It's Casual Friday on The Majority Report On today's program: Elon Musk is set to become the world's first billionaire as Space X launches its initial public offer today. A More Perfect Union explains how this sketchy IPO could destroy many people's 401(K) accounts. Heather 'Digby' Parton, columnist at Salon and publisher of the Hullabaloo blog, joins to recap the week's news. Topics include the war in Iran, midterm elections and more. In the Fun Half: CNN airs a compilation showing the 39 times that Donald Trump claimed that we a deal with Iran is imminent. Trillionaires Trump is now claiming that Strait of Hormuz has been open the whole time, but we just didn't know it because it was a secret. Shhhhh don't tell the Ayatollah. Department of Energy secretary Chris Wright admits under oath that he lied when he tweeted that the U.S. had successfully escorted an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz back in March. That kind of conflicts with Trump's claim that the strait has been open. Elissa Slotkin issues a press release stating that she believes that Michael Martin, a Trump pick for a U.S. district court, would be different from the president's other picks in that he will admit that Biden won the election in 2020 and that January 6 was an attack on the Capitol. Unfortunately for Slotkin, Martin answered those questions in the exact same fashion as all of Trump's other sycophantic nominees. Marco Rubio cites three examples of what make America so unique; our constitution, the moon landing and the UFC. We take a trip back to 2018 to watch Susan Collins on CNN promising that Bret Kavanaugh would not overturn Roe v Wade. All that and more. Roughly 7 million barrels of daily oil and fuel shipments are flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, or about half of the volumes stranded at the start of the Iran war, says US Energy Secretary Chris Wright. Speaking during the Bloomberg Energy Executive Briefing in Houston on Friday morning, Wright says the US will fully reopen the waterway with or without Iran’s assistance. At the start of the war in late February, about 20 million barrels of daily shipments were stranded as the strait was effectively shut. Several million barrels were diverted to alternative ports outside the Persian Gulf, leaving about 14 million trapped, Wright says.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Rep. Robert Garcia talks with Jen Psaki about what the report's revelations mean for the ongoing congressional investigation. In addition to bizarrely declaring his love for inflation, Donald Trump also announced that the U.S. is taking Iranian oil. Rep. Emilia Sykes took advantage of the fact that Trump's energy secretary, Chris Wright, was testifying before the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and pressed Wright to address Trump's statements, leaving the secretary at a loss.  Democratic candidate for Senate from Maine, Graham Platner talks with Jen Psaki about leaving the past behind and the road ahead to the general election. Don't miss this critical breakdown — Candace Owens is in Russia speaking at Putin's economic forum, and many are calling her a "useful idiot" for Kremlin propaganda. Is this a principled stand or something far more dangerous for conservative values? Watch until the end for the full picture. In this video, we dive deep into Candace Owens' controversial trip to Russia. While she's praising Moscow's "clean, beautiful, and family-friendly" streets and Christian heritage on X, experts warn that Vladimir Putin is expertly manipulating high-profile conservative voices like hers to sow division in America. From panels alongside sanctioned Russian officials to rubbing shoulders with figures like Aleksandr Dugin, this raises serious red flags for patriots who value truth over foreign influence. We also cover: Trump on nuclear dust in Iran. American coal is coming back? Tucker Carlson for president? Scott Bessent vs. the world. A.J. Dybantsa corrects Gilbert Arenas on Utah. What do YOU think? Is Candace Owens standing for truth or playing right into Putin's hands? Drop your thoughts in the comments — especially if you're a conservative concerned about foreign meddling, America First priorities, or manipulation from ANY side. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week on Face the Nation, global energy markets remain tied in knots by the conflict with Iran as ships in the Strait of Hormuz remain at a standstill. As the administration awaits a response to the latest U.S. offer to end the war with Iran, President Trump attended a golf tournament at his golf club in Virginia Saturday, and last week settled on a new label for the military conflict, which has persisted despite a previous declaration that the war had been "terminated". With critical energy trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz still near-frozen, gas prices continue their march toward higher, we ask Energy Secretary Chris Wright what the plan is going forward. We also hear from Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly, and we have a preview of an interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then, Democrats are dealt a stinging defeat in the latest round of redistricting whiplash. We ask the vice chairman of the House Democratic caucus, California Congressman Ted Lieu, whether his party can still retake the chamber in November's elections. Plus, passengers from the Hantavirus-infected cruise ship have disembarked off the coast of Africa this morning. We get the latest from former FDA Commissioner Doctor Scott Gottlieb.

We need federal intervention today. Not Tomorrow - Today. This is a challenge for our great Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, and our Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent. This is a problem of Venezuelan and Iranian proportions. In fact, California is such a national security crisis that I called out two days ago on the podcast "This California Crisis is just as big as the Iranian conflict," and Tim Stewart of the U.S. Oil and Gas Association said, "Stu, you are right", and today Mike also confirmed, it could bring the entire United States Republic down.1. California's Energy Crisis The transcript centers on an impending crisis involving the potential shutdown of major oil refineries in California, which could severely disrupt the state's energy and fuel supply.2. National Security & Military Implications The discussion emphasizes how refinery closures would threaten national security and military readiness, with consequences extending beyond California to the entire western United States.3. Geopolitical & Foreign Influence Concerns The transcript raises allegations about Chinese influence on California's energy policies and questions about transparency and potential corruption in decision-making.5. Federal Intervention & Emergency Measures Speakers call for urgent federal action, including potential invocation of the Defense Production Act, to address the crisis.6. Correspondence from the White House only seems to be making it worse, with oil prices heading in every which direction after a false claim from US Energy Minister Wright on the movement of an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz. The critical passway has been effectively closed by the Iranian regime.  Host Maria Kestane speaks to John Kirton, political science professor and Director of the G7 Research Group for the University of Toronto. President Donald Trump has intensified the U.S. campaign against Iran, demanding unconditional surrender from the regime and warning that any new supreme leader will not last without American approval. The ongoing conflict has driven global oil prices surging past $100 per barrel for the first time in years, disrupting supplies through the Strait of Hormuz and causing sharp rises in U.S. gas prices, which Trump dismissed as a short-term and small price to pay for eliminating Iran's nuclear threat. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, in his recent "60 Minutes" interview, defended the strategy, stating the U.S. is "on track" and "willing to go as far as we need to," including reserving the right to deploy boots on the ground if necessary, while insisting that Iran will ultimately have no choice but to surrender. He emphasized that the military is diminishing Iran's naval capabilities and confronting any external aid, such as reported Russian intelligence-sharing, strongly. Hegseth concluded by framing the operation as putting America First through decisive action to bring the enemy to its knees. WE ALSO COVER: It's official: a new ayatollah in Iran. Four days after an ICE agent shot and killed a protester in Minneapolis, the struggle to own the narrative of what exactly happened continues, and scrutiny over the use of force by ICE as part of the Trump administration's deportation process intensifies. We talk with Minneapolis-area Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar on the latest in her home state. Then, as the deadly protests in Iran spread, are the regime's days numbered? And what's the Trump administration's red line when it comes to taking more action against Iran? Virginia Democratic Senator Tim Kaine joins us with his assessment on what's next in the region and his effort to reign in presidential war powers. Finally, the administration tries to work with what's left of Maduro's government, even as they continue to support their now imprisoned former leader as President Trump makes plans to take advantage of Venezuela's oil and mineral rich land. We ask Energy Secretary Chris Wright about where oil talks stand. Plus, Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar joins us to discuss the Venezuelan opposition's path forward and the reaction in her South Florida district. The new year has only just begun, and already we have seen an event with massive significance for the world of energy. The US operation to remove Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro opens a new era for a country that holds – according to some definitions – the world's largest oil reserves. So far there has been little impact on oil markets. But what are the implications going to be for energy in the months and years to come? To discuss how this volatile situation might evolve, host Ed Crooks is joined by regular guest Amy Myers Jaffe, Director of NYU's Energy, Climate Justice and Sustainability Lab, and an expert on oil earlier in her career. History never repeats itself, the saying goes, but sometimes it rhymes. Amy draws a parallel between Venezuela today, and Iraq after the US-led invasion and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003. There are some similarities in the position of the two oil-rich countries, which were both dragged down by mismanagement and sanctions. But Amy argues that Venezuela's oil system is in far worse shape, with looted equipment, chronic power and fuel shortages, and damage that may not be reversible.Melissa Lott, another Energy Gang regular, also joins the show, and raises the question of what regime change in Venezuela might mean for the energy transition. Melissa is a partner at Microsoft, but appearing on the show in her usual role as an independent commentator and energy expert. Then it's on to the other places, people and technologies that are likely to make a big impact on energy this year. Ed is watching the Gulf Coast buildout of new liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants. It is a boom so big that Wood Mackenzie expects US LNG exports to roughly double from 2023 levels by around 2030, with more growth beyond. The gang assesses the likely consequences of surging LNG supplies: downward pressure on global gas prices, and potential financial strain for exporters. There is also the possibility that a peace deal in Ukraine could make the oversupply even worse, by allowing more Russian gas to flow west into European markets. Next up, it's people to watch in 2026. Melissa names the US energy secretary Chris Wright, and Ed picks new FERC chairman Laura Swett. As the US power grid, and its energy system more generally, face mounting challenges because of the growth in data centers needed for AI, effective policy and regulation will be critical. Amy chooses China's President Xi Jinping: the country's next five-year plan could reshape the global competition for energy dominance. On technologies to watch, battery storage is a hot topic. Melissa and Ed discuss the supply chains needed to meet growing demand, and innovative products such as Form Energy's iron-air batteries, which are being deployed in a first-ever commercial project that will be fully operational this year. Amy's choice is humanoid robots. They're expensive and still imperfect, but are they going to rule the future? They are already being trialled for repetitive factory tasks. Amy says her Roomba can't cope with a spilt bowl of cereal. But will new flexible AI-guided robots be able to do the job properly?Follow the show so you don't miss an episode this year – it's going to be a busy one.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

A toxic white female representative from Washington state exemplifies the lunacy and triggered do-goodery of the progressive left... which is steadily destroying the democrat party. New polling suggests taking down Maduro is another 90/10 issue, with democrats again on the losing side. Energy secretary Chris Wright explains Trump's plans for Venezuela's oil, using it as leverage to ensure the country's new government falls in line with America.
