The Chelsea fans have a new hero: “Hello, hello, Jadon Sancho, Jadon Sancho.” In this episode we look back at Chelsea's lucky but satisfying one nil win at Bournemouth on Saturday night where Sanchez stood tall and Sancho shone off the bench. It was far from a vintage display from the Blues, but did we show some of the character that's been lacking from this squad in recent years? We also look at the rising profile of Levi Colwill and ask whether he is Chelsea's future captain. The COVID-19 pandemic is ravaging the globe, leaving immeasurable human suffering in its wake. Who is left behind, struggling to survive on the frontlines of precarity, is – as with all things – determined primarily by wealth, privilege, and access to resources and political capital. This fact has been starkly on display in recent days, as Congressional Democrats began debating their response to the crisis: corporations, wealthy investors and industry were prioritized, formal wage workers were given crumbs, and the undocumented and informal economy workers – such as domestic caregivers; undocumented workers; sex workers; and freelance, contract, and off-the-books workers – were ignored completely. On this week's episode, we analyze a 48-hour time period of coverage in The New York Times and The Washington Post when the discussion of who was going to be prioritized and aided – and who wasn't – cemented in popular discourse with little logic or meaningful debate. We are joined by Fahd Ahmed, Executive Director of Desis Rising Up and Moving (DRUM).
In this episode of Let’s Be Real, we speak with two organizers—Fahd Ahmed from DRUM (Desis Rising Up and Moving), and Sasha Wijeyeratne from CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities—from the Neighbors Beyond Amazon coalition. Reflecting on the landmark victory to keep Amazon’s second headquarters, or HQ2, out of New York, Fahd and Sasha discuss the power of community organizing, what this victory means for the communities and members that work with their organizations, and what’s next for the coalition as they continue to fight for economic development that prioritizes people over corporations.
CJSF’s Allison R. Brown speaks with Deepa Iyer, author of We Too Sing America, and Fahd Ahmed, Executive Director of DRUM: Desis Rising Up & Moving, about the value in building solidarity as we charge toward authentic and long-lasting change.

September 11 Then and Now This week on Apex Express, we reflect back on 9/11. As the nation remembers the victims in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on board the airplanes, Apex explores the aftermath and how OUR communities have been affected. We'll hear a personal documentary by Robynn Takayama on how several Asian Pacific communities responded immediately after 9/11 to address racist scapegoating, hate crimes, and the build up to the War on Terrorism. We also talk with Co-founder of the Sikh Coalition, Amardeep Singh, about the recent Islamaphobia conference and the accompanying website, “Unheard Voices of 9/11.” And finally, we bring you a round table discussion with Valarie Kaur, award-winning filmmaker; Fahd Ahmed, legal and policy director with DRUM, Desis Rising Up & Moving; and Zahra Billoo, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. Plus we have a pair of tickets to Anthony Brown's Asian American Orchestra at Yoshi's SF on September 11 for the 30th anniversary of the first Asian American Jazz Festival.
