Since its construction in 1978, Aughinish has been the largest alumina refinery in Europe and one of the largest employers in the Limerick area. In recent weeks, reporting from The Irish Times and the organised crime and corruption reporting project has shown that alumina refined in Aughinish is being sent to Russia. From there, their investigation shows aluminum once refined in Aughinish has allegedly ended up in arms for the Russia's war in Ukraine.Conor Gallagher is the crime and security correspondent at The Irish Times and has helped reveal the findings of this investigation. A summit in Portugal last weekend laid bare the growth in a pan-European remigration movement, with speakers who ranged from an MEP to Greg Bovino, a former US border patrol official who, before retiring, became the public face of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown in US cities. The term means deporting not just illegal immigrants but all people judged to be unassimilated in western society, including citizens and the children of non-white immigrants. In Ireland, the push for remigration is being led primarily by the National Party and its members Keith O'Brien (who goes by the name Keith Woods) and James Reynolds attended the event which took place behind tall gates and amid tight security. The Irish Times gained access to the summit to see activists and elected representatives from across Europe, many of whom have close links to neo-Nazi groups, being cheered by delegates.Critics say remigration is essentially a sanitised way of describing state-sanctioned ethnic cleansing. So does this represent a new phase in far-right activity in Ireland?Irish Times investigative reporter Conor Gallagher, who has been tracking far-right groups in Ireland, reports.Presented by Bernice Harrison. One point from safety. Eight years since we last won at Stamford Bridge. And Chelsea? Winless in seven, four straight home defeats. Could Tuesday actually be the one? I'm joined on The Originals by Stu in Dubai, Si in Switzerland and Johnny in drizzly Dublin for a Chelsea away preview that, for once in this fixture, doesn't lean on dread. We dig into the maths (one point keeps us up after West Ham's defeat), what De Zerbi said in his press conference — including his flat "no" when asked if a Spurs win would be a "miracle" — and the Italian mentality angle, comparing his approach to Conte's, Frank's and Tudor's. Plus Chelsea's form crisis (winless in seven, two goals in their last seven), the four Brighton lads in the Chelsea XI who came through De Zerbi, and Conor Gallagher returning to his old club — Si has called him for man of the match. Romero, Maddison, Tel and the keeper question all covered too. Listener questions: Linda on whether supporter culture actually changes after this season, the Jonathan / Roston debate on whether we really need a deep-lying playmaker or whether it's a unicorn position, and Danny on whether the directors have learned anything from this season's drama. The Originals is the panel show from Oh So Spurs — higher-quality, more nuanced fan content from people who've actually been through this season. Smarter than the angry-pundit register, but still fans, with the cautious belief that comes with it. If you got something out of the episode, please follow the show, drop us a rating. And to the Oh-So-33 crew — keep it lily-white. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Betting on the results of an election is not unusual but Polymarket is not a typical bookies. It allows punters to take and then change their position on all manner of events, from when the Strait of Hormuz might open to whether Taylor Swift will be pregnant before she gets married. So when Irish Times investigative reporters Conor Gallagher and Rachel Lavin noticed almost €1 million had been wagered on the upcoming Dublin Central byelection on Polymarket, it raised enough red flags for him to delve deeper.Bets on Gerry Hutch accounted for the bulk of the spend by punters. And while the amount of money involved is significant, it was the activity of the Polymarket users once they'd placed the bets that was unusual. And where did all this money come from?Gallagher explains how Polymarket works, why the Dublin Central byelection has proved such a magnet and what experts say the activity around the bets on Hutch point to.Presented by Bernice Harrison. What happened against Spurs on Sunday night? Unai Emery elected to shuffle his pack, and there were seven changes, but the line-up wasn't too dissimilar from the one that beat Fenerbahçe away 1-0 in the Europa League. The back four was the same apart from the left-back; the base of the midfield was the same with Bogarde next to Tieliemans, with Sancho and Rogers further forward, and Barkley and Abraham in instead of Watkins and Buendia (who both did come on), but they have been patchy at best anyway. At least against Spurs, you also had Martinez in goal, as Bizot played in Turkey.Nobody complained about the line-up as they tackled a tough trip to Istanbul. It was the effort and application of the players that let the team down, not the team sheet. The performance was indefensible, regardless of Thursday.Conor Gallagher, who had not scored for Spurs all season, scored. Richarlison, who had never scored against Villa, scored. When Buendia's consolation header arrived in the ninety-fifth minute — it was Villa's first shot on target of the entire game.In this episode the show does not dress it up. The performance was an embarrassment. The team that started was good enough, every player a full international bar one and they put in absolutely nothing. Emery's programme notes talked about laser focus and determination. His body language on the touchline told a different story. The harder question is what it means for Thursday. With Forest a goal up from the first leg. Villa need to score at least twice at Villa Park to win without penallties. The crowd that was asked to put up with ninety minutes of nothing against Spurs is now being asked to roar the team into a European final.Everything on the line on Thursday night at Villa Park and only a win can banish what happened against Spurs before it.Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.Become a MOMS Member for ad-free & extra shows - MOMS MembershipJoin the show's listener Facebook group The Mad Few.Credits:David Michael - @myoldmansaid | Chris Budd - @BUDD_music / Phillip Shaw - @prsgameThis Podcast has been created and uploaded by My Old Man Said. Jack is joined by Baker to celebrate a genuinely massive, potentially season-altering victory as Tottenham Hotspur's win at Villa Park lifts them out of the Premier League relegation zone. Pushing back against the incredibly lazy outside narrative that a heavily rotated Villa side simply 'threw the game', the lads choose instead to focus on the undeniable tactical and mental improvements shown by Spurs. We explore the growing influence of Roberto De Zerbi, dissecting Conor Gallagher's revealing post-match comments about the manager's emotional intelligence and the one-on-one man-management that finally seems to be inspiring a broken dressing room. With the sheer terror of the drop slightly easing, Jack and Baker look ahead to the nerve-wracking final run-in. We compare Tottenham's remaining fixtures against Leeds, Chelsea, and Everton with West Ham's daunting schedule, asking when we can actually let ourselves believe that survival is secured. There's also time for debating whether the all-consuming, exhausting dread of a relegation dogfight has actually provided a strange silver lining by completely numbing us to the pain of Arsenal's pursuit of major trophies. Spurs went to Villa Park and got the job done. Conor Gallagher and Richarlison on the scoresheet, a second straight away win after Wolves, and just like that we're out of the relegation zone with three games to play. Strange times being a Tottenham fan. Stranger still, we're going to be sat watching Arsenal vs West Ham on Sunday afternoon hoping the Gunners do us a favour. With Manchester City drawing 3-3 at Everton last night (Doku rescuing them deep into stoppage time), a win for Arsenal at the London Stadium would almost certainly hand them the title. Try wrapping your head around that one. We'd take it. Three points for them keeps West Ham in serious trouble and pushes us closer to safety. Then it's Leeds at home on Monday night under the lights. They've quietly gone unbeaten in six, smashed Burnley 3-1 at the weekend, and they'll travel down to N17 fancying their chances of mathematically confirming their own Premier League status. We've still got the joint-worst home record in the league. That has to change. Win on Monday and the worst is behind us. Slip up, and we drag this thing all the way to the final day. Jonny, Ollie and Jake break down the Villa win, dig into where De Zerbi is starting to click, talk through the Arsenal vs West Ham scenarios, and preview a Leeds side nobody is taking lightly. Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Jason McGovern, Luke and Marlon as first-half goals from Conor Gallagher and Richarlison coupled with a magnificent team performance saw us record a vital victory at Aston Villa to move out of the drop zone. We discuss the manner of the win, with to a man, the players being outstanding, Gallagher in particular covering every blade of grass after opening his account for us with a precision strike from distance as we won the vast majority of our duels, kept possession well and closed Villa down quickly whenever they had the ball, blocking shots and crosses and making tackles with fight and determination as he picked up the Player Of The Match award. Richarlison's powerful header on 25 minutes gave us a cushion and from there we controlled the game for the most part, Villa only grabbing a consolation in the dying seconds when substitute Emi Buendia headed into the top corner for his third goal in as many games against us this term – their first effort on target. It was a minor blot on our copybook, though, as we made it back-to-back league wins for the first time since the start of the season to move a point above West Ham in the final relegation spot with three games remaining. We discuss the transformation in which Roberto De Zerbi is performing and whether we genuinely believe he will now lead us to a Great Escape preserve our Premier League status. For a man who has been targeted by assassins, Gerry Hutch is surprisingly easy to track down in the village in Lanzarote where he has lived for more than 10 years. He hikes in the morning, frequents the island's many Irish bars – Paddy's Point is a favourite – and is happy to stop for selfies with the Irish holidaymakers attracted by the island's winter sun.Irish Times investigative reporter Conor Gallagher travelled to the Spanish island last week to interview the veteran criminal as part of a wider investigation into the Dubliner's property holdings.Hutch has long maintained that his lifestyle is funded by savvy property investments although in a wide-ranging interview he tells Gallagher they have been “exaggerated”.From his sunny base he talks of his political ambitions for the May 22nd Dublin Central byelection, his reaction to his son's recent arrest in Lanzarote and the ongoing criminal investigation by the Spanish authorities into his own activities.Presented by Bernice Harrison. We're joined on The Lab by Kish from Lilywhite Lab to dig into what has gone wrong at Tottenham this season, and whether Roberto De Zerbi can be the man to fix it. We discuss the importance of player buy-in, why Thomas Frank's approach never fully convinced the squad, and how Spurs' lack of midfield control became the defining tactical problem of the season. There's also a deep dive into the signings of João Palhinha and Conor Gallagher, the imbalance of the squad, the short-lived Igor Tudor experiment, and the wider questions around leadership, recruitment and culture at the club. We also look at De Zerbi's arrival, his reputation for improving players, and why his coaching could be exactly what Tottenham's young squad needs, even if the timing could hardly be more chaotic. Host Ricky Sacks is joined by David Harris, Ian Lubin and TJ Ramini as the third managerial era of the 2025/26 Tottenham Hotspur season is about to commence, as Roberto De Zerbi makes his second Premier League debut on Sunday, away to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. We discuss Roberto De Zerbi's first pre-match press conference in which he boldly states he knows his first mission is to keep Tottenham in the Premier League but believes the club has everything to challenge for the title in the future. We also reflect on a week which has seen Mohammed Kudus could miss the rest of the season in a major blow to new Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi. Kudus has been out since the start of January with a quad injury, but had begun to ease his way back into training before the international break. Kudus had not missed a single game through injury for West Ham but could potentially miss half of his first season at their north London rivals. It was hoped he would be in contention to face Sunderland this weekend in De Zerbi's first game in charge. However, Spurs have confirmed that Kudus could be set to undergo surgery, ruling him out of Spurs' final seven games of the season and casting his World Cup hopes with Ghana into doubt. We debate the icompetence shown by current Sporting Director Johan Lange in which Spurs had the chance to reinforce their squad in the January transfer window, despite the difficulties involved in that market, but only brought through the door a midfielder in Conor Gallagher and 19-year-old left-back Souza, while selling last season's top scorer Brennan Johnson just days before Kudus first suffered his serious quad injury. Unfortunately, of the long-term players out when Lange made those comments ahead of the trip to face Manchester United in early February, Kudus, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur and Ben Davies all remain side-lined two months later and were added to a week after by Wilson Odobert. Therefore once again raising concern over the medical rehabilitation of players. The panel also reflect news that Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to sign Andy Robertson as a free agent this summer, subject to retaining their Premier League status and a price has been set for reported goalkeeper target James Trafford. We finally close on our thoughts of Sunderland, given the fact that The Black Cats are running the risk of losing four straight home league games for the first time since September 2017 in the Championship, and their shoddy Stadium of Light sequence has contributed to their bottom-half ranking in the Premier League table, although they are still within touching distance of seventh-placed Brentford at the time of writing. It is not surprising that the army's spy wing is a highly secretive organisation, but lately it's becoming a little less so, with one of its top bosses giving an interview to The Irish Times. Its job is to protect the State and the Defence Forces from military threats, counter hybrid activity and protect Irish interests overseas. Its expertise is wide, from on-the-ground surveillance to advising the government on strategic threats to our interests. One of its tasks is to monitor the activities of ageing Russian tankers that appear with increased regularity off the west coast. The service is undergoing a transformation: the name change from J2 to the Irish Military Intelligence Service (Imis) is a small part of that.Irish Times investigations reporter Conor Gallagher was invited to the Imis HQ at McKee Barracks to meet one of the top intelligence operatives, to talk spycraft, threats, secrecy and a new phase of recruitment.Presented by Bernice Harrison. A new investigation has shown the supply chain link between Russian missiles – ones used to deadly effect in Ukraine – and a factory in Limerick.Aughinish Alumina was built near the Shannon Estuary in the 1980s to make alumina using raw bauxite from Guinea and Brazil.A major employer in the area, it changed hands in 2006 when it was bought by a company called Rusal which at the time was controlled by Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaskaa. It has become one of the Europe's biggest sources of the vital raw material. Alumina is a key part of the car and aircraft industry. It is also the bedrock of much of the weapons industry. As part of an in-depth investigation, Irish Times crime and security editor Conor Gallagher traced the exports from the Limerick factory and explains why when the EU looked to sanction any industry which might be helpful to the Russian war machine, Aughinish Alumina was given a pass.Presented by Bernice Harrison. Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Billie T, George Achillea, Adam Nathan and Gary Ward in this bumper edition of Last Word On Spurs. We reflect on Igor Tudor remaining in the Spurs job for now and to take charge of tonight's Champions League last-sixteen second leg tie against Atlético Madrid, where we debate the team he can select from, where on the eve it was confirmed that Skipper Cristian Romero, Lucas Bergvall and Destiny Udogie all return from injury, while Micky van de Ven, who played in the first leg in Madrid, is available after missing Sunday's Premier League draw at Liverpool due to suspension. However it's not all positive news on the injury front with Dominic Solanke understood to have a 'small problem' which will be assessed on the eve of the game and Conor Gallagher understood to have contracted a virus. We discuss Micky van de Ven's pre-match interview to the media in which he addressed comments circulating that some first-team players who are determined to arrest Spurs' decline have expressed displeasure at the application of some of their team-mates, who they believe are not motivated to help their cause. One player reportedly expressed to his team-mates he is not too concerned by the possibility of relegation because he believes he can and will leave the club this summer. Billie T also outlines the plans for the fan initiative gathering ahead of Nottingham Forest on Sunday and how supporters can get involved ahead of what's being billed as one of the most important home matches in Tottenham Hotspur's modern history. The Geran-2 is a deadly weapon; a drone bomb that can be launched from thousands of kilometres away and yet hit its target with precision accuracy.Low cost and easy to make, this winter it has become a key weapon in Russia's armoury as it pummels Ukraine, causing hundreds of deaths and cutting off energy supply. And a key component in the Geran-2 design is a chip manufactured years ago by Taoglas, which is headquartered in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. So how did it make its way into Russia's armament supply chain – especially given EU rules which ban the export to Russia of “high priority” dual-use technology that can have both civilian and military applications. An investigation by The Irish Times in partnership with the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project and others has revealed that technology from EU companies is making its way into Russia in vast quantities, where it is used in weapons such as the Geran-2.This includes various components manufactured by Taoglas and another Irish-based company, TE Connectivity.Irish Times crime and security correspondent Conor Gallagher was part of that investigative consortium and he explains how these drones work and why stopping their manufacture has proven difficult.Presented by Bernice Harrison. Facing the dual crises of modern culture and Church confusion, how can Catholic parents build a thriving family? Father of 17 Conor Gallagher provides a surprising answer: order. In this profound conversation, Gallagher draws from business, philosophy, and theology to argue that the same principles that govern successful organizations, vision, unity, systems, and clear authority, are the non-negotiables for a faithful family. He reframes parenting as intentional leadership and marriage as a shared mission, offering practical steps to reduce conflict and increase joy. He urges parents to stop waiting for institutional solutions and start building strong, local "family ecosystems" rooted in faithful parishes, disciplined technology use, and intentional community. This is a hopeful, actionable guide for creating a home that forms children capable of resisting chaos and living with purpose.HELP SUPPORT WORK LIKE THIS: https://give.lifesitenews.com/?utm_source=SOCIAL U.S. residents! There's chat about selling players properly, dreaming of Poch and Kane, fan fiction phase coping mechanisms and, inevitably, things descend into absolute filth. Big John brings the therapy, James brings the chaos and Flav is still arguing with Aston Villa fans. Classic Fighting Cock energy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Darragh believes Conor Gallagher's move to Spurs is exactly what Thomas Frank's side need, while Aston Villa fan Sam joins us to analyse Donyell Malen's move from Aston Villa to Roma. And finally, we're joined by Chelsea fan Henry to discuss whether there are reasons to be optimistic under Liam Rosenior.Watch us live, Monday to Friday, 10am until Midday on Sky Sports News or listen to the podcast as soon as we come off air. Today’s Topics: 1) Gospel – Matthew 7:21, 24-27 – Jesus said to his disciples: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven. “Everyone who listens to these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of Mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.” Memorial of Saint John of Damascus, Priest and Doctor of the Church Saint John, pray for us!
