on her clothing was 9.4 trillion times more likely to have originated from Bruce Lindahl. This conclusive evidence linked him to her murder, providing the closure that had eluded her family for decades. Following a December report from 10TV, new DNA evidence has linked Lori's case to a pair of suspects, Robert Flieger and Charles Webber, both of whom have since passed away. The episode delves into how investigators pieced together this decades-old mystery and the implications for other unresolved cases in central Ohio. Tune in as they explore the intersection of crime, justice, and the impact of advancements in DNA testing on cold cases. With the gentleman over at True Crime Garage doing a deep dive into Israel Keyes, I decided to rerun the episode I did with True Crime XS a few years back. 2020- Many thanks to John from the True Crime XS podcast for joining me this week. This is a story about finding the remains of some of the long-buried victims of a serial killer who committed suicide almost a decade ago. One of the most prolific serial killers of our time, and the authorities have only found one body. Join the hunt for the rest now! Thank you for tuning in to this week's episode of Who Killed...? Israel Keyes was an American serial killer, rapist, arsonist, burglar, and bank robber. Keyes admitted to violent crimes as early as 1996, with the violent sexual assault of a teenage girl in Oregon. He committed a long series of rapes and murders until his capture in 2012. Based upon an investigation conducted following his arrest in March 2012, Israel Keyes is believed to have committed multiple kidnappings and murders across the country between 2001 and March 2012. Keyes lived in Washington from 2001 to March 2007, when he moved to Alaska. While living in Alaska, Keyes worked as a general contractor but traveled extensively.  Anyone with information concerning Keyes is encouraged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. - FBI.gov Learn more about your ad choices. This week, we are crossing over to producer Bill Huffman's podcast, Who Killed...?, and his interview with author Jesse Pollack about his experience with the Long Island Serial Killer Case. Jesse P. Pollack was born and raised in the garden state of New Jersey, and has served as a contributing writer for Weird NJ magazine since 2001. His first book, Death on the Devil's Teeth, coauthored with Mark Moran, was published in 2015 to critical acclaim. Also an accomplished musician, Pollack's soundtrack work has been heard on Driving Jersey, an Emmy-nominated PBS documentary series. He is married with two children, three dogs, and a couple of cats. The first set of remains was discovered in 2010 while police were searching for another woman, 24-year-old Shannan Gilbert. It wouldn't be for another year when Gilbert's body would be found across the way on neighboring Oak Beach. Once Gilbert's body was recovered, the total number of bodies found was 11. Police said most of the women worked in prostitution and advertised on such services as Craigslist. When an independent autopsy was performed on Gilbert's body, they were able to determine she was killed due to homicidal strangulation. The reason for the second autopsy was the first one concluded Gilbert had died from drowning and drug overdose. The autopsy was able to show she did not die from a natural disease, drug overdose, or drowning. Gilbert had vanished after visiting a customer and was told to have freaked out and started banging on neighbor's doors, asking for help and saying people were trying to kill her. Who Killed the Fundamental Right to Property in India? The greatest casualty in the battle between the Parliament and the Supreme Court of India for supremacy over the Constitution was the fundamental right to property. In this episode, Anupam Manur and Shrikrishna Upadhayaya retell the story of right to property beginning from the Indian Independence and ending with the Emergency. They touch upon land reforms, nationalisation of industries, the evolution of basic structure doctrine and eventual degradation of right to property in India. They argue that the right to property is fundamental to enjoying other liberties guaranteed by the Constitution. We highlight the continuous scientific advancements utilized to bring closure to other cold cases, emphasizing that it has never been considered a cold case. Both Harold Bound and William Strunak were individuals who drew suspicion in the Amy Mihaljevic case. While Bound's involvement was linked to his living situation and proximity to the stables where Amy frequented, Strunak's connection stemmed from his volunteer work and alleged inappropriate behavior. Strunek's status as a favorite suspect of FBI profiler Robert Ressler added weight to the investigation's focus on him. This week on Who Killed...?, I dive into the mysterious case of the Robison family, also known as the Good Hart murders, in Northern Michigan. Join me as we explore the idyllic setting of northern Michigan and invite listeners to draw their own conclusions on who may have been responsible for this tragic event. The prime suspect in the Robison family murders, Joe Scolaro, was a former business partner of Richard Robison. Scolaro's suspicious behavior, financial motives, and connections to the crime scene made him a compelling suspect. Despite failing polygraph tests and having incriminating evidence against him, Scolaro was never officially charged. His mysterious suicide added another layer of complexity to the case. "So who would want to murder a family? Was it a crime of opportunity? That was a theory, but again, since this house was so secluded, that almost throws that theory right out the window. How could someone bludgeon a child to death, let alone after they had already killed most everyone else with a gun? So what was the significance of this overkill?" In this bonus episode of Shoot the Messenger, we share a special interview host Rose Reid did with Russian journalist and founder of the media outlet Meduza, Galina Timchenko. Citizen Lab and Access Now confirmed Galina Timchenko had been infected with Pegasus — which is the first documented case of the use of Pegasus against a Russian journalist. Before Galina Timchenko was the editor in chief of Meduza, she ran one of Russia's most popular media outlets, called Lenta.ru. She was fired as Lenta.ru's chief editor in 2014, after Vladimir Putin returned to power, the same year of Russia's annexation of Crimea. Since 2014, Galina and her team have been reporting on Russia in exile.  We'll launch our second season in early 2024 - which investigates “Who Killed the President of Haiti?”  In the meantime, we will bring you monthly bonus episodes - featuring our favorite shows and updates on Pegasus.
